Finished eating. Put chopsticks in leather jacket pocket. Didn't tip. Left.

The bubble is real. The infrastructure is getting built. Both things are true.

Who’s building AI software for the bubble crash?

Following my post about AI infrastructure buildout – what a time to be building AI that helps companies survive the crash.

White House may not release October jobs and inflation data. Markets are getting nervous.

The AI products that survive the next 18 months won’t be productivity tools. They’ll be decision-making tools. Strategy under uncertainty. Risk assessment when the playbook breaks.

Everyone says the AI bubble will pop. They're missing the point. Bubbles exist to build infrastructure.

McKinsey & Company surveyed 1,993 companies. 88% are using AI. Only 33% are scaling it. The common take: "Most companies are wasting time in pilot purgatory."

Wrong.

The dot-com bubble wasn't waste -- it built the fiber networks that enabled cloud computing. The crypto bubble boosted cryptography and started GPU infrastructure buildout. The AI bubble is building something more valuable: organizational capability.

Look at what's actually happening in that 88%:
- Companies are hiring data engineers and ML specialists at scale. 
- Larger orgs are allocating 20%+ of digital budgets to AI. 
- Teams are learning to redesign workflows -- 47% of high performers are fundamentally restructuring how work gets done. 
- Organizations are building data infrastructure, governance frameworks and evaluation processes.

This isn't failure. This is capital markets doing their job -- funding infrastructure before anyone knows exactly how to monetize it.

The 6% of companies aren't just building infrastructure. They're building AND shipping simultaneously. They're redesigning workflows while others are forming committees. They're scaling agents while others are debating.

PitchBook just dropped 5 charts on the AI bubble debate. The numbers:
45% of fund managers say AI bubble is the biggest tail risk to markets. Up 12 points from last month.

For the first time since 2005, majority of investors say companies are overinvesting in capex.

$5 trillion required for AI infrastructure buildout. $1.4 trillion funding gap.

Hyperscaler CapEx tripled since end of 2023.

Late-stage AI valuations back to 2021 ZIRP-era levels.

Any fool makes money in a growing market. The real test is what you build for the falling one.

When the correction hits, CFOs will ask one question: "What's the ROI?"

Products that survive: 
→ Cost reduction (not growth acceleration) 
→ Decision-making under uncertainty 
→ Proving unit economics in 90 days 
→ Doing more with less compute

Products that don't: 
→ AI wrappers with no moat (except for AI GFs) 
→ "We'll figure out monetization later" 
→ Anything that needs 18 months to show value
