No joke having young kids while trying to grow a startup has been a massive challenge.

I started freelancing when my wife was pregnant with our first baby and we needed some extra cash. 

I LLCd my first startup months after our son was born.

Nothing against the accomplishment of building a startup without kids…

But damn , I have such mad respect for those of you out there with kids and a legit job or company and making it all work…

And yes sometimes you feel like you are failing both jobs if parent and business leader…


And sometimes you feel like you are really crushing it

But wow is it a true test of patience , time management, and mental fortitude.

Is 9 to 5 really that bad?

Everything seems black or white nowadays.

Following social media, news, or discussions:
everything seems to be polarized.

Recently I read posts from well-known LinkedIn influencers: "Escape 9 to 5!"

A well-paid job, done with happiness - what's bad about that - nothing, I say.

"But, the FREEDOM".

Yes, the freedom: Listen, I know a lot of solopreneurs and entrepreneurs. Some HAVE the freedom, many don't.

"But, the AUTONOMY!"

Same, I know both. Solopreneurs who hate their customers and entrepreneurs who hate their company.

You hate your job? Change something.
You feel unhappy? Change something.

But telling millions of people that their life choice is bad? I know plenty of very happy employees.

If you are thinking about starting your own entrepreneurial journey: I share my knowledge, experience, and tools.

Follow the feeling, your intuition if it guides you to this point. If you decide to stay employed in the end: There is nothing wrong with that.

Do what feels good for you.

"All young people are SO LAZY!"

In Germany, we discuss a lot about "work ethics."

Usually, older generations declare, "How lazy those younger people are!"

Those youngsters want to:

→ Work less than 40 hours.
→ Have four-day work weeks.
→ Spend more time on what they love.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂!

I call it brilliant.

Do you know the average working hour in 1890 (UK)?

𝟲𝟮 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸.

So, compared to them, we are all lazy bastards.

𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟯𝟬𝟬𝘀 𝗨𝗞, 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝟭𝟮 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸.

No wonder those are called the Dark Ages, right?

And today?

𝗢𝗻 𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟯𝟮 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀.

Listen, it's not about HOW MUCH you work.
𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲.

And if you think you are "the workforce elite" because you work 60+ hours, I don't care.

That's why we at Histack love automation:
We believe people deserve to spend as much time doing what they love.

I see myself starving under a bridge.
Every single day.

I quit my job.

I only opt in for things I am sure I can handle.
But we all know that growth happens outside the comfort zone.

Funnily, I know people with much bigger track records experiencing the same. People who build 7-figure companies.

What do I do against it?

1. Sharing it, like in this post
2. Talking about it with friends.
3. Accepting those feelings.

Allow those emotions.
But don't allow them to dictate your life.

How folk helped me to make a $1.770 deal.

LinkedIn s*cks at what is supposed to do best: networking and communication.

Why isn't it possible to

→ create LISTS of people?
→ take NOTES per person?
→ to remind me to follow up?

I don't get it, seriously.

Luckily, there is a solution: folk

folk helps me stay on top and have an overview of the power of lists, which include personalized columns.

I have several lists:

→ Freelancers.
→ Creators.
→ Leads.

My lead list has a simple structure: 

1. Full Name
2. LinkedIn Profile
3. Industry
4-7. Checkboxes for follow-ups

I can now easily keep track and miss nobody.
Doing this with the LinkedIn sales navigator was really painful …

Through structure follow-up with folk I secured a $1,770 contract with a Social Recruiting Agency for a scraping project, and I saved roughly one hour per week with their Chrome extension.

What the Chinese Finger Trap taught me about my life & business

1. You put your fingers inside a rubber tube.
2. By pulling, the grip increases.
3. You can't release your fingers.

The harder you pull, the tighter it closes.
It's powerful enough to dislocate fingers!

Only by relaxation can you free your fingers.

Does this sound familiar?

When I encounter problems, I usually try to "force" a solution by spending time or money on it.

Like the Chinese finger trap, life doesn't always bend to my commands and wishes.

Forcing leads to:

→ More stress.
→ Less creativity.
→ Worse solutions.

I realize (slowly) that taking a break and accepting that things take time is a superpower I haven't developed yet.

The famous "shower moments":
They happen because we relax.

How I Ended Up Broke on a Friend's Couch

In 2016, I quit my job.
My dream was to start my own business.

The idea was to sell our system: Mindtelling.
A mixture of mind and storytelling.

I firmly believe (until today) that we are the result of the stories we tell ourselves about the world and ourselves.

Therefore, I created a complete framework to create your own story in your mind - based on science.

𝗨𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆, 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗡𝗢 𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴.

I fell in love with the tool, "Mindtelling".

But people don't care about tools.

People care about results.
They care about what keeps them up at night.

If you can solve it, they will pay you.

It was ridiculously hard to sell my workshops since I tried to sell a tool instead of an outcome.

Nobody knew Mindtelling.
Nobody gave a f*ck about Mindtelling.

I burned all my cash and in the end,
I had to crash on a friend's couch.
All my money was gone.

Use your tools to solve problems.

Remember:
People don't want the drill.
They don't want the hole in the wall.
They don't even want the painting.

Formulas are the heart of Google Sheets.
Sums, averages, or filters... 

ChatGPT and similar tools can make our lives easier: 
Ask them to write the formulas FOR you. 

I love to use it when I am using arrays or working with date functions—it's not complicated, but it can be annoying.

Use this simple framework:

1. Define the input cells 
2. Define what you need

Example: 
I want to calculate how many days and weeks have past since a specific date. 

My prompt:
"Write a google sheets formular that calculates how many days and weeks have passed since date in A1 output as "X Week(s) and  Y day(s)" 

The Output:
=DATEDIF(A1, TODAY(), "D") & " day(s) and " & QUOTIENT(DATEDIF(A1, TODAY(), "D"), 7) & " week(s)"

This simple prompt was written in 15 seconds, saving me at least 5 minutes. 

Nice, right?

Are We Too Focused on Our Mistakes to See Our Successes?

Yesterday, I came across another newsletter that declared, "Avoid these 9 Mistakes When Selling to Your Customers."

As I reviewed the list, my immediate reaction was: "This is why our sales strategy isn't working—we need to address points 5 and 7."

However, it only took a moment for me to realize what I had overlooked: we're excelling at points 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 9. Yet, my focus was solely on the areas needing improvement.
Striving for improvement is beneficial. But why do we tend to zero in on the negatives so often?

Here's a thought: While it's easy to focus on flaws, recognizing our successes is equally important. 

Moreover, this shift in perspective isn't just about feeling good—it's a catalyst for greater happiness and motivation.
