HRs gift what they think is convenient.

Someone said that to my face recently, and I remember being so angry about it. 

Ironically the very same night, I stumbled upon Flipkart ’s spoof report, ‘The Great Indian Corporate Gifting: Unwrapped’ in my mailbox.  It showcased the classic copy-paste gifting energy HRs have. And I laughed so hard as I realised this person I met in the morning wasn't entirely wrong.

One thing I’ve learned after years of building culture and leading HR: appreciation lands best when it feels personal.

𝐀 𝐠𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐮𝐬𝐞.

That’s why I love the idea of gift cards, they’re thoughtful gifts that say, “I trust your choice.”

When people get to pick what fits their life, appreciation stops feeling like an obligation and starts feeling like a connection.

To the person who said that to me - thanks. You made me reflect, laugh, and reset how I look at gifting.

We often focus on intensity in relationships and in leadership.
However, it is consistency that holds everything together.

I recently watched the latest episode of The Relationship Edit by Matrimony.com Limited, and two ideas stood out very strongly.

First, value compatibility matters far more than shared hobbies or similar interests.

Two people can enjoy completely different things, but if their beliefs about family, money and lifestyle do not align, they will repeatedly face friction.

This is equally true in organisations where teams struggle when values do not match, even if skill sets do.

Second, consistency is a reliable indicator of character.
One-off good days or bad days do not define a person.
Patterns do.

Repeated behaviour, over time, reveals who people truly are.

In leadership, this is the foundation of trust.

In relationships, it is the foundation of stability.

I appreciate that Matrimony.com Limited is starting a conversation that moves beyond the idea of love as a feeling and focuses on love as a partnership that requires alignment, steady behaviour and shared understanding.

These insights are relevant not only for couples but for leaders, teams, and organisations as well.

Alignment gives direction.
Consistency builds trust.
