Step 1: Define who your dream clients are.


Step 2: Map out the industries and niches they fall under.


Step 3: Understand the words they use to describe your offer along with their expensive problems and goals.


Step 4: Researchevery way they could search for your offer on Google along with the main competitor alternatives by talking to them and using SEO keyword research tools. 


Step 5: Google each term you wanna rank for


Step 6: Check the format of the organic pages currently ranking top (article, listicle, landing page etc)


Step 7: Note down how you can improve the page that would best help dream clients and position your offer as the solution to their problem


Step 8: Build the best in class page based on your research and understanding of dream clients.


Step 9: EXHAUST this strategy for every keyword and page you wanna rank. Emphasis on exhaust.


Step 10: Build links for competitive keywords. Start by creating content/articles for partners going after similar ICP.

Ultimate B2B SEO Guide (Breaking B2B)

Just hit #1 organic for "B2B SaaS SEO Agency" here's my process to rank top of organic search for money keywords (5 months since starting Breaking B2B on a fresh domain):

1. Prioritise MONEY keywords

Map out keywords dream clients would search when ready to have a sales conversations in focus niches for the main offers you want to sell. 


2. Build best in class content

Build a page that hits the search intent (article/listicle/solution page etc. AKA what ranks well on google for focus keywords ATM) and make the page more helpful, actionable, and in-depth than anything else on the web.

Craft copy that is based on rock solid customer research so it resonates and converts.

With a design that is easy to navigate w/ social proof and clear CTAs (based on user intent and type of page).


3. Basic technical work

URL to have focus keyword in, same for meta data and heading tags. Apart from that not a tonne of technical BS.


4. Publish at scale

Build and publish pages at speed. This is the main advantage we had at Breaking B2B and any b2b tech company has over huge competitors. No red tap to slow down production.

Give it time to see how they rank. 

They keep looking for gaps you can blow competitor pages out the water (content/stats/social proof/FAQs/examples/unique data etc).


5. Juice it up

Use your partners/network/clients that go after the same ICP and offer to create articles for their site in return for a backlink to a focus keyword page.

This worked super well for us and only cost me sweat equity.


6. Keep going

Everyone says SEO takes time but if you hit it aggressively, build content with focus clients mind mind and keep looking for gaps to improve...you can make it a solid inbound lead driver for your b2b tech or service org.

Every week I see the same PAINFUL MISTAKES stopping B2B/SaaS orgs feeding their sales team leads from SEO:

❌ Focus on high volume keywords that drive traffic but zero demos or sales calls.

❌ Fail to weave in customer research (if you don't resonate you won't convert high ACV deals)

❌ Try to match competitor pages ranking instead of BLOWING them out the water completely

❌ Are too scared to go after keywords like '[competitor] alternative' '[competitor] pricing' [competitor] vs [you]' etc. 

❌ Don't EXHAUST bottom of funnel e.g. 'best [offer] tool/software/platform' & '[tool] for [niche you serve]' to completely dominate organic search to capture all folks searching for your offer now

❌ Take months to go from keyword idea to published page.

❌ Neglect Jobs To Be Done (JTBD) content that focuses on problem aware prospects 'how to [fix expensive crispy problem your solution solves]' with articles that address problem then position your offer as the new better way

❌ Fail to build solid niche relevant backlinks with existing partners in your ecosystem or network that go after the same client profile

❌ Forget their website should be a 24/7 sales rep. Most b2b prospects wanna quickly see: what you do, how you help, offer in action, pricing, proof of results, FAQs and easily book a call.

And who will you be next to? Some disgusting page 10 website that hasn’t seen an inbound lead since the 1800s, crying because you need to cold call for the next year! That’s who you’re gonna be without solid SEO.

So, you listen to me and you listen well...

Are you behind, on your link building? Good. Pick up the keyboard and get working. 

Is your content writer about to cry? Good. Pick up the keyboard and get working. 

Does your client think you’re a flipping worthless loser? Good. Pick up the keyboard and get working! 

I want you to deal with your problems, by ranking top!
