Immediately, you think: Well, I want this, too!

So, you jump in front of the camera, recreate the same video, publish it, and…

… Crickets.

What went wrong?

You created what I call “Let’s do what they did” content.

Content that disregards:

Your unique strengths as a business owner
The overall content strategy that leads you up to a successful piece of content

Mimicking your competitors is not enough to have success with your content.

• How can you help them even better with your content? 
 
• What's their most significant challenge in business right now? 
 
• What are they planning to do about it? 
 
And go from there.

You should know both:

• Where is your audience?
• Which formats within the platform do they consume most?

Take LinkedIn, for example.

You can:

• Write posts and newsletters
• Record short-form videos
• Create live webinars
• Publish carousels

And a couple more.

But if you try it all at once:

Instead, you should:

• See what your competitors are doing
• Analyze formats working well for them
• Put your unique spin on those formats

Don't reinvent the wheel. Improve it.

For demographics, focus on the most crucial points: 
 
a) Age group 
b) Location 
c) Gender (if relevant) 
 
Plus, find niche-related reports. 
 
So, if you're tackling dentists in Quebec, research statistics specifically about this group. 
 
For psychographics, use the FFGA framework: 
 
• Fears 
• Frustrations 
• Goals 
• Aspirations 
 
These will be the backbone of crafting resonant messaging. 
 
2. STAKES 
 
What does it cost them NOT to choose you? 
 
What will they suffer if they don’t achieve the result you can help them achieve? 
 
Example: 
 
If they don’t use my content marketing services, they will burn $1000s on ads that give them mediocre results. 
 
3. STATUS QUO 
 
Specify three key stages of your customer's journey: 
 
• Where they were 
• Where they are 
• Where they want to go 
 
Use these to tap into your audience's desired state. 
 
4. ANTAGONISTS 
 
What holds them back from choosing you? 
 
Focus on external and internal barriers. 
 
Competition is much more complex than the 5 companies you're trying to win with 😉 
 
Now, compile it all into one concise sentence using the template on the graphic. 
 
And voila! Your content UVP is ready.

No, it doesn't.

Educational content: 
 
• Opens up conversations. 
• Raises brand awareness. 
• Establishes your position in the industry. 
 
But don't fool yourself into thinking it does all the heavy lifting. 
 
No content will replace the need for: 
 
• Content that communicates ROI 
• Content that opens conversations 
• Content that supplements the sales team

This is an audience research framework to help you distill actionable business insights from raw audience data.

It works like this:

• INSIGHT: I'll build a YouTube channel explaining how our beauty products are standing out from the competition

It prevents you from gathering audience data just for the sake of it. Every data point you find should be translated into an actionable takeaway for you.

2. FFGA:

The secret to making your content resonate?

Make it about them.

Find the FFGAs of your audience:

• Fears
• Frustrations
• Goals 
• Aspirations

Helps a ton here.

3. WLVS:

The best content strategy is the one that truly connects you with your audience.

WLVS helps to do this by encouraging you to embrace and share your journey as a business owner online.

Your:

• Wins
• Losses
• Values
• Stories

Are the most precious components of forming a relationship with your audience.

Relationship = Trust

And trust is the business owners' oil.

• How are they investing on your solution? 
 
You just *get* it. And your brain expects everyone else to get it, too. 
 
But it's not how marketing works. 
 
Marketing requires you to take a step back and articulate. 
 
That's the only way you can turn your "brain shortcuts" into an actual marketing roadmap. 
 
One that: 
 
• Attracts the right customers 
• Exceeds their expectations with quality 
• Delights them to buy from you. Repeatedly.
