I am what I like to refer to as a go-to person. If you need something done...no problem, I got it. If I don't know how to do it, I will find the person that does and make it happen. I am an inquisitive person that loves to soak up knowledge, and I am a quick learner. I pride myself on utilizing the knowledge I have gained to solve problems and develop processes. Having the ability to see things from "the big picture" perspective but also being able to zoom in to get all the detail is a skill I rely on heavily. Some look a problem at face value and come up with a quick and easy solution, only to find that their solution has created another problem they have not thought of. I, on the other hand, dig deeper. How will the solution affect other processes? Who will be impacted by the change? Will the change be beneficial to the overall team and company? I find solutions that consider everything to minimize the risk and fallout those solutions may bring. When I was younger, my father told me, "Life is like an obstacle course. Sometimes there is a straight path, and you can sprint. Sometimes there is a pit of mud, and you're going to have to get your hands dirty. Sometimes you are going to face a 10-foot wall. Now, what happens when you hit that wall? You can't get up there yourself. So, you can throw in the towel and quit, go around it, or wait for the next person on your team to help you up. What do you do?" (wait for my teammate, I would reply ) "Now what happens when your teammate gets you up on the platform is the most important part. Do you help them up, or do you continue? You help them up. Then you wait to make sure that everyone else on your team gets over that wall. Why? Because that's what leaders do." I didn't quite understand the gravity of that lesson until I joined the professional world. He always impressed on me the importance of working hard and being a good role model for my younger siblings. Now, I use those lessons to be the best asset for the company I work for and the best leader I can be for my team. Sometimes that means working alongside them to give them a helping hand to get over that wall. Sometimes that means encouraging them to keep pushing forward. I make sure that my team and I always pass the finish line.
