In today's loud AF online marketplace, "content that converts" isn't good enough. Your clients don't want to be talked at, put down, or sold to. They want to feel heard. A LOT of marketing and business events suck. This is not a dig on folks who put these together. I know it takes a lot of work to produce an event. But there's very little innovation. If you've ever been to one of these events, you know exactly what I'm talking about. At best, the content is stuff you've heard before that at least confirms what you already know/believe. And at worst, it's dry, valueless, and yawn-inducing. You spend 50% of your time networking (the true value of these things), 48% scrolling on your phone, and 2% actually getting a real takeaway. Well, I'm here to say that Justin Moore and his team just knocked me on my a$$ with Sponsor Games, an event that completely surpassed all my expectations. And you know I'm not one to blow smoke. It was actually that good. If you don't know Justin, he runs Creator Wizard, offering sponsorship education and coaching for creators who want to make fat stacks through sponsorships. (Let's not even talk about how my little DnD nerd a$$ is obsessed with his branding.) He's been a full-time creator since 2014, and he used to run an influencer marketing agency. And over the years, he's generated over $5M in brand partnerships. In other words, he really knows his sh!t. And while I have followed Justin for a couple years, I haven't really taken the time to absorb his content. I was drawn to his kind, fun personality. He's just a guy that you want to win, whatever he's doing. You feel good about rooting for him. My business BFF, Sara Loretta, helped him produce this event, so naturally, I wanted to go to support them both... even though I didn't know much about sponsorships. I could not have been more surprised and delighted by an event. There were no boring presentations with generic content you can find with a quick Google search. It was Justin taking you step-by-step through his process for securing sponsorships with interactive games where you put that knowledge to work. *In my best Stefon from SNL Weekend Update voice* It's got everything—Team challenges, heated Kahoot! games, branded lattes, Sponsor Shark Tank, tacos, a Wizard Flat Stanley, and plastic guns that shoot money with Justin's face on it. And the best part was hanging out with my team. I can feel your eyes rolling from here, but hear me out. They put us into teams that Coach Bianca carefully curated based on our personalities. Shout out to Red Team—Doc Williams, Bagas Kara, Espree Devora 🎙️, and Kristen Kara. I had the absolute best time getting to know and learning from y'all. It really took the networking experience to a whole new level. For one of the challenges, we made a sensual ASMR video for a Swingline stapler that brought Justin to his knees—an unforgettable experience. And now I'm inspired AF to start creating content regularly again. If sponsorship is on your radar, get on the waitlist for next year (or check out Justin's mastermind.)
A couple of weeks ago, I got a fancy invitation in the mail. I don’t know anyone who is getting married, and let’s just say my friends are not in a tax bracket where formal invitations to anything other than a wedding make sense. I open it up, hoping I’ve got some long-lost uncle who has died and left me his millions, inviting me to a mysterious reading of his will in an abandoned castle. Instead, I see an invitation for a free cushy vacation at a resort… …with a required 2-hour timeshare presentation. As a kid who spent her earliest years living in a trailer park in the part of LA where the Nightstalker was jabbing people in the mid-80s and then later chose English as a major and a creative career, I never expected to be invited to a timeshare presentation with an income requirement. I have only my new job to thank for this delicious honor. Yes, in true SJ fashion, this is how I’m announcing my role as Lifecycle Marketing Manager at Boomtown Growth. I’ve been working with Boomtown since July 2024 as a contractor, so when they asked me to join them full-time in March, the answer was an enthusiastic HELL YEAH. I’m excited to own content marketing strategy for our clients across the customer lifecycle—from discovery to retention. And I love working with Darrell Vesterfelt, Brandon Bogdalek, and the team they’ve put together. But what does this mean for my content and/or business, you ask? If you like my content, you’re in luck because it’s about to get 1,000x better and more plentiful. Now that I’m not hawking my wares 24/7, I actually have time, space, and energy to write. The best place to keep up with my content is through my email list, where my long-winded a$$ tends to shine. If you want to pay me to write content for you, I’m being a lot more selective about who I work with and what projects I take on with my limited time. You can always pitch me your project, and if I’m obsessed with it (or you’re paying me enough to be obsessed), we'll make it happen. Overall, I’m shifting my business to focus on educating small business owners on how to do more with less and make more $$$ with their marketing. The best way to work with me if you want my support in getting better at this marketing stuff yourself is to join R1ch B1tch Copy Club. You’ll get my feedback on your strategy and copy every month through office hours sessions. And you get access to all my templates and trainings, and any I make in the future. I've got a really fun AI series lined up for you next week. Prepared to be sick of me. ✌
