To test this, use a competency-based interview or a behavioral interview based on the STAR model.

S (situation) - situation. First, ask the candidate to recall a problem they faced in the past in the workplace: “Tell me about a situation when...”

4. UI will become generative and infinitely scalable 
 
Designers shouldn’t relax either - AI will do the same with the product as with features, but in the context of an interface that can be customized in a couple of clicks, simply “sorting through references” with the help of AI. 
 
And yes, finally, our own design systems will be used for their intended purpose (+ as an additional basis for AI). 
 
5. UI will tend towards minimalism 
 
With the advent of AI, information noise in the UI (and everywhere) will reach its maximum, which means that minimalist design, pixel perfect, design systems and other “facilitation of perception” will again come into fashion... 
 
The secret to product development is not only to say “no” 1,000 times, but also to accurately say “yes” at least a couple of times :)

While Google Gemini is approaching the quality of GPT 4 a year ago, its most direct competitor Claude remains a dark horse for many. 
 
🏆 Race for the championship 
 
So, in the race for 1st place in generation quality, these two - GPT 4 and Claude 3 Opus - are almost equal. The difference in Elo rating seems to be unimportant. 
 
🤔 Observations regarding Claude vs. GPT 
 
+ Claude works better than GPT with content and actually remembers large texts. Really remembers = not like GPT, which remembers mainly the beginning and the end, and often forgets the middle. And that’s not so bad - sometimes GPT starts to come up with ideas, filling in for what he didn’t remember. This is probably what I don’t like the most there. 
 
+ Claude’s web interface doesn’t freeze, unlike ChatGPT, which clearly isn’t thinking about web interfaces right now. 
 
+ An amazingly useful thing: if you copy and paste a large piece of something, for example, text, then Claude will quickly turn it into a file/attachment to your prompt. And it will immediately work with it, just like with files! 
 
...In ChatGPT (and this is my pain) you can paste at least the full text of the entire book into the input field. Only then will GPT refuse to do anything with it because, surprise surprise, the request is too long. 
 
+ Claude seems to be better with the speed and adequacy of generation in terms of the fact that less needs to be trimmed/changed/replaced. In GPT, of course, it is much less common to receive an answer that can be copied and pasted without editing without showing up. 
 
+ Claude himself is made by guys whose philosophy I like a little more than the philosophy of Sam and OpenAI. If, of course, we remove the main goal of any serious AI company: gradually and quietly get to AGI. 
 
😭 Now about the cons: 
 
+ You quickly reach the token/chat length limit. It feels like this happens many times more often than in GPT. 
 
+ There are no agents (like GPT Store), as a result, each repeating use case has to be described anew. 
 
+ From time to time you have to explain to yourself why you are paying for another LLM, very similar to GPT. If you think so, then it’s a little strange to pay $40 for 200% of what you need from a SOTA-quality neural network. Moreover, if I have to choose, I will stay with ChatGPT.

Expanding the window of motivation through drivers and blockers 
 
Let's continue about motivation: how to maintain it, moving along the waves of ambitions and desires. 
 
I want to share a simple but cool tool - the motivation matrix. It is based in part on the work of B.J. Fogg (a motivation specialist from Stanford), John Atkinson (Achievement Motivation Theory), Deci and Ryan and their Self-Determination Theory (SDT) are about internal motivation. 
 
Matrix axes: 
↑ vertical: degree or strength of influence, from small to high, 
→ horizontally: blockers (pull back) and drivers (move towards what is desired). 
 
💠 Drivers = everything that inspires, motivates, pushes us forward. For example, our mission, interest, desire to succeed, belonging, tribal support, feeling of security, recognition. 
 
💠 Blockers = everything that slows down, interferes, throws back. These are fears, doubts, loneliness, sadness when there are no quick results, shame, our “rake” and shadow manifestations. 
 
The window of motivation can be expanded by strengthening what drives and reducing the strength of what blocks. 
 
I propose to enter your own drivers and blockers into such a matrix. Not abstractly, but very concretely, in a situation where you are now smoking, because, as one of my clients said, “I’m pressing on the gas and the brake at the same time.” 
 
Drivers 
🟩 Pleasure from the process of creation 
🟩 The desire to make a cool thing and share it with others 
🟨Working in a team with cool people 
 
My blockers: 
🟥 Fear that the product will not appeal to the audience 
🟥 Doubts about choosing a focus 
🟧 Uncertainty 
🟧 Misunderstanding, skepticism, lack of support 
 
Putting everything into perspective, I notice two things: 
1) there is an advantage towards blockers = friction, fears; 
2) I see what exactly needs to be worked with in order to increase motivation (weaken strong blockers, pump up weak drivers).

Several issues, practices, and rituals are critical for teams.

+ Is it clear to everyone what rules we play by and what processes and agreements we have? 
+ Do we hear each other, let everyone speak, and take each other’s opinions into account? 
+ Do we resolve conflicts without avoidance and on a win-win basis? 
+ Are roles assigned and goals set? Does anyone have any illusions about this? 
 
