When you pay a fee to work with a recruiter, you aren’t paying for the candidates they send through, you are also paying for the endless hours spent networking and building relationships.

People aren’t always looking for something new, maybe you catch them just at the “right moment”, but that’s hard to predict. Making a connection and learning about the candidate and becoming top of mind when they are looking is crucial.

“Recruiting is easy...”

All you have to do is...

1. Interview the hiring manager to understand their needs and potentially help them to put together a job description.
2. You source or find a shortlist of candidates/ post the job/ ask around your network.
3. You then message, cold call, email, reach out to the candidates.
4. You begin to have conversations to understand the market, the candidate's motivations, etc.
5. You send the candidate to the hiring manager for more interviews.
6. You debrief with the candidate and the hiring manager to get feedback.
7. You then repeat with a few candidates, while keeping other candidates engaged and excited about the roles.
8. Then either you go back to step 2 or you move to an offer stage.
9. You present the offer to the candidate and either get an acceptance, rejection, or counteroffer on the offer. If rejected go back to number 2 or other candidates that made the cut if available still.
10. The candidate goes back to their employer to give their notice and may receive a counter offer. If the accept the counter go back to number 2 or other “warm” candidates if available.
11. If all goes well you wait a few weeks for the candidate to show up and start. If they do show up move to number 12, if not go back to number 2.
12. Onboard the candidate.

Now you just have to retain them 😉

Keep in mind recruiters may manage anywhere from 5-50 (or more) open jobs at a time…

Happy International Recruiters day.

Here are some thoughts on recruitment in 2024:

1. It’s been a brutal 24 months. 

2. The same people saying recruiting is easy are trying to reduce the function to an AI process.

3. There amazing AI tools like Betterleap (sourcing/contact information) and Metaview (transcriptions, summaries and interview intelligence) that can make you more effeicient as a recruiter but RELY on the human to produce the results. 

4. Recruiters are resilient.

5. Times will get better. When? I’m not sure, but talk to any recruitment pro that’s been in the game for 20 plus years and they’ll say the same things. Everything is a cycle.

Here’s to all my #recruiterfam out there. 🥂🥂🥂

One thing is a fact - Recruitment is anything but easy.

When you send the perfect candidate that meets all the requirements for the job after 4 weeks of sourcing, screening, and convincing candidates it's the best move.

Hiring manager:
"What a great candidate, I loved them... But since you found one, let's see if you can find 2 more to compare them to, we want options...
