One of the best things we invested in as a company this year was internal team education (thanks for pushing this Abby).

We take anywhere from 30-60 minutes a week hearing from a team member not just about their area of expertise, but what new movement they're seeing in the market.

It's radically simple, but amazingly effective. It gives the rest of the team visibility and insights into how other areas of marketing are speaking back into each other and into sales and vice versa. 

It's also just awesome to hear people like Rayne share some amazing expertise on seemingly black holes like SEO.

How do y'all do internal ongoing education?

If you're down and out today, here's for you. 

I'm reminded this morning that we all have the opportunity not always to chance our immediate circumstances, but rather our outlook and perspective. 

What does that actually look like?

A prayer and reminder:

"If Jesus was in this position, how would he see this person/environment/situatuon?

God, give me eyes and a mind to see it like you do."

I've needed this pause prayer more than ever recently, and let me tell ya something - it's powerful. It takes me out of worrying so much about me and gets me focused on supporting/loving those around and in front of me. 

I don't know if you needed it or not, but whether it's work, personal or both, I radically believe it's worth a try.

I love communicating. I love connecting. I love storytelling. 

I love the way people are moved by stories. By impact. By the lives of others around them. 

Because it's true, there are only two things that connect all of us:

Pain
+
Hope

And whether it's some kind of business, family, personal, or just life event - we need those stories more than ever. People don't need your perfect lives, they need the invitation into the mess that has hope of working out or pain of endurance.

Either way, your stories matter here. Even just for the one, they matter.

Keep writing.

About business, about life, about everything in between. Keep writing.

AI and Robots are just confusing. 

Like, we're just little human, pee-brained, blobs of flesh and we're somehow letting robots and technology rule our world...

"They're going to take our jobs!"
"They're only going to enhance our jobs!"
"Will Smith was right!"

Following the headlines is a losing game, y'all. Because what you really have to wrestle with as a service-based business owner is what you can *actually* do about it today. Have you actually looked into utilizing AI workflows for your systems or are you just having ChatGPT write your blogs? (that's a losing strategy FYI)

You really think that robot will do chores better than your kids or are you just hoping WALL-E comes to life sooner? 

All I'm saying is, stop living in the headlines and the crazy claims of radically evolution and start living in the practicalities of what you can control 3 steps in front of you. For your business, your team, and your family. What can you *actually* embrace to make your business better for GOOD?

If you've been wrestling robots and AI for your business growth, stop the sweating and let's just jam about it. I'll bring the coffee (especially if you're near ATX).

When things don't seem clear, it's easy to stay put. It's tempting to take the easy way out. 

And a lot of marketing feels like this: tons of unknowns and a huge waste of money. 

But that's if you don't have a good partner. That's if there isn't full clarity and education of strategy and execution. Not all marketing merits a direct ROI tomorrow. But a good partner helps prove it over time and gives you a consistent path towards growth. 

Stop feeling unclear about marketing and get connected with a partner who dives in deep with you.

You're too judgmental. 

It's not really a hook, it's becoming a reality for many of us. Somehow, somewhere along the way, we took free speech as a welcome invitation to absolutely slam people based on one interaction or one narrow perspective (aka post on social). 

Want to know how you and I can actually do something of value and impact in the world rather than share everything we think and believe about others right away?

Always believe someone acted with the best intentions.

Wow, hard, I know. Because if I recall, the world has taught me that I'm the most important thing (remember participation trophies?). 

But if we really think about it, most people don't wake up thinking "I'm going to go screw all these people over and make the worst decisions possible." 

No, most people wake up doing the best they can with what they have in front of them at the moment.

So, it stands to consider: Could we give more people the benefit of the doubt that they began with the best intentions?

Nothing worse than running a company like you're running like Forrest Gump... just ain't sustainable! 

It's why we love systems like EOS Worldwide. Doesn't have to be this, but as far as it relates to your sales and marketing - if you don't have a plan and budget,

you're keep running like Forrest until you can't no more.

It's wild to live under the premise that everything on this platform should be business. 

I know I'm preaching to the choir a little bit here, but also just important to remember.

