I led content marketing for two global engagement programs, co-owning customer journey and overseeing content audit, content strategy and content creation for delivery across the marketing funnel.

Senior Product Marketing Manager

Built a global marketing campaign—How to Crush Your Sales Quota—with 50+ connected assets designed to entice enterprise VPs of sales down the funnel and into nurture. Managed agency of record, content strategy, creative, budget, interviews with industry thought leaders, and site dev. Wrote copy on all three campaign sites and pre-roll videos, including a women's crew video that generated over 1.2MM views and 800 shares on Facebook. Signed and managed Motofish Images to create original sport photography and video. Created a library of assets to help bring the new Dynamics brand story to life.

Senior Content Marketing Manager

Amazon Services

Built a content marketing framework to discover and produce small business stories at scale. Drove execution from prototype, to framework construction, to scaling and production of 25+ interviews in less than 3 months—for ~$3K a piece. Constructed a content matrix to meta-tag all interview content across 45 dimensions, enabling the production of up to 75 individual content pieces from one interview.   

Produced an Amazon Services brand anthem video, weaving all five products into one story, and created a to-customer campaign delivered via the home page of Amazon as well as through email and social. Resulted in 250MM+ impressions. 

Won the 2014 NA Seller Services Hackathon by creating an innovative new way to use mobile and social to add unique selection to the marketplace. Competed against 20+ teams from US and India in a Shark Tank-style pitch and live code demo.

Developed creative for national campaigns, events, and customer marketing initiatives. Orchestrated a successful new business pitch into Amazon.com and wrote the winning pitch deck for a $1 million Microsoft RFP.

Last year, I had a terrible realization. 

I'm 47 years old, and for decades I've been teaching everyone I meet that hares and rabbits are the same thing.

My dad's last name is Hare. 
My mom's maiden name is Weidhaas, which means field rabbit.
So a Hare married a rabbit, and they had a bunch of little Hares.

I've always known that hares and rabbits are not the same thing.

But because I was trying to make it easier for people to get my last name, I was teaching everyone from the pharmacist to the banker to the lady at the gym that a hare and a rabbit are the same thing. 

Here's the thing: a hare is not a rabbit!

Same family. Different species.

Hares are a whole lot cooler! And the world needs to know.
-Hares are longer and taller, and faster
-Hares change the colors of their coats with the seasons
-Hares box each other 

But because people always thought my last name was "Hair," I would always say the same thing. Then if they didn't get it, I would spell it out (how hard can it be?).

I would even get on Zoom calls and people would see my logo in the background and say, "Why is there a rabbit on a hoverboard?"

Do you not see my name on screen?

Then about a year or two ago, I realized I was part of the problem.

I had been reinforcing the narrative that hares and rabbits are the same thing by repeating this untruth over and over again, and I realized this had to stop! 

Sadly, I also realized I had started to believe they were the same thing, even though I knew it wasn't true.

That's the funny thing about narratives. 

When we repeat them over and over again we begin to believe them.

If we want to change our beliefs and change the outcomes, we have to go back to our narrative and rewrite it.

Then we have to share that narrative over and over again until it takes hold.

Now I'm probably never going to change what I tell people when they ask for my name, but silly as all this is, it was a good reminder of the power of stating and then repeating a narrative.

It has the power to change what others believe and the power to change what you believe.

P.S.  A few weeks back, I was on a call with Ryan Pannell and Kasey Jones 🏔 and Ryan called me out for having amazing, iconic hair.

We talked it through and he and Kasey did their darnedest to convince me that perhaps I needed to lean into my hair and make it the hallmark of my brand by changing my last name to "Hair."

Perhaps they are on to something. What do you think?

P.P.S. I'm getting this mess cut today as it has turned into a bit of a wild hare/wild hair.
