I took a long break from drinking alcohol.

But it didn’t make me lose weight. 

Here’s what did:

• Making protein central to every meal
• Hitting 12–15k steps every weekday
• “The sandwich, not the combo.”
• Drinking water all day long
• Lifting twice a week

And two things that surprise people most:

→ I started brushing my teeth with the kids at bedtime as a signal to myself: 

“That’s it. No more tonight.”

→ And I often don’t eat for 6 or 7 hours after I wake up. 

Simple game changer for lowering calories. 

And it’s not just about weight.

It’s about modeling something different for my kids.

My daughter led her entire class today in screaming at passing cars.

They were trying to get them to honk.

And kept count.

50 honks before the teachers shut it down.

It’s probably the only thing they’ll remember from the field trip.

And that fit perfectly into the rest of my day.

• Coffee with a client on his first day stepping into the CEO seat of a really exciting firm.

• A field trip downtown with my daughter’s class (which led to the honking experiment).

• Hibachi buffet with my wife and my father-in-law who was passing through town.

• A phone call from an old friend who wanted me to be one of the first to know:

She’s running for Congress. 
Big state. And she’ll win. 

All before school pickup.

Too often we think success means stacking bigger professional moments.

Now I think it looks more like this:

When the work you deeply care about 
AND the people you love most
All show up in the same day.

A very good day, my friends.

A lot of successful men don’t want to be invited to another men’s group.

They know they can’t tell the truth there. 

We hear a lot about guys getting together:

→ Breakfasts
→ Workouts
→ Dinners

But there’s a category of men those groups rarely reach.

Men carrying responsibilities that don’t fit neatly in a circle of twelve.

→ Business owners
→ Fathers
→ CEOs

The kind of men who walk into a group…
And immediately start managing the room.

So the real things stay buried.

But put those same men:

→ On a call
→ With a cup of coffee
→ Or walking down a quiet trail

And something shifts.

The honesty shows up.

If you’re one of those men, you already know.

You’re not avoiding community.
You’re looking for something rarer.

One place safe enough to tell the whole truth.

And often?
That place isn’t a group.

It’s one trusted conversation.

That’s the weird part of this whole thing: 

You put little pieces of yourself out there. 

And if you’re lucky, the right people find you. 

I’m grateful for the moments when that happens.