For example, everything I do in business, directly impacts my family, my church, and friends. On top of that, anytime I travel to meet with clients. I have genuine opportunity to make impact greater than just business. And don't get me wrong I want people to make more money, revenue is our game.

But to be really great at business, there's a side of that where you have to be really good with people. And guess what, most of our lives aren't solely focused around business. Because of that, because of the fact that we can build commonalities on other fronts, we actually have the opportunity to do more business.

So, I guess this is just my caffeinated rant to give you permission, again, to be your full self in business. It might just help you in the long run.

Is anything worth it, really?
All the effort all the time all the stress... all the blood, sweat, and tears... truthfully: is it all worth it?

Writing on LinkedIn. 
Running ads. 
Putting up a site. 
Reading more on sales. 
Networking. 
Getting more clients. 

Not trying to get insanely morbid over here, but truly ask: what's it all leading towards?

Your personal actions. Your business actions. 

Are they leading towards some kind of growth or are you just making them because they feel good or someone said so?

I don't know if we consider this much in the age of innovation. But might be worth a few moments of thought today 🤷‍♂️

I have a confession: I hate getting marketed and sold to. 

But this just happened and helped re-prove for me the importance of diversified marketing channels and spend into brand awareness.

Traveling later this week, so I just wanted to remind y'all:

Don't drink airplane coffee. 

You're welcome.

I didn't think they used to matter much, but words matter a whole heck of a lot. 

They could mean the difference between new clients and lost leads. 

A bought in community or a bad Reddit thread. 

You could gain a lot or lose everything with words. 

So why would you leave them to chance on the "digital billboards" of for your company? 

Why would you be cute when you could be exact?

Why would you be clever when you could be clear?

Choose words that are clear, compelling, and drive people to action. You don't need a lot of them, you just need the right few for the right people at the right time.

Marketing stats and data are all over the place these days. It used to be so much easier

I put in a dollar and get out $5 - $10.

And even though it never *really* was that way, there are so many saturated channels, competitors, and confusing metrics that it's frustrating to not know where you should be.

What's worse? A lot of business owners I talk to who are winging their budgets going into that mess. How will you ever know what's "working" and what isn't?

We love some kind of structure like the EOS strategy. Because it helps give frameworks and guideposts and goals for all the Revenue-focused efforts you have. Even down to salaries. 

I hope you're not flailing like some I've talked to, but if you have some glimpse of an unknown, I'd love to talk to you.

The most expensive marketing plan is the one you never started.

Over the years I’ve seen so many service-based founders wrestle with investing in marketing. 

Some tried it before -> failed.
Some never tried it -> stagnated.
Some hired an intern -> got social posts…

To those who have been burned before: I’m sorry. AND did you and the team have radically clear expectations and outcomes before diving in? Did you know the desired outcome and outputs? Did they?

To those who’ve never tried: I’m sorry. I don’t know what “referral” marketing world you’re living in, but you’re just missing out on reaching people who never dreamed of reaching. Also, remember 10 touches to win? Well, we’re closing in on at least 20 touches in this saturated market (even for construction…). 

To those who hired that college intern: I’m sorry. You did get what you paid for. No college marketing degree can really help you build holistic and full-cycle revenue plays. And just creating social posts won’t get that done.

We had a client just this year in similar positions. When they finally turned on a true messaging and sales campaign, their overall leads dropped…

BUT their revenue increased. More right-fit buyers were coming through.

Marketing isn’t an expense when it creates predictability. It’s your insurance policy against slow seasons.

Always here to remind you: a cappuchino is 10oz or less (preferably 8oz).

One thing I don't understand is not having a holistic marketing and sales plan. 

I know that seems obvious here and I'm probably preaching to the choir... but still, so many service based businesses continue to waste money with one-off efforts. 

Ads for a month. 
SEO/GEO for a quarter. 
Blogs on and off. 
Events once a year. 
Newsletters - ish. 
Definitely do holiday social posts though....

One channel for a short period of time just won't cut it. It might have twenty years ago, but it just ain't the world we live in. 

The plan has to be clear and you have to understand what part of the funnel or buying journey each piece is meeting a potential buyer at. Otherwise, we're wasting money throwing spaghetti at the wall. 

And believe me, it it ain't al dente we're gunna have a real problem.
