I have the absolute privilege of attending NeurIPS 2025 in San Diego next week (Dec 2-Dec 6). NeurIPS is the Olympics of AI and it’s the largest academic conference for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the world (no big deal) 🌎 

I’m honestly pumped to hangout with colleagues, engineers, and learn a LOT about what’s happening right now in the AI world. Should be wild.

Our oldest son turns three today. 
A good reminder that time is our more precious commodity.

I’m not there, YET.
I haven’t succeeded, YET.
It hasn’t worked, YET.

Truly one of the most pivotal words we can use to rephrase our experience and reality.

Have you ever interviewed for a company and then didn’t get the job? 
You actually still might be able to get a job. Here’s how: 

First, let’s just admit that interviews can be intense and nerve-wracking. It’s pressure and it’s intense. 

If you do well and move on to the next steps, great! Well done!

But what if that doesn’t happen? What if you interview and it goes nowhere?

I have two thoughts that may surprise you: 

1) Sometimes we actually do BETTER than we think but it’s just a matter of someone else being closer aligned for the role. It’s a bummer and humbling, but sometimes we actually do a good job and it just doesn’t pan out. 

If that happens, you could be contacted for a different job, you could even be a “backup” candidate for the original job if the other candidate doesn’t work out (I’ve seen this multiple times)! So, ask good questions and stay in contact with your recruiter. 

2) If you didn’t perform as well as you’d like and the team doesn’t move forward, you can almost always interview again down the line! Some companies have a “cool off period” to wait before interviewing again, but you can usually still interview again. 

It’s actually not uncommon at all to get more experience, learn from our mistakes, interview again, do well, and get hired! Happens more than we might think…

So, keep those things in mind. Be thoughtful, learn, grow, ask questions. 

And most of all? Keep. Going.
