My journey as an entrepreneur saw me start a health business as a Nutritional Therapist and Personal Trainer with enthusiasm, optimism, and a deep desire to help people.  

Over time, enthusiasm and optimism were replaced by imposter syndrome, fear, disappointment, shame and disillusionment.  No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't make it work because I didn't believe in myself or my abilities .  

Even when my clients gave me amazing feedback, I didn't believe them. Instead I listened to the voice in my head that said I was no good, a failure, and would never achieve anything.  

I have real compassion for who I was back then, if I could, I'd go back and give me a massive hug and tell me everything will be ok.  

I can't travel back in time, but I can help other women develop confidence and self belief, and I teach them step-by-step proven methods to create, market, and sell their offers in a way that feels easy and enjoyable.  

Your first few clients can be the hardest to find as you’re not so confident and you don’t know what to do to get results yet.  

I’ve tried and failed over and over again, and now I share what I've learnt that actually works.

You don't have to experience life's big challenges to lose your identity.

It's the daily living that chips away at it:

⛏️ Keeping the peace (aka not speaking your mind)
⛏️ Looking after everyone else (putting your own needs last)
⛏️ Being a 'good girl' and doing what you 'should' (as your dreams crumble to dust)

Each of these behaviours takes you further away from who you really are.
And over the years and decades you lose sight of your real self, your own dreams, and your incredible potential.

- You're too scared to ask for what you want and protect your boundaries

3) Notice what you feel in your body. 

That's it.
Pause, ask, notice.

You don't have to change anything right now.
That will come in time.

But getting back to who you are, or reinventing yourself to who you want to be,
starts with noticing when you ignore your needs, your boundaries, your dreams.

Who even am I, and what the hell do I do next?

Your relationship has ended, your kids have left home, and you’ve begun to realise you’ve spent the last decades looking after everyone except you.

When you've been though loss, betrayal, and grief, a lot of the advice about self care isn't going to cut it.

❌ You've poured your love and energy into raising your kids and then they leave home

❌ You've invested decades in a relationship to find yourself single in a world of dating apps and 🍆 pics

❌ You've worked your arse off to build a career that now leaves you flat and drained 

Lighting scented candles and taking a spa-day is surface-level.
You deserve more.

Caring for yourself isn't about doing stuff to feel nice for a bit.
You need safety, rest, and, to remember that healing isn't linear.  
It's a gradual, sometimes messy, process with you at the core.

Here are 4 things I've learnt really matter through rebuilding myself:

1.  Let yourself feel 😳
Grief, anger, fear, rage, disappointment, confusion and even numbness can all come up, and can be overwhelming. 
 
Instead of trying to avoid them through work, alcohol, Netflix, shopping, drugs, scrolling, and any of the other tactics we use, letting these feelings come and move through you in a safe way is crucial. 

You might feel as if you're coming apart, but your system needs to process what's happened.  

2. Create emotional safety 🦺
Support your nervous system to come back to feelings of safety by setting boundaries - real or imaginary - and rituals.  Here's where you can use your candles, massages, and bubble baths if they help, but don't let these be your only tools.  

3. Rest, rest, rest 🛌
Pushing through is simply not an option.  Sleep and rest help reset your nervous system, calm stress-related inflammation, support your immune system, and reduce anxiety, irritability, and overwhelm.   

The mental energy we expend processing trauma and coping with triggers is HUGE.  Rest is not passive; it is an active, essential component of healing.

4. Connection 🤝
You might feel like hibernating, and being alone is helpful for sure, but it's easy to slide into isolation - because it feels safer.  People can't hurt you if you don't spend time with anyone, right?  

Being with the people you trust, who don't judge, who don't try to fix you or cheer you up, means your body produces more oxytocin - the love hormone - lowering stress hormones and regulating your nervous system.   It feels so good.

This still blows my mind.

I have lots of conversations with women in the middle of life’s biggest blow ups - kids leaving home, relationships ending, losing their parents...

We chat about the challenges, the grief, the disappointment and at some point I ask them: 

Who do you want to be now?
What do you want for this next stage of your life?
What do you WANT? 

What's crazy is that for so many women, that last question sounds about as familiar as asking, “Where did I put my Nobel Prize?”

And I can see it on their faces.

A blank look. 
As if I'd spoken an alien language.
As if the question didn't compute.

It's been so long since anyone asked them, it takes a beat or two to understand.

And then I see it again.  A different look.
I watch the realisation hit them -  they literally have no idea.  What they want.  Who they want to be.  What kind of life they want for their 50s, 60s and beyond. 

Can we just pause and marvel at how absolutely batshit crazy it is that for decades, women pour their energy, love, and genius into other people’s lives & work so intensely… that we literally forget we’re allowed to want stuff of our own?

How did we end up as a bit-part in our own movies?

I've come to believe that if dedicating 30+ years to everyone EXCEPT OURSELVES isn’t peak madness, I don’t know what is.

I have a lot of compassion for these women. 
Because this realisation isn’t some spiritual enlightenment moment - sometimes it feels like a punch to the soul. 
It can be devastating.  Disturbing.  It's BIG.

The double-whammy of realising that:
a) you've forgotten about yourself, and
b) nobody else cared enough to ask

can trigger an intense nervous system response that might have you in complete denial there's any issue (flight), raging and ready to remove someone's testicles (fight), or feeling depressed and overwhelmed with the enormity of it all (freeze). 

So my friend, if you’re sitting there thinking, “Actually, I have NO idea what I want, and that’s kind of terrifying”…  this is for you 💛

Navigate change and reinvent yourself after 50. Forget the rules - let’s have some fun 🔥🙌

The last time I tried, I failed.  This time I made it. 

The difference?  Safety.

