During our Marketing Support Group call this week, we started like we always do - by sharing wins. 

One member shared that she just landed her second biggest client ever, which was super exciting and so fun for all of us to celebrate together. 🙌🏼

Then another member paused and said she wasn’t sure she had a win. She explained she’d been working through her marketing tasks, but didn’t have a major result or “win” to share. 😕

This was a helpful reminder for me (and everyone on the call)…

Many of us think "wins" only count if they’re big results or outcomes.

But the truth is, completing key tasks - like publishing a blog post, sending an email campaign, engaging on LinkedIn, or submitting a speaking application, are all wins in and of themselves. 

They are steps forward that help us build momentum and move toward our goals. 🎯

In marketing especially, these smaller efforts matter. They keep you consistent and focused, even if the outcome isn’t immediate.

So here’s my takeaway: 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. 🎉

Don’t wait for something huge - recognize progress in the everyday things you do to grow your business. 🌱 

What’s one small marketing task you completed this week that deserves a little celebration?

I was standing in my kitchen, double-checking my son’s backpack 🎒 for forest school 🌲 when a wave of worry and overwhelm hit me. 

Did I forget something important?  I scrolled through the email from the school - so many instructions, so many details, what were we forgetting? 

Even though my son had been to nature camp before, this felt… harder.

More things to remember. More pressure. 😰

As we got ready to leave, my worry continued. What if he didn't have what he needed? Would he be embarrassed or frustrated? 

As we pulled out the driveway, I finally let it go. It would be what it would be. And after his first day, we could detail out a list of what he needed for next time.

That afternoon, as I picked him - he was all smiles and had the best day.

And when I asked him what we was missing, he said simply - “I need a spork.” 🥄🍴

A spork? Not an expensive piece of clothing. Not a fancy outdoor gadget. Just a simple utensil. 

Relief rushed through me. One spork. That’s it? I laughed - how could it be so simple? 😅 The next week, I ordered a spork online, and we were ready.

This experience made me realize...

Sometimes, we build up problems in our heads and assume the solution is complex - a massive overhaul, a dozen new things to buy, an endless list of fixes to make.

But often, it’s just one thing. One tiny change, like a spork. 

It reminded me about marketing, too. We can feel like there are a hundred things to fix for our business, but sometimes, there’s just one missing piece. One quick win that makes an incredible difference.

In life and in work, it doesn’t always take a giant effort to move forward. Sometimes, the simple things make the biggest difference. 💡

Don’t settle for a fancy sales pitch or slick website. Ask for actual examples of work similar to what you need. If industry privacy rules are an issue, they should be able to walk you through past successes in a general way or even create a small sample for your business.

2️⃣ 𝗣𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
A great provider should be asking YOU a lot of questions. If they don’t seem interested in your unique needs, business goals, or what makes your company different, that’s a red flag. The more they get to know you, the better your results will be. 🗣️

3️⃣ 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳
This could be client testimonials, case studies, or the chance to talk to one of their recent clients. If trust is important, don’t be shy—ask for those connections!

4️⃣ 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁
Ben talked about how he builds trust by offering free events, allowing people to see the value before they buy. Whether it’s a webinar, a guest pass, or sample assets, look for folks willing to let you “try before you buy.” 🎁

5️⃣ 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗲-𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀
If they do the exact same thing for everyone in your industry, or can’t explain how they’ll customize their work for you, keep looking.

Remember: There’s no “key” to success, just the right combination for your business. You deserve solutions that are tailored to YOU. 🔑

𝘿𝙤 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚?

Have you ever felt like you’re forcing yourself (𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴) to do something that just doesn’t fit? 

I was recently thinking about how much my dog dislikes walking on a leash. She sits, she sniffs, she refuses to move - and the whole experience quickly turns into a frustrating battle just to get around the block. It’s not enjoyable for either of us. 🦮

But once I started taking her to an open field where she could run free and I could walk laps, everything changed. She was happy to move, and our walks became something we both enjoyed. ☺️🍁

It got me thinking - how often do we do the same thing in our marketing? 

How often do we force ourselves to create social posts, write emails, or stick to a content plan that feels like dragging a stubborn pup around the block? 😅
It doesn’t have to be that way. Here’s how you can make your marketing work for you (𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥):

1️⃣ 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Write down everything you do for marketing every week. Circle the things you dread or always push off. That’s your “leash walk.”

2️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸: Ask yourself honestly: Is this effort really working for my business? Or could there be a better way?

3️⃣ 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻: Instead of forcing yourself, try new approaches that align with your strengths and the way you want to show up for your audience. Love talking but hate writing? Try video or podcasts. Enjoy connecting one-on-one? Focus on personal messages or networking.

4️⃣ 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲: Use the Marketing Funnel Framework (𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵, 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵, 𝘕𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦) to organize your efforts. Pick one thing for each category that feels good to you and focus your energy there. It’s not about doing ALL the things. It’s about doing the RIGHT things in a way that feels natural and authentic.

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱.

When you enjoy the process, you’ll show up more consistently - and your results will follow.✨

So, what parts of your marketing feel like dragging a dog on a leash? What small change could turn things around for you?

