You’ve been knocked down, hit the ground, spun around.
 
If you live long enough, you’re bound to go through some kind of sh*t,
 
My God, I’ve been to h*ll and back more times than you can imagine.
 
Sometimes I trusted the wrong people,

Whether embroiled in a hostile takeover or caught up in a contentious acquisition,

Whether dealing with an enraged subcontractor on a construction site or being held in contempt in a courtroom,

The person who steadies the ship, stills the water, & diffuses the conflict

Is the one who comes out ahead.

THE ART OF NONREACTIVITY is one I practice & teach my clients.

Recently, there’s been a surge of intensity in many industries across the globe.

Regardless of the situation, it’s imperative to stay calm & focus on solving the problem.

In the dynamic world of business & leadership, the ability to remain non-reactive amidst chaos is a skill that can transform outcomes, build resilience, & establish you as a legendary leader. 

Here are my KEYS FOR STAYING GROUNDED DURING TURBULENT TIMES: 

🔹Develop Emotional Regulation: Recognize & manage your emotions to make clear-headed decisions in challenging circumstances. Techniques like reframing situations, strategic breath work, & pausing to assess the situation can help regulate emotions during chaos.

🔹Master Mindfulness: The practice of being fully present, aware, & alert in the moment is critical to control a chaotic situation. By cultivating mindfulness, you can clearly observe your thoughts & emotions without immediately reacting. Incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine through meditation, breath work, & practicing the power of the pause.

🔹Engage in Active Listening: Effective communication is a cornerstone of non-reactivity. Learn to listen actively, not just to words, but also to emotions, nonverbal cues, & underlying needs. By listening deeply, you can respond thoughtfully rather than impulsively, fostering constructive dialogue in turbulent times.

🔹Practice Patience: Non-reactivity requires patience and resilience. You must learn to embrace impermanence & stay grounded amidst change. To build consensus &  negotiate effectively, you must have patience with the process. Cultivating patience enables you to respond thoughtfully & navigate challenges brilliantly. 

🔹Embrace Tactical Empathy: Empathy is imperative, even in high-stakes situations. Tactical empathy involves understanding others’ perspectives & emotions without necessarily agreeing with them. Empathy allows us to diffuse tensions & navigate conflicts more effectively.

The ability to remain non-reactive amidst chaos is a game-changer. 

By integrating emotional regulation, mindfulness, active listening, patience, & empathy into your personal & professional lives, you can navigate turbulent waters like a pro. 

When you embrace these practices, you will elevate your presence, making a positive impact in your organization & beyond.

Of all the players I’ve seen in the NCAA tournament so far, DJ Burns from North Carolina State University has the most noticeable joy this year. 

When you watch him play, he beams & you can tell he loves the game. 

His attitude is contagious!

Which got me thinking about the way we show up each and every day.

Regardless of our circumstances, we always choose how we respond.

Your attitude is your responsibility.

No matter what.

PROCRASTINATION IS THE THIEF OF PRODUCTIVITY

It blows my mind that with all the technology, with all the AI, and with all the education there is around success, that so many people are still stagnating.

It’s shocking to see how many high level executives fail in the follow through,

And what’s even more mind blowing to me is how many people numb out on Netflix or endlessly scroll on social media instead of just doing what they need to do.

A major problem I see is that most people don’t recognize the subtle ways they procrastinate.

In fact, right now, you may be thinking, “that’s not me.”

“I’m not a procrastinator.”

Because we often think of procrastination as synonymous with laziness, but that’s not always the case.

In fact, procrastination can show up in many subtle ways, including:

❌ Excessive Planning

❌ Perfectionism

❌ Engaging in Low-Priority Tasks

❌ Constantly Checking Emails & Notifications

❌ Indecisiveness

❌ Waiting for Inspiration

❌ Lack of Boundaries

❌ Fantasizing

These subtle forms of procrastination can hinder your progress & destroy your productivity. 

Recognizing these patterns is the first step towards adopting strategies to overcome procrastination and enhance efficiency. 

So if you find yourself engaging in these behaviors, it’s time to BREAK YOUR PROCRASTINATION HABIT!

Here’s how: 

🎯 UNDERSTAND THE ROOT CAUSE: Procrastination often stems from underlying emotional factors such as fear of failure, perfectionism, anxiety or overwhelm. Dive into the reasons behind your procrastination. Reflect on your emotions and thoughts when you avoid tasks. Awareness of these underlying triggers can empower you to address them effectively.

🎯 BREAK TASKS INTO MANAGEABLE STEPS: Our brains tend to perceive large, daunting tasks as stressful, leading to avoidance. Combat this by breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. This approach leverages your brain's reward system—each completed step triggers a sense of accomplishment and releases dopamine, motivating you to continue.

