If you want to engage buyers, try pushing them away.

It’s one of the oldest psychological principles in the book.

Most cold emails sound like this:

“I noticed this about your business, which means you’re likely in market for my solution.”

↳ We spot a buyer signal - like a new role, funding round, product launch - and use it to justify our outreach. It’s presumptuous, it’s assertive and it’s not very original.

A subtle but powerful shift:

↳ Identify the buyer signal, but instead of framing it as a reason for why they need your product, frame it as a reason for why they’re probably too busy for a sales call, and offer to share a useful resource instead. 

Example: 

"John - I see you've been running operations at Nike for almost four years now. You're probably got your processes dialled in, and I'm guessing the new Air Max launch is keeping you pretty busy, so I'm not asking for a call - just consent to send you a video."

Distance creates desire.
