My biggest takeaway today was Tina's recommendation to take the time to seek out mentors organically and not to try and force it. It works better if its a genuine relationship.

Not only do the athletes go through a gauntlet of on-field workouts, but they also interview with team execs.

Terrion Arnold nabbed five interceptions over 14 games as a starting cornerback for the Crimson Tide last season.

In April of 2015, David Brooks penned an opinion piece for the "New York Times" entitled, "The Moral Bucket List".

In it, he wrote: 

"It occurred to me that there were two sets of virtues, the résumé virtues and the eulogy virtues. The résumé virtues are the skills you bring to the marketplace. The eulogy virtues are the ones that are talked about at your funeral — whether you were kind, brave, honest or faithful. Were you capable of deep love?"

Deep love.

I suspect that "deep love" requires us to slow down...

“The wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine”

This quote rang especially true when I deposited this check from the Theranos settlement today. 

I've always been an early adopter. 

I got a Pebble smartwatch before the FitBit and the Apple watch came along. (Anyone else dismayed by the battery life of the Sense these days? SMH)

I started meditating way before apps like Headspace and Insight Timer introduced millions to the benefits of mindfulness. 

When a new idea seems viable, I'm right there ready to step into the new era. 

In this particular case, the prospect of a full blood panel from just a single drop of blood was too good to be true. 

I still remember going into the Walgreens on University Ave after seeing an article in Wired Magazine about this revolutionary new technology that was going to disrupt traditional blood testing forever.

No more uncomfortable vein searches and watching vial after vial of my blood travel up that line. 

That first puncture always hurts so bad no matter how much I'm prepared. Ouch! 🩸 

I really wanted to believe.

But when I went in, the story was that "most of our patients get a finger-prick" but I was going to get a venous draw per their current guidelines while the technology is being worked out.

The rest is all history and has played out in exacting detail across two documentaries (one dramatized) (HBO Max and Hulu). 

As founders sometimes we have such a strong belief in our product that we will go to great extremes to bring our visions to fruition. 

Sometimes our innovation outpaces the status quo and legislation has to follow the trends that new technologies are setting (Uber/Airbnb).

Sometimes the timing is just right and people open up to new ways of doing things (Remote Estate Planning signings thanks to COVID and RON). 

Either way I'm so grateful we have a solid product solving real problems for forward thinking attorneys and their clients who value efficiency and convenience. 

While raising capital is difficult for those of us outside the elite club of well-heeled insiders who pour billions into the likes of Theranos, Bolt, Juicero ,Quibi and FTX, we are blessed with the challenge of solving real problems with grit, tenacity and passion.

We have 99 problems but a fake product ain't one!

Stay grinding.  Justice always comes correct in the arc of big time.

What are your GBOWR (Guiness Book of World Records) entrants for:

1. Longest it took for a client to buy after expressing interest and 

2. The shortest transition from inquiry to booked sale?

For most trusted advisors this metric can vary wildly.

There are folks who take the longer side of 12 months to finally decide they're ready to delegate their signings to us and some of course will never get there.  

Our current "Fastest To Close" winner's circle includes Alexander Ripps who went from a Facebook group recommendation to a brief phonecall with Stephanie Rosso, PhD to a signed agrement and onboarding process plus submission of his first signing all completed in slightly under an hour.

When a product is aligned with a problem and the timing is right things can move extremely fast but this is rare and I'm slowly coming to terms that what is obvious to me and most of our clients has at its core a resistance to delegation which is a universal problem.

Which of these challenges do you identify with the most as a business owner?

Fear of Losing Control: 
Many leaders fear that delegating tasks means losing control over their outcomes. This can stem from a lack of trust in team members' abilities or the notion that only they can achieve the desired results to their standards.

Perceived Time Constraints: 
Some leaders believe it takes too long to explain tasks and delegate effectively. They might think it's quicker to do things themselves, not considering the long-term benefits of delegation.

Lack of Training: 
Both leaders and their teams may lack the necessary training for effective delegation. Leaders might not know how to delegate effectively, while team members might not be prepared to take on delegated tasks.

Difficulty in Letting Go: 
Tied closely to the fear of losing control, some leaders struggle with letting go of tasks because they're deeply invested in their work or worry about their relevance if they delegate too much.

Inadequate Resources: 
Sometimes, the barriers are practical, such as a lack of adequate resources or budget to finance outsourcing or understanding the value of reclaiming billable time.

Lack of Confidence or Trust: 
This can be due to past experiences, insufficient knowledge of team members' capabilities, or a general tendency to micromanage.

I'm definitely guilty of getting too involved sometimes but have learned to release and let go of what I cannot control (choosing really good people and doing my best to stay out of their way) and focusing on getting the 80% to 90% whenever possible. 

100% doesn't exist and even if you get it, the cost probably isn't justifiable. 

Even when it comes to children, "good enough parenting" probably beats droning or helicoptering over these stewards of the next generation.

Stop overthinking.

Decisions are generally reversible, inaction is not:

There's an old fable of the centipede and the rabbit that I love:

A centipede is walking along when a rabbit comes alongside it and asks, "Which one of your legs is the fastest?"

The centipede starts thinking about the question and quickly becomes paralyzed, unable to move.

The once subconscious action of walking becomes a conscious thought, leaving the centipede stuck in place.

A lot of us are the centipede in this story: Overthinking is holding us back from building the life we want.

When you think every decision has to be perfect, you become afraid to move.

The regret of action is better than the regret of inaction.
