I kept wondering why India hasn't built its own TikTok yet. Then I asked a German startup expert—and his answer surprised me. Here's what I learned (and why I can't stop thinking about it). I reached the event at Workie Tech Park by 4:55 pm, excited yet a little nervous. As 5:05 passed, I saw Torsten Kreiling casually chatting nearby. Immediately, my mind whispered, "He's German. Must be judging our relaxed Indian timing." Torsten shared powerful insights into European startup expansion—cultural differences, Germany’s aging population needing Indian talent, and how German government agencies even sponsor startups to visit and learn. But my heart raced faster during Q&A. A question has been bothering me—why do Indian startups focus mostly on marketplaces or gaming while China builds revolutionary tech like WeChat or TikTok? I emailed Torsten earlier about this. When my turn came, I nervously read out my question. He smiled warmly and replied, "It's complex, and many factors are involved. But I know someone who might help. Let's discuss." The event ended. But my thoughts kept swirling—vision, talent, or funding—what exactly holds Indian startups from profound innovation?