When I tried rock climbing in Thailand over 20 years ago, I got a few feet off the ground - and started crying.
I was terrified.
I had to come down.
I thought it was impossible.

Last weekend I tried again.  3 routes - easy, medium and OMG-that's-scary hard.
I made all 3.

Fitness?  I'm probably about the same now as I was then.
Strength?  I'm a menopausal woman in my 50s, reckon I had more back then.

So why did I make it this time and not before?  

It's down to safety. 
Feeling grounded - even when 30 meters off the ground

In Thailand, it was basically harness on, belay up, and off you go.
No instruction, no safety briefing, no confidence

Last week I had an instructor who told me exactly what to do next and how to do it
And a group of supportive women cheering me on

That safety meant I could overcome my nerves - the heart in my mouth, the shaky legs, the sweaty palms.
That safety got me to the top.

And the whole experience reminded me of how women feel when they think about changing things in their life.  

Maybe they want to leave a relationship, change their career, start a business, or just do something different in their daily routines. 

They imagine doing it alone, without support, and no guidance.
It feels dangerous, threatening, impossible.

So that's why when I work with women to help them rebuild a life they actually love to live, we start with safety.
Safety in the body, in the nervous system.

Because when you don't feel safe, everything feels like a threat.
Change feels too hard, too scary.

Results day 👩‍🎓👨‍🎓

Today is the day thousands of parents across the UK find out if their kid got their uni place.  I'm one of them.
There will be celebrations and commiserations.

It's a day full of high emotion. 
Excitement
Anxiety
Pain
Joy

We're super happy for our kids who get their place and we feel the heartbreak of those who don't.

Congratulations to everyone who got the results they wanted, and to those who didn't I want to say - it will be ok.  There is another way forward for you, even if it doesn't feel like that now.  

I know because I failed one of my A-levels, and I still went to uni and I still got a degree. 

For those who don't go at all?   Your life will be amazing and you'll achieve so much - this is just the beginning.

But when the excitement has all died down, what then?

When it hits you - my child is leaving home 😳

I know that part of our job as parents is to raise our kids, help them develop their independence, then 'send them out into the world' and all that.

But wow - it hurts as well.

18 years has gone by in a flash and suddenly you're in Ikea buying sheets and towels and toasters to send them off with.

It feels too soon.
Or maybe you're ready for it, but feel the loss just the same.

Be gentle with yourself.
Our children leaving is a huge milestone and it's ok to feel ALL the feels about it.

Happy, proud, excited, sad, panicky, fearful - all are valid responses and we can feel them all at the same time.  I know I do.

Over the next few days and weeks, pay attention to yourself.
Allow what comes, and don't try to minimise or push it down.

Don't think you 'shouldn't' be sad just because 'kids leaving home is how it's supposed to be' 
It's still a wrench, after all.

Yes maybe don't snot-cry all over your almost-adult telling them you can't live without them.
But allow yourself to feel
Notice what happens in your body

Ask yourself what you need right now.
Quiet, calm, comfort?  Find it, create it in your body.
Safety, security? Go where you feel it - physically and mentally.

If you're tense, can you shake it off, breathe it out?
When you're sad - hold yourself, hold someone else.
And when you're excited - let the energy flow, jump, dance, whoop it up...

It's a wonderful thing, to see our babies turn into grown humans, and whatever their results we're still proud of them.

Just don't forget yourself 💛

You think it's too late.

If you want change, start with your body.  Because your mind will always talk you out of it.

Here’s some truth you won't find in inspirational quotes: if you’re after REAL change - showing up as your truest self, rebuilding your life, starting a business, or just becoming anything different than who you’ve been programmed to be - it isn't just about having different thoughts.

It begins with your body.

No, seriously. Because your mind? It's trying to be your saviour (even though it might feel like your saboteur) who will talk you out of anything new the second it smells “danger” (aka, change).

But your mind isn’t out to sabotage you because you’re weak, or lazy, or “not ready.” It’s just doing its job.

When you even THINK about shaking up the status quo (leave that soul-sucking job, say what you actually want, uproot your life, question ANYTHING), your brain triggers the alarm bells.  It HATES change. 

And in as little as 1/15000th of a second the threat system gets activated.  Pretty fast. 

Faster then you can think, right? 💡

Your body goes straight into alert: heart pounding, muscles tight, ready to kick off or run up the stairs 2 at a time and hide under the duvet; brain full of static or running every 'what if' nightmare in existence.

This is the sympathetic nervous system kicking in - the fight or flight response. 

And here’s the point: in that ramped-up state, you can’t think straight.

It’s science though, not personal failing.
The parts of your brain needed for decision-making, rational thinking, and even speaking, are down-regulated or turned off.

You literally CAN'T think.  

And your clever mind will persuade you to avoid hard things, stay put, or get so angry and overwhelmed that you end up screaming into your pillow and ordering deliveroo 3 nights in a row… but nothing actually changes.

Why? Because anything unfamiliar - even your own dreams - feels dangerous to the mind.
It’ll do almost anything to drag you back to the safety of the familiar, even if the familiar isn’t working for you any more.

When you’re not regulated (safe, grounded, connected), the logical "change your thoughts/just think positive!” advice is less than helpful.

So here’s the deal.
You can’t out-think, out-mantra, or out-journal your way into change while your nervous system is on high alert.

You need to calm the body FIRST.
When your body feels safe, your mind starts to relax, get curious, and - OMG - actually allow you to imagine new solutions and directions.
Only then does the magic happen: feeling (for real) and thinking (clearly) about what you actually want.

So if you're feeling stuck, in business or life, and wondering what the hell is wrong with you that you can't do anything about it, listen.

You’re not broken. You’re just a human with an exquisitely overprotective brain.
Start with your body, then rebuild your life.
