AI is transforming healthcare, saving lives, and uncovering unseen patterns. But if it’s built on 𝗯𝗶𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮, it could do more harm than good.

AI can already:

👉🏽 Scan x-rays faster than doctors.
👉🏽 Spot patterns in health data we’d never see on our own.
👉🏽 Predict illness before it shows up.

That’s incredible!

But AI doesn’t come into the world blank.
It comes already trained.

✅ On data.
✅ On people.
✅ On both the voices it includes, and the ones it leaves out.

A recent Nature article warns that if that data is biased, the outcomes will be biased.
Which means healthcare can become less fair, not more.

💡 Representation matters.

What PR & Comms Leaders Can Learn from Accenture’s “Reinvention”

Accenture’s latest earnings show a company in transition. Revenues were flat in local currency. Headcount is being reshaped. And yet, the company is doubling down on what it calls “total enterprise reinvention,” powered by three pillars:

1️⃣ 𝗔𝗜 + 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵-𝗘𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀
Accenture isn’t treating AI as a bolt-on. It’s embedding AI into every client engagement.

👉🏾 Lesson for comms leaders: Stop thinking of AI as a side experiment. Your team needs to weave AI into daily workflows — not just for speed, but for better analysis, sharper insights, and higher-value storytelling.

2️⃣ 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱 + 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲
Accenture is pushing clients to build strong digital foundations so they can scale, adapt, and generate recurring value.

👉🏾 Lesson for comms leaders: Don’t build your AI strategy on sand. Policies, governance, and infrastructure matter. Without a clear framework, experimentation turns into chaos, and trust erodes fast.

3️⃣ 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 + 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Accenture is investing $1B into reskilling its workforce in AI and cloud. At the same time, it’s trimming legacy roles. That’s a difficult but necessary balance.

👉🏾 Lesson for comms leaders: Upskilling isn’t optional. As Accenture shows, you can’t just “exit people” without also “reinventing skills.” If your team isn’t AI literate, it risks being left behind.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆:
Accenture is reinventing itself while reinventing clients. PR and comms leaders must do the same.

💡 AI isn’t a side project — it’s a core capability.
💡 Governance isn’t a nice-to-have — it’s the foundation.
💡 Skills aren’t static — they’re the real differentiator.

The companies and comms teams that thrive won’t be the ones experimenting the longest. They’ll be the ones that reinvent with purpose.

California just regulated AI, and It’s a wake-up call for every leader.

California just became the first U.S. state to officially regulate artificial intelligence.

For the first time, companies will be required to disclose when and how they use AI, document the data behind their models, and submit high-risk systems to independent audits.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗮… 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁.

Like the state’s privacy laws before it, this will likely become the playbook for the rest of the country.

Here are a few take-aways:

1️⃣ Transparency isn’t optional anymore. Consumers will have the right to know when they’re interacting with AI — from chatbots to hiring platforms.

2️⃣ Reputation and compliance now intersect. How your organization communicates its AI use will matter just as much as how it implements the technology.

3️⃣ Governance is the new differentiator. The companies that embrace oversight early will build the trust others will scramble to earn later.

This won't end AI innovation, it could accelerate the start of AI maturity.

The next wave of leadership will come from those who treat responsible AI as brand infrastructure, not bureaucracy.

McKinsey just reviewed 50 AI agents. The verdict? They’re useful — but not always the right tool.

And that’s the point I see leaders miss again and again.

💡 Sometimes an automation is best. It’s reliable, repeatable, and efficient.

💡 Sometimes an LLM is enough. To draft, analyze, or summarize.

💡 Sometimes an agent is required. For coordinating across tools and steps.

The real skill? 👉🏾 Discernment.

Knowing when to use which solution.
And knowing how much human oversight each one demands.

Because here’s the truth:

🚫 Agents aren’t autopilot.
🚫 LLMs aren’t autopilot.
🚫 Automations aren’t autopilot.

They’re all Copilot. 

Powerful, scalable, but only when guided.

The leaders who thrive won’t chase the sexiest headline.

They’ll master the judgment to choose the right tool, apply the right guardrails, and keep humans in the loop where it matters most.

That’s not hype. That’s leadership.

Stop hiding behind your slides

A few months ago, a colleague and I were planning a joint talk on AI.
Within minutes, I made the mistake many of us make, “We should figure out which slides to create.”

They stopped me.
“Let’s first figure out what we want to say, and how we want the audience to feel. Then we can decide what the slides should look like. Or if we even need slides at all.”

D'oh! 🤦🏽♂️ 
They were right. And I know better.

𝗧𝗼𝗼 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮, 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲.

🚫 We hide behind slides.
🚫 We use them as a crutch.
🚫 We mistake movement through slides for movement in the conversation.

Think about how many meetings you’ve attended where someone spent 55 minutes going through slides and left five minutes for questions.
That’s not a presentation, that’s running out the clock. 

𝗦𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝗶𝘁.
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘁.

If the goal is connection, clarity, or trust, sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is close the laptop, look people in the eye, and start a real conversation.

Because people don’t remember your slides.
They remember how you made them feel.

AI is an amazing tool. But it’s far from infallible.

