I was never 100% sure that my deep personal interest in mind-body wellness would pay off professionally...  

But at Influence Machines it certainly has. There it's my honor to help write copy for master Qi Gong teacher Lee Holden and his brand Holden Qi Gong. 

(In case you're wondering, Qi Gong is similar to Tai Chi, In fact, Tai Chi is one of the many forms of Qi Gong.)

With his own show on PBS, Lee Holden is the closest you can get to a "household name" Qi Gong teacher. Having taught for over 30 years, he also happens to be humble, down-to-earth, steeped in great knowledge and form, and totally legit. 

For Holden Qi Gong, I've written loads of promotional email sequences and sales pages. I've provided copy audits and edits. I've also written scores of Facebook ads, including one that beat a regularly running control by 15%.

All throughout, I've been lucky to work with a supportive team of seasoned copywriters in a deeply collaborative process. 

End result: I've learned a heck of a lot about copywriting here!

So when you write for an audience, you want to focus on them as individuals. Their problems, their aspirations. Period. 

As a trained direct-response copywriter who knows human connection is the lifeblood of sales - I use sales psychology to intimately connect with the humans who are most likely to buy from you. 

Balancing big ideas, storytelling, and psychological triggers with strong proof, ethics, good writing, and timeless marketing principles - that's how I roll.

My clients have ranged from B2B tech, CPG PR, trades, sales training organizations, and e-commerce to wellness and fitness. 

As of 2024 I'm all in on email marketing. I'm a Klaviyo Partner who's certified in email deliverability and the Klaviyo Product itself. I'll also be completing AWAI's email copywriting mastery certification in February 2024. 

Finally, 2024 will see me wrapping up an original research project for content marketing with a client. In late 2023 we put together a survey, have run it for a few months, and soon I'll be writing up the results in a long-form blog post. (This type of project is great for boosting SEO when done right!)

Taovibes.com

Taovibes is a website where I've experimented with blogging on health and wellness topics since 2016. The focus of the site has changed over the years, but the common thread has always been wellness and self-care. 

This website represents the thought process and evolution I've undergone over the years. It's also an example of my wellness-oriented blogging.

Basically, I cut my teeth as a blogger on this website. It's where I first started implementing proper SEO strategies like using keywords, avoiding stop words, filling in metadata, topic clusters strategy, information architecture, etc.

The name came about because of my deep interest in Qi Gong (like Tai Chi) and music/sound healing.  

Back in 2016 I intended to merge these themes into a "cutting edge" (yet ancient) approach to wellness... 

But over the years I've gotten more into high performance... and have become a mom. 

So my focus has changed. In 2024, look out for a new website coming from me soon. Hint: It compliments my email list.

Like so many native speakers, using English correctly was second nature to me. I never really had to think about it. I just did it. I certainly never understood grammar.... UNTIL I taught English for nearly 3 years! 

From teaching adult students, to 3 year olds... there's something about actually having to understand and explain grammar and phonics that boosts your confidence with the language. 

Most of my lessons included grammar, phonics, reading, and speaking practice.  I also taught writing and public speaking - these were my favorite classes!

Finally, teaching online was only ever a part time job, by American standards.  So, like catering, it afforded me time for my first serious, in-depth forays into copywriting studies. 

I hand-copied the Boron letters during these years, and printed my first swipe file. I also signed up for my first expensive copywriting course. 

I also started a leadership and coaching site... which I later realized was best merged into my wellness site, taovibes.com.

In 2021, the online teaching chapter ended as quickly as it started. 

I knew it was the moment I'd been preparing for for over a decade - time *deliver results* to my people as a copywriter and online marketer.

What do these years in NYC have to do with my current marketing career? 

A lot, actually.  

First of all, catering in and of itself was never my main focus during these years. Developing a deeper take on wellness, success, and marketing was. 

Let me explain. 

About half my coworkers during the NYC catering years were actors and musicians. I felt a kinship with these people as a fellow "creative person", albeit one still finding my way. 

I started out studying music myself. As the years progressed, I realized that probably wasn't my actual professional calling. So I went on to explore a variety of holistic modalities, including coaching, sound healing, permaculture, and Qi Gong. 

Along the way I realized that whatever I ended up doing, I'd probably need some expertise in online sales and marketing to sell my services and "make it." 

2012 is the year that started everything for me. That's when I signed up for Marie Forleo's B-School. An intensive program that teaches you how to set up and run an online business from a Wordpress site. 

I soon realized that I found online marketing as fascinating to learn about as anything else I was studying. And I became, I must admit, one of those notorious "course junkies" for a number of years. 

I had my personal reasons for it (long story). But I ended up taking courses with Brendon Burchard, Eben Pagan, Michael Hyatt, affiliate marketing mentors, and a host of other marketing teachers. 

I learned a lot, and I slowly moved to a maturity of understanding. The concept of SEO keywords alone was a mind-blower for me at the time, and really helped me understand why CLARITY is the number one quality to go for in writing of all kinds. 

Finally, in 2018 I jumped off the catering wheel, and got one step closer to marketing - marketing myself as an online teacher.

For me, the coolest thing about working for this little company was visiting their organic farm in upstate New York. The owner would organize field trips, a few times a year. 

I remember meeting a couple who escaped the big, bad city to raise goats, as well as a happy vegetable-farming family. 

For years, Cleaver Company was "NYC's Top Green Caterer," with a commitment to using local organic produce and earth-friendly materials. 

Over my years here, they schooled me on applying "green" principles to event production -- from composting food waste, to bamboo flatware, to locally produced food. 

How did working here help my current marketing career? Catering in general taught me a lot about PEOPLE (it's a people business more than anything else), human nature, and human psychology. . 

I got used to "hobnobbing in New York", across all levels of society.

ABOUT MY TRAINING

My initial marketing education came from AWAI, Hubspot, and a decade of other online courses and self-study books. In spring of 2023, I earned CXL's Digital Marketing mini-degree.

I’ve completed email marketing certifications from CXL, Hubspot, and Klaviyo, and I'm a Klaviyo partner.  

Most of my copy chops have come from "learning by doing," especially as a B2C copywriter for celebrity Qi Gong teacher Lee Holden. But also from the forges of B2B writing.  

In the meantime, I write for and manage my own email list in Klaviyo. (Topic and audience: Gentle high performance tips for creative entrepreneurs.)

IN SUMMARY