2. Personality types on a team 
Like the Enneagram (a system of 9 psychotypes), it allows you to assess the team's capabilities, what motivations exist in it, what strengths you should rely on, and what weaknesses you should compensate for. 
 
Top 5 Enneagram types most common in teams. 
 
🔸 Achievers (3) - aimed at high results, but sometimes to the detriment of relationships. 
🔸 Enthusiasts (7) are restless seekers of new things who do not always have enough focus and perseverance. 
🔸 Dominators (8) - boldly take responsibility but can be abrupt with others. 
🔸 Perfectionists (1) are guardians of rules and order who lack flexibility. 
🔸 Helpers (2) - take care of the needs of others but leave their own for later. 
 
3. Leadership Focus 
Each team member has 1-2 “supporting” styles, as well as 2-3 that are not a priority at all. 
 
6 leadership tricks common to ambitious people, with pros and cons. 
 
🔸 Result. Focusing on results achieves goals, but relationships may suffer. 
🔸 Relationships. The emphasis on relationships and culture brings unity, but sometimes blurs the focus on tasks. 
🔸 Communication. They communicate and sell brilliantly, but can be superficial and disorderly. 
🔸 Process. They build clear systems, but it is more difficult to switch. 
🔸 Strategy. They think about the future and see the “big picture”, but risk losing their connection to the earth. 
🔸 Analytics. They get to the bottom of things through logic and data, but sometimes get bogged down in details. 
  
We need to recognize and value the contribution of everyone and prioritize diversity (we are different, this is value → more difficult) rather than similarity (we are similar, this is value → much easier). Everything is like in living systems: each organ is vital for the full functioning of the body.

🏎 Fast decision making 
 
A couple of months ago, I noticed that I was getting really stressed out when making decisions. Starting from small things to complex ones. And the work of a product, as you know, largely consists of making decisions. 
 
What makes decision making so tiring? Mainly - swings between different options. Previously, I could spend a lot of time thinking about some little thing, imagining different options, as a result I spent a lot of thoughts and energy on it and got terribly tired. 
 
🔖The main thing I understood is that you need to make decisions quickly. For 80% of simple solutions, 2-3 seconds are enough for the brain to highlight the more preferable one. You can call it intuition, but I'll focus on the brain, because everyone has a different attitude towards intuition :) 
 
At the same time, there are complex decisions that need to be approached rationally and wisely. Write down arguments, estimate, analyze. Decisions about buying an apartment/changing jobs/getting married are not made at the snap of a finger, and that’s the norm. 
 
Fun fact: despite all this, after analyzing and weighing the arguments, very often the decision turns out to be the same as it was 3 seconds later. But it varies :) 
 
🔵Working decisions come separately - they need to be made with reasoning, although with experience the sense of understanding makes them better and better on its own. But it is still important that work decisions are rational and justified. 
 
It is for quality decision-making at work that I try to free up resources by making quickly minor decisions. 
 
❓What if I make a mistake? 
 
1. Everything is buzzing - we remember about a useful attitude towards errors and non-linear development. 
 
2. This will calibrate the “solver” (brain / intuition / other mechanism), and it will make decisions even better 
 
3. Often the losses from a _wrong_ decision on an insignificant issue can be much less than the loss of energy spent on painstaking deliberation 
 
That's how things are! By making decisions quickly, I feel like a ninja who has learned the secret way to suffer less, do more, and be happy.

“Power to people” or how to build products, making limited information available to everyone 
 
Richard Barton is an American serial entrepreneur and founder of Expedia, Zillow, and GlassDoor services. All these successful products have a common idea - to take work from intermediaries, making important information open to everyone and controlling the tools to search for it. In 2021, Forbes estimated Barton at $ 2.2 billion. 
 
To promote the flywheel of demand, Barton companies use cycles based on data and content. They stimulate the initial demand by creating unique content and indexing an entire online industry (real estate in Zillow; hotels and flights in ExpeDia; employers in GlassDoor). 
 
✔️ExpeDia - earlier the cost of flights and hotels had to be recognized from travel agents. 
✔️ Zillow - you can find out the cost of your real estate and information about the area without communication with the realtor. 
✔️GlassDoor - You will find out reviews on the company and plug of salaries before communicating with a recruiter. 
 
Cycles based on data and content allow these companies to reach scale when other growth cycles enter the work: SEO, brand and network effects. 
 
The technological industry can be considered as a process in which we together move forward our understanding of different markets and business models. Over time, we will also understand customers in versatile, as we understand business models like SaAS. 
 
Although many ideas of Barton - for example, control of demand - have already become mainstream, its data cycles and content are still underestimated. 
 
