I fired all of my clients several years ago.

Operations are NOT here to support finance.

Operation leaders need accurate and transparent financial data to make informed decisions, which is where you, the Fractional CFO, come in.

👉 Financial leadership without a working understanding of operations is what I call “financial leadership by spreadsheet.”

And too many CFOs are leading this way!

Talk about a fast way to diminish your value and become thoroughly discredited by ops.

👉 For example, take tax strategy.

You recommend a tax strategy that looks great on paper, but maybe the company wants to keep extra cash in the bank because they plan on acquiring another company.

Or maybe you recommend that they cut employee pay because their employee wages are higher than industry averages.

But come to find out, those employees are total rockstars, the CEO loves his low-stress lifestyle with those employees and doesn't mind having lower margins.

👉 Finances only tell ONE side of the story.

Don't throw out ideas only to make the financials look better.

"Hungry dogs run fast!"

Keep that in mind if you're thinking about starting a Fractional CFO firm.

Here's why 👇
A lot of Fractional CFOs start off doing Fractional CFO work as a side hustle  - while still keeping their day job in corporate America.

They say that when their firm gets "big enough", they'll make the move to full time Fractional CFO. 

I understand the reasoning: 
We're numbers people.
We play it safe.

But what ends up happening sucks:
You're working 50-60 hours a week at your "real" job.
You're putting in another 10-20 at night and on the weekends in your new firm.

And you don't get any real traction in your firm so it never gets "big enough" to replace the full time job.

Why? 

It's because you have a safety net. 

That safety net keeps you from getting hungry enough to push hard to get the firm scaled up and viable.

I'm challenging you to rip off the bandaid and go full time. 

I'm not suggesting you put your famlily in danger.

But I AM suggesting you should bet on yourself.

When was the last time you bet on yourself and completely failed?

✅ Hang out in common areas or the bar during the evening after your talk. Get to know people and learn about their struggles.

✅ Skip the business cards and instead get people’s phone numbers or email addresses so the ball is in your court.

✅ Come up with a plan that works for you BEFORE the event so you show up with high energy and keep that energy throughout the event.

I’ve been doubling down on speaking at events, going to conferences, and attending networking events. 

And I’m seeing a huge payoff.
