I visited @lifespan.clinic in Dubai, where I had my 'vital signs checkup,' and it was all powered by AI.

They scanned my face, and BAM, it read my vitals - heart rate, blood oxygen, and even blood pressure. All from a simple scan and with 95% accuracy. The power of AI in healthcare is absolutely mind-blowing!

I’m honored and happy to share that I’m starting a new position as a member of the Ministry of Health (Singapore) Health Regulatory Advisory Panel (MOH RAP)!  

This role is a profound opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of healthcare regulation. It focuses on embracing technological advancements like AI to address our healthcare system's critical challenges, especially in caring for the elderly. With an aging population of healthcare professionals, the need for innovative, sustainable solutions has never been more apparent.

Created as part of the “High-resolution untethered haptic gloves using electroosmotic pump arrays” research project, this wireless haptic glove prototype by Fluid Reality looks interesting. The video below does a great job explaining the bare bones of the glove as well as describing how the haptic technology inside it works.

In a nutshell, each haptic pixel is fluidically driven by an ultra-small embedded electroosmotic pump, allowing for a rich palette of haptic and environmental effects when pressed against the tip of each finger with a specific animation pattern. Some of the effects that can be simulated are different textures when touching objects, some resistance and skin deformation when grasping objects, electricity sparks, wind, mechanical vibrations, and water drops.

“These pumps are unlike any common pump. There are no moving parts, and the entire pump is only hundreds of microns thick. They operate on the principle of electroosmosis directly attracting charge within the fluid to cause it to flow”

“We built this prototype glove using off-the-shelf components like a Raspberry Pi. Fully integrated products have the opportunity to be even more compact and lightweight. Because it's thin, we used built-in optical hand tracking, and standard Unity integrations”

I've recently come across GyroGear which had a big blast at CES.Their product, the GyroGlove™, helps patients with Parkinson's disease regain control and fight tremor. You can see in the video how two ladies are having tea with the gloves on.

"By constantly spinning at thousands of RPMs, the gyroscope helps the GyroGlove constantly rebalance a wearer’s trembling hands, all in real-time. According to Ong’s company, GyroGear, the GyroGlove can help reduce hand tremors by up to 90%."

The down side? It costs almost 6000 USD.

It's incredible looking at all the humanoid robots that are currently under construction.

Here is their name, country of origin, height and weight.

What we can fairly conclude from this is that there will be humanoid robots on the market very soon.

Will they contribute to healthcare? For now, I doubt it.

Just think about the Moravec paradox and it will be hard to imagine robots taking the place of healthcare professionals for physical tasks.