We were halfway through the corn maze when I realized we were in over our heads. (𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺.) 😅

My son and I had stopped at a roadside farm stand to pick out pumpkins, with one of our dogs in tow. Then he noticed the corn maze and asked if we could try it. I agreed, thinking it would be a fun, and hopefully relatively quick activity.🌽 🐕 

As we wandered through the maze, I started to feel a bit unsure…and anxious. Direction isn’t my strong suit, and without my husband there, I wondered how a 10-year-old, a Labrador, and I would find our way out. 🫤

Part of me wanted to just turn around and head back the way we came. That seemed like the simple, safe choice.

But my son wasn’t worried. Each time we reached a dead end, he was ready to try another path - sometimes even letting the dog decide. 

Watching him, I noticed how he focused on the next move instead of getting frustrated. He was in the moment, just learning as we went along. And he had full confidence we would find our way out.

That’s when my perspective shifted. I realized marketing is a lot like that corn maze. We try different strategies - sometimes they lead nowhere or take longer than we hoped. 

It’s easy to want to give up or go back to what feels familiar. But what really helps is staying curious, being willing to try again, and keeping the process simple.

When I work with my clients, I remind them that marketing can be straightforward if we use a clear framework. By breaking it into steps - 𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵, 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵, 𝘕𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦 - it’s easier to decide the next right action. 

Having someone to guide and encourage you can make all the difference, just like my son did that day.

That corn maze reminded me that:
𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀, 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.

What’s one simple marketing step you took recently, and how did it help you move forward?

Here's a hard truth about your marketing strategy—
switching things up every week isn’t creative, it’s exhausting. 😬

I see so many coaches, consultants and small biz owners bouncing between new platforms, tools, or approaches, convinced that more options mean better results. 😅

But here’s the thing:
👉🏼 Constantly changing directions actually drains your energy, eats up your time, and keeps you stuck in overwhelm. You never get to enjoy the view or find your rhythm.

The lesson? 
👉🏼 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀.

When you choose one clear, repeatable route (𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭), you free up mental space, make better progress, and actually enjoy the process.

Try categorizing your marketing efforts using the 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 (𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵, 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵, 𝘕𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦). Then focus on designing a simple plan you can execute consistently.

So, I’d love to know:
𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙞𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙟𝙤𝙮𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚?

When I first started driving my son to Forest School, I realized the options were endless in terms of the routes we could take. 🌲

The first couple I tried out were frustrating - too many turns to remember and I realized I’d probably always need to be using my GPS to go those ways. 🚘

It wasn’t the end of the world, but I definitely noticed that I was spending extra mental energy just to get us there. 

After a couple more tries with different routes, I found one that just made sense. It was more straightforward, took less effort, and the scenery was beautiful. 🌄 

Once I settled on that path, the drive became something I could do without thinking too much. We know what to expect, and now it’s a routine that feels easy and enjoyable.

This made me think about marketing. If our marketing plans are full of complicated steps and constant changes, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and frustrated. 😰

But when you choose a clear and simple plan, everything gets easier. You can actually enjoy the process and get things done without feeling stretched too thin.

That’s where the 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 (𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵, 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵, 𝘕𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦) comes in. 

When you know which actions fit where, and you stick to a plan, it’s simpler to execute and measure results. 🎯 

𝗔 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹. 😌

If something in your marketing feels too complicated, look for a simpler way. 🌱 

Sticking with a plan that feels easy and fits your style can make a big difference.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? 🤔

You scroll through social, look through your email inbox, or browse other people’s websites and it seems like everyone else has their sh*t together except you. 

It’s easy to start comparing yourself and feel like you’re not doing enough. I get it - it’s “comparisonitis,” and trust me, we all do it.

But here’s the thing: comparing yourself to others isn’t just common, it’s 𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭. 

I was recently listening to Mel Robbins’ book “Let Them,” and she said that science has proven that comparing ourselves to others is totally natural.

What really matters though, is how we respond to it.

You have two choices: 

1️⃣ 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 - burning you out and making you feel like you’ll never catch up. 

2️⃣ 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂 - by turning those feelings into a chance to learn and grow.

So, how do you shift out of comparison and into learning?

Comparison without Burnout: 3 Simple Steps

𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲'𝘀? 🫣
Comparison is a normal, natural human tendency. (𝘠𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘵!)

Trying to shut it off completely is unrealistic. The real problem isn’t in noticing what others are doing. The real problem is when you let comparison torture you, rather than teach you.

Instead of letting comparison eat away at your confidence or push you into burnout, what if you saw it as a 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘭 - an opportunity to get curious and learn about yourself and your business?

Here are a few ways you can use comparison as your teacher (𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳):

1️⃣ 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗷𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗿 “𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱,” 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳:  What am I really drawn to in this other person’s marketing? Is it their consistency? Their authenticity? Their results?

2️⃣ 𝗗𝗶𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿: Are you comparing apples to oranges? Consider the differences in business stage, offers, audience, and what feels authentic for you.

3️⃣ 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮: Are there actions you’re craving to take, but haven’t allowed yourself to start? Let that feeling guide you to what you truly want more of in your marketing.

4️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳: Not all marketing tactics are created equal or right for every business. Just because someone’s thriving on a certain social platform or tactic doesn’t mean that’s in alignment for your goals, audience, or offers.

5️⃣ 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: Let these feelings highlight where you want to grow, what moves you want to make, and what actually lights you up.
Next time you notice yourself looking sideways and feeling comparison creep in, pause and ask:

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙪𝙥 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨?

Wish I could tell you there’s a magic formula
to hiring the perfect marketing partner...
but the truth?

It’s a lot more nuanced. 🫠