🎯 UTILIZE HIGH PERFORMANCE TIME MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES: Structured routines are critical for combating procrastination. Implement techniques such as the Pomodoro Technique (working in focused intervals with breaks), time blocking (allocating specific time slots for tasks), or setting time time bound deadlines. These strategies leverage the brain's response to increase productivity.

By integrating these insights into your daily life, you can develop personalized strategies to overcome procrastination and enhance your levels of productivity.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO LET GO OF TO THRIVE?

Is it expectations, a bad attitude, a dead end job, or a failed relationship?

The truth is that we get attached to things that hold us back & we need to release them to reach new heights.
 
Throughout my years studying yoga, mindfulness, & meditation, I was often exposed to the concept of non-attachment.
 
Back then, I rejected the notion because I didn’t understand it, 
 
but over the past few years, I’ve learned how critical non-attachment is to our happiness, fulfillment, & success.
 
In my work as a high performance coach, I’ve become acutely aware that embracing non-attachment is imperative on your path to personal & professional freedom. 
 
You see, contrary to how it sounds, non-attachment is NOT about detachment or indifference.
 
 It's a profound practice of letting go of rigid expectations & fixed outcomes. 
 
It's about embracing the present moment fully, without being overly fixated on specific results.
 
The principle of non-attachment invites you to engage with passion & dedication while remaining open to the flow of life.

In the realm of business, non-attachment serves as a catalyst for innovation & growth, empowering leaders navigate challenges with resilience. Embracing change & releasing rigidity enables organizations to adapt swiftly & effectively ensuring sustained relevance & success.
 
In our personal lives, embracing non-attachment fosters emotional freedom.  Letting go of unrealistic expectations empowers you to be authentic, fully accepting yourself & others as they are. 

So how do you DEVELOP NON-ATTACHMENT? 
 
🔹CULTIVATE MINDFULNESS: Be fully present in each task, conversation, & decision without dwelling on past regrets or future worries. This presence allows you to respond rather than react.
 
🔹RELEASE RIGIDITY: Embrace strategic adaptability. Maintain clarity on goals & flexibility in your approach. Focus on lessons learned to stay agile & responsive, pivoting as needed & using change as a catalyst for growth.
 
🔹EMBRACE IMPERMANENCE: Everything in life is impermanent. By acknowledging this truth, you can cherish each moment & relationship without grasping onto them excessively. Accepting impermanence liberates you from fear & empowers you to live fully in the moment.
 
🔹DETACH FROM EGO: Practice non-attachment by detaching from your ego-driven desires. When you let go of the need for validation, you tap into a deeper sense of purpose, authenticity, & freedom.
 
🔹PRACTICE GRATITUDE: Appreciate what you have without becoming overly attached. Gratitude opens your heart, fosters abundance, & enables you to share your gifts freely.
 
As you integrate the principles of non-attachment into your professional & personal life, you embark on a journey of profound self-discovery & growth.

As I sat down to write about my experience at the NABC and the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four, one theme resounded: CONNECTION.
 
I went to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Convention to share my new innovative CATALYST program, a team cohesion workshop to develop high performing, championship teams, and left the week in awe of the amazing connections I made.
 
From interesting people at my hotel to conference attendees, from dinners to social events, I was amazed at the high caliber people I met.
 
Of all the people, the most intriguing connections didn’t come from the conference though, they came from being curious at breakfast and dinner, being open minded on flights, and ultimately, being fully present in each moment.
 
Whether you’re a business person or an entrepreneur, every connection you make counts.
 
Every new person you meet has the potential to be a game changer in your life or you have the potential to be a game changer in theirs.
 
So the next time you want are in public, don’t be glued to your phone or listening to your air pods, instead, look up and look out.

IT’S TIME TO RESURRECT YOUR DREAMS

I love Easter. 

As a Christian, it’s significant in many ways, but beyond my faith, the story of resurrection makes me think of our personal journeys through life.
 Christ's resurrection demonstrates life's victory over death, paralleling the revival of neglected parts of ourselves & our forgotten dreams. 
 
Through the trials of our lives, we can feel our lights flicker & burn out. 
 
Fortunately, like Christ emerging from the tomb, we too can experience a rebirth, revitalizing dormant dreams, forgotten passions, & lost hopes. 
 
We can create a resurrection within ourselves, embracing the promise of renewal, redemption, & transformation.
 
But how is that possible?
 
Some of you may feel so far away from the life you desire that you feel it would take a miracle to revive your ambitions.
 
The good news is that as long as you are alive, you can breathe new life into your dreams & work to make them a reality.
