I have always dreamed the digital nomad lifestyle. 🏄 However, the comfort of residing in a big city, having a stable marketing job in one of those fancy offices in the city center, and having my own place to live always held me back. To be honest, everything I knew about remote work back then was purely theoretical. COVID hadn't happened yet, and I hadn't experienced working remotely. In 2020, right at the beginning of the pandemic, my son was born, and the world slowed down. Nobody traveled anymore, and my parents and relatives joked about me wanting to move somewhere to work as a digital nomad. 😂 But everything changed on February 24, 2022, when my native country invaded its neighbor. Faced with the choice of going to jail for protesting or leaving Russia, I chose the latter. In March 2022, I found myself with my wife and our 2-year-old boy in Yerevan, without a job and with limited savings for the first months. But I was extremely excited and motivated to build our new life. I started reaching out to all my friends, colleagues, and people I had studied with. I was surprised by how many wanted to help me - I felt part of a global community, with connections from all around the world. In just two months, I found a remote job at a UK-based digital marketing agency. This experience opened up the world of online work and new opportunities through LinkedIn. Currently, I'm working on four projects and managing several teams. In just two years of freelance work, I've learned ten times more than I did while working in an office. Moving was the best decision I've ever made so far in terms of career development and learning new skills.