A new Reuters piece highlights just how costly misuse can be.

Judges across the U.S. are stepping up penalties for 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗜-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝘀. Some are moving beyond fines, warning of suspensions or even disbarment.

Why? Because when humans step out of the loop, AI isn’t just inefficient. It’s dangerous.

These incidents are a vivid reminder of something I say often:

𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲.

Fail to incorporate human oversight at key moments, and you risk outcomes far worse.

The legal field may feel far from PR and communications, but the lesson is the same.
𝗔𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁.

💡 The leaders who thrive will be the ones who treat AI as a co-pilot: powerful, fast, and game-changing, but always needing human judgment in the cockpit.

Last week, Harvard Medical School licensed its consumer health content to Microsoft for use in Copilot.

It might sound like a simple content partnership.
But it’s something much larger.

This deal hints at how the next generation of AI systems will be built and trusted.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀

For years, AI progress has been measured by scale: bigger models, more data, faster processing.

But this move points to a new metric of value. Credibility.

In healthcare, finance, and law, the challenge isn’t just generating answers. It’s generating answers people can trust.

By licensing content from a verified source, Microsoft isn’t just expanding Copilot’s knowledge base. It’s anchoring its model to vetted expertise.

That move changes how trust is built AND monetized.

What to watch

✅ Will Harvard’s content be retrieved transparently (“This answer comes from Harvard Health Publishing”) or quietly absorbed into the model?
✅ How will Microsoft handle updates, accuracy, and accountability as medical guidance evolves?
✅ And if this approach succeeds, will other institutions like Mayo or Johns Hopkins begin licensing their expertise too?

This has the potential to go from just a story about medicine to a glimpse into the future of domain-specific AI.

We’re witnessing AI’s big step into entertainment.
But do audiences want a world without humans?
I’ve got a few thoughts (contrarian view alert).

This week, Tilly Norwood, the first fully AI-generated “actor", made headlines.
And OpenAI’s Sora 2 model, with its new Cameo feature, is showing how far synthetic video has come.

It’s a milestone worth noting.
But also one worth keeping in perspective.

Today’s tools can generate striking visuals, yet they still struggle with the fundamentals of realism, like: 
🚫 continuity
🚫 anatomy
🚫 movement
🚫 and emotion.

Scenes that look polished in a two-second clip tend to fall apart over thirty seconds of narrative.

Directorial control is another challenge.
Cinematography is about intent. Where to focus, how to light, what emotion to reveal.

And those decisions aren’t easily automated.

Yes, these tools will continue to improve, but every technology has it limiatations. It's a stretch to believe that AI will. be the first technology without them. 

In fact, it's not unreasonable to assume that many of the current limitations will continue to require human intervention. 

And even if the technology closes that gap, there’s a deeper question: 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲?

To date, there’s little evidence that viewers consistently want to watch stories without 𝘢𝘯𝘺 human performers.
CGI succeeds when it enhances human storytelling, not replaces it.

We have accepted the false premise that for AI's promise to be fulfilled, it must replace humans. The more likely premise casts AI as a trusted co-pilot. 

AI will continue to transform production, making it faster, more flexible, and more accessible.

But for now, its most realistic role may be to amplify human creativity, not to replace it.

Because we don’t just consume stories for how real they look.
𝗪𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹.

If your AI strategy begins with prompts and ends with productivity, you’re missing the point.

We’ve been told the future belongs to teams who master AI, who can prompt faster, automate more, and scale content endlessly.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁?

Technology always changes faster than humans can adapt.
Instead of asking how to catch up to AI, we should be focusing on how to stay ahead by focusing on what machines can’t do.

𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲.

The future of communications will reward those who:
✅ Think critically about what deserves automation and what demands human care
✅ Build trust in a world flooded with synthetic content
✅ Lead with empathy, creativity, and judgment, not just output

When adopted properly, AI doesn’t replace human value. It highlights it.

We've Been Here Before: The Electricity, Internet, and AI Bubbles

Every tech revolution starts with a bubble. 

Because before the infrastructure matures, imagination runs wild.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝟭𝟴𝟴𝟬𝘀

When electricity arrived in the late 1800s, investors poured money into hundreds of “light companies.”
Everyone wanted in on the next great power source.

But electricity wasn’t yet practical.
Cities weren’t wired. 
Standards didn’t exist. 
Many companies collapsed before anyone even flipped a switch.

The electricity bubble burst, but from its ashes came the modern power grid that fueled the 20th century.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟬𝘀

A century later, it happened again.
The internet bubble promised overnight transformation.
Capital flooded startups with catchy names (everyone was a dotcom) and no revenue.
When it crashed, people called it a failure.

But who survived?
Amazon. Google. eBay.
The companies that emerged after the hype created the foundation of our digital economy.

𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗔𝗜’𝘀 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻.

We’re in the speculative stage where the hype exceeds the plumbing.
Some tools will fade. 
Some valuations will vanish.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄—𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀, 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆—𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.

The bubbles weren’t proof that electricity or the internet failed.
They were proof that they mattered.

AI is no different.
We’ve been here before.

💡 The question isn’t whether the bubble will burst. It’s who’s building what will remain when it does.