The key call to the construction and scaling of the consumer business is to find ways to spur the initial demand. Data and content cycles are one of the few strategies that works well at this stage of business development. And since the world moves faster from a model with a limited sentence to a model focused on demand, strategies like data cycles and content that give power into the hands of consumers will continue to be effective.

Often, the P&L statement is necessary for investors to understand how much investments in this company can be profitable. Yes, and it is useful to know whether their enterprise is making profit or works in a minus. 
 
P& L-statement is data on how much the company has earned and how much it spent for the reporting period (for a month, quarter or year). The report is based on the metric P&L (Profit and Loss), which can be both positive and negative. 
 
Features P&L statement: 
⚡️ Information about income and revenue is located at the beginning of the document 
⚡️ Only variable costs are taken into account, without overhead costs 
⚡️ For analysis of the company, gross profit is indicated as a percentage of revenue 
⚡️ To compare the costs of their production with standards in a certain industry, administrative and trade costs are also indicated as a percentage 
⚡️ A separate column is assigned to account for income taxes and interest payments on loans 
⚡️ At the very end they write the meaning of net profit (positive or negative) 
 
Stages of the report:

But this is not the only indicator that allows you to assess the state of the company: the value of EBITDA is important for comparing the company with competitors.

😏 Rule of three wishes for your product's marketing strategy; use them! 
 
Health, wealth and relationships are what people value most. 
 
Every purchase we make is indirectly or directly related to one of these desires. 
 
➡ But how to use this in marketing? 
 
1️⃣What is your client looking for? What result in these three categories does your potential client expect from your product? Answer this question - and you are already halfway to his heart. 
 
2️⃣One product - one desire. Yes, your product can satisfy several desires at once. But this doesn't work in communication. If you try to “score” two goals at once, you risk not scoring a single one. Focus on one desire and increase your chances of success. 
 
3️⃣Even non-obvious products can be tied to desire. Remember the Gillette razor ad: a man, a razor, a beautiful girl and their night on the town. This is not just an ad for a razor. This is an advertisement for a relationship. 
 
As a result, your product or service can always be tied to one of three key desires. This is your starting point.

The formula for calculating the number of installations from the previous post to achieve payback: 
 
Number of downloads = Total development cost / (LTV of one download - cost of acquiring one download) 
 
1️⃣ Total development cost 
The entrepreneur/product manager can take on some of the work. Another point is that this indicator is never equal to zero: we pay either with time or with money. 
 
You can reduce it using the optimal choice of platform (web / mobile / something else), development method (no-code solution, cross-platform application), and the use of AI capabilities - for example, to generate texts, illustrations, requirements, code. 
 
2️⃣ Cost of attracting one download. 
This is a question for marketers, but a creative approach and observation can help here. We solve this problem in the case club. 
 
 
3️⃣ Number of downloads 
Will be limited by market size. 
 
The more expensive the development cost and the higher the acquisition cost, the more downloads you need to get. 
 
If we have already optimized costs from points 1 and 2, and the number of downloads is still high for the selected market, then we can reconsider the idea and recalculate the market size. 
 
For example, for this you can: 
1) Find a problem that is relevant to a larger audience. 
2) Consider monetization not only through subscriptions or refuse subscriptions altogether. 
3) Find a less competitive market. But here you need to be careful - sometimes this signals that you won’t make money in such a market.

Such a mind game helps to evaluate the idea at the zero stage and choose the most viable option.

Quick without detailed calculations - yes. This can be done on your knees.

👑The value that the system provides must be a multiple of the cost of maintaining it 
 
I've always loved creating systems. For planning, tracking time and finances, maintaining balance in life. And most of these systems collapsed very quickly. 
 
I believe that moving from one-time chaotic actions to building systems/processes is a very important step that leads to exponential growth. This step is great for developing your head, teaching you to go beyond the boundaries, to look wider and further. 
 
🔖But there is an important point - the system should not be too complex and expensive 
 
I've seen a lot of people create hellishly complex systems for themselves. And I did it myself :) 
 
— Financial accounting with 20 labels and categories 
— Scheduling tasks in 15 minute increments 
— 8 to-do lists for different tasks (yes, I don’t like GTD-like systems) 
 
All this leads to one cycle: a person makes a complex system for himself, spends a couple of days with enthusiasm, then gets tired, gets lost and does not return to the system, because maintaining it requires a lot of effort. 
 
🔵The main problem here is that a person does not feel value from the system, so he sees no point in engaging with it 
 
My thesis: the system should be as simple as possible. And the value from the system should briefly exceed the cost of maintaining it. Only then will the system work: 
 
— One to-do list 
— Accounting for finances in general amounts, without details 
— Calendar with time slots 
 
A system is always created for some purpose. And this goal can be achieved by reducing the degree of work from 90%, for example, to 20-30%. 
 
The simpler the system is, the better and faster you will see its value. Or you won’t see it, then you can try another system. 
 
Again we try to test everything with minimal effort, again a product approach :)
