Hi, I’m Tom Hinkle. I would like to tell you about one or two proficiencies that have carried with me in my career, but that would be seriously misleading. You see, I have many skills and attributes, and I also have many interests. If you are looking for someone who has only worked with the application of recurrent neural networks to predict stock prices and volatility, then sadly, I’m not your guy. What I can tell you is that I have a logical mind and I love to solve puzzles. Along with that, I have a thorough understanding of the bigger picture and how the component pieces each play their part in the success of the company. I am not limited to one particular set of problems or one business function, or even any one toolset. As a matter of fact, many times I seek out gaps that could be responsible for deficiencies in business processes, or the company’s ability to grow. I will use whatever tool is at my disposal to solve a business problem. With a career that spans over 20 years, I have proven my ability to learn, pivot and shift time after time. Now it’s time to tell you about my superpower. I am a people person. In my personal and professional life, I build strong relationships with friends and coworkers. This has led to many successful cross-functional projects where I had no authority over people that I worked with, but I was still able to get everyone to give their all. And one of the best parts is, I’m able to do all that without being a jerk. Treat people with respect and value them, and they will go the extra five miles for you. The other side of the communications coin is my uncanny ability to communicate complicated technical concepts to a non-technical audience and vice versa. That has made my efforts to train and mentor people over the years really successful and enjoyable!
