Don’t get lost in debating: the merits of a political party, leadership qualities of your CEO or how good your firm is. 

The very definition of Capitalism is: "An economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit".  

Work on yourself. 

The world loves criticising the economy of Japan. 

- They point to its slow growth rate.
- Low Inflation.  
- Low stock market & real estate returns. 

But, if you meet Japanese people. Or spend time with them, you will understand the concept of slow living. 

And, why their economy works best for them. 

Japan has an ageing population. They can't keep up with the drama of constantly investing their money to chase higher returns. 

Would old people live their life/focus on their health or go through the drama of constantly beating inflation? 

They don't print crazy money. And, this keeps their inflation (and also the growth rate low). 

The incentive to spend in Japan is really low (so the consumption goes down, and reflects poorly in the economy stats). 

Why? because they have created a self-sufficient economy, where their net imports are off-set by their exports. 

In simple words: unlike most of the world, the Japanese did NOT create an artificial growth (or created very little of it). 

They are focused on helping their elders, consuming mindfully and living in peace.

Why making money is really tough in India nowadays

Here I will give 10 points to why making money is harder in India,

1) Making money requires money.

2) We are not formally taught about money.

3) Money-making requires a combination of different skills.

4) Making money is often a by-product of your circumstances.

5) We are overwhelmed with choices.

6) There is tough access to useful capital and easy access to cheap debt.

7) There are fewer high-paying jobs in India.

8) Managing different income streams and having risk-taking ability is essential.

9) The prevalence of a crab mentality is on the rise.

10) To make money, you need to pivot.

Simple and effective investment pathway for beginners from Akshat Shrivastava.

Wealth creation is slow and steady process.

I lived in Singapore for a few years. 

Every time, I would board a metro, I would see literally 95% glued to their phones. 

This was back in 2014. 

Over the next few years, I saw the same thing happening in India as well. 

Board a metro now-- and you would see almost 90-95%  people glued to their phones. 

People don't like to get bored. 
Phone provides a constant stimulant. 

But, boredom provides an opportunity to engage with your thoughts. And, reflect on the way you think. 

Not getting bored, ever--  is one of the fastest ways to kill creative thinking. 

Phone is an addiction. 

You are losing years of your life, without even realising it.

[1] People don't buy things that are logical. 

[2] People buy things that are aspirational. And makes them feel good. 

[3] In 1776, Jeremy Bentham gave the concept of Psychological hedonism, wherein he explained that:

- Humans act to avoid pain. Or act to gain pleasure. 
- These are the two movers of the human behaviour. 

250 years later, the concept still holds true. 

People buy expensive stuff on loans (which many of them can't afford). 

This is not because of lack of knowledge. 
This is because the short-term pleasure > outweighs any rational arguments. 

I had Dengue. But, I still worked 12 hours. Why? because I had no other option. 

I had to meet certain deadlines. And, there was no way I could push that-- despite knowing that it would impact my health. 

This was a few years back. And, my perspective on hard work & conventional notions about productivity have changed, ever since. 

[1] Even today, if I have to work 20 hours/day, I can. But, that would simply prove that I am unorganised & in-efficient. 

[2] I don’t meditate, very rarely would I wake up before 8 am. 
And, now I watch at least a movie/some TV series every single day. 

For me, the goal of life is not hyper-productivity or money maximisation– but to create and enjoy a slow life. 

[3] Overtime, I have come to realise that if you can control (a) your money (b) your time, you will have a massive control over your life. 

Every decision, I make now is driven by this simple thought process.  

Slow is good. 
Fast is rushed. 

While it is critical that we work hard. Overtime, it is equally critical that we become more efficient. 

And, start building a slow(er) life. 

It is unfortunate that people are working their way to poverty. Consider entry level IT salaries: 

2012: 2.45 Lakhs
2022: 3.55 Lakhs

This salary growth does NOT even beat inflation. 

It is no surprise that the cost of living crisis is crushing people. 

But, every time, I talk about a solution, people tell me a problem. 

For example:- 

[1] If you learn to build a side business, you can easily grow your income by 10%. This would help you deal with the ever rising costs. 

Problem: But, I work 9am-9pm? 

Solution: Use your weekends better. 

[2] If you buy a land, build and construct, you can own a property at half the price (which you will get from a builder). 

Problem: But, buying a land is very tough?  
Scams, and whatnot. 

Solution: Invest time. And, scout better. 

[3] If you learn to invest your own money in the stock market, you will save lakhs of commissions over your investing career. 

Problem: But, that requires so much time. 

Solution: Learn Investing. Not trading. 

See folks: making money has always been tough. Smart  people figure out solutions. Most average people just keep on talking about problems. 

It is your call who you wish to be. 

Do you wish to LEARN and change your life? 
Or do you wish to keep pointing why everything is tough?

The world doesn't pay to complain. 
The world pays to solve problems. 

When I went to INSEAD, I made several friends from Europe. 

I was intrigued to find out: that many of them took breaks from work. Travelled for a year. 'Discovered' and rediscovered themselves. 

And, finally went back to their work once this break was over. 

This was such an alien concept for me: in India, if you leave your job to go travel the world. And, come back after 2 years, most likely you will struggle to get a similar job back. 

But, this was so common place in other countries. 

It made me realise that we as Indians work extremely hard to get jobs, then fight all our life to make that job work, with the hope of living a life someday. 

I wish there were more opportunities than competition, so that more people could have a slightly more easy-going career.

On March 23rd, 2022, I had invested 50 Lakhs LIVE on my YouTube. 

The Index was at 17,000. Today it is at 20,000. 
That's a 17.64% gain in 17 months without taking too much risk.

I am not trying to portray that Stock Investing is easy. 
But, if you are willing to invest time to learn, it is definitely rewarding. 

If you are getting started with Stock investing journey:- 

[1] Learn how to analyse businesses 
[2] Learn how to INVEST (not trade)
[3] Learn when to bulk buy vs SIP 
[4] Learn when to sell stocks 
[5] Study Macroeconomics (so that you can make better thematic investments)

You can never outsource your health management. 
Similarly, you can't outsource your wealth management.

Thanks to all my Teachers, who got me to the point: where I could teach others❤️

Using the lessons, I learnt from them: I'm glad that I've now successfully built a community of 3.5Mn people, who consume my content.

My goal is very simple now: create a community of people, who are able to grow their wealth SUSTAINABLY.

Learning how to manage my money has changed my life.

It has given me freedom to:

- Work from where I want (time freedom)
- Live where I want (location freedom)
- Work as much (& on what projects) I want (money freedom)

I wish the same for everyone.

For kids, all my initiatives are free (and will remain free).

YouTube/Linkedin is simply a medium for me to share whatever I am practically doing in my own life.

Hopefully, it acts as an inspiration for my kids.
The way, my teachers have acted as an inspiration for me.

I had a hard time getting a loan, when I wanted to study abroad. 
I got no loan, when I truly needed one. 

So I worked hard, got a fairly high GMAT, went on scholarship. 

Now, I don't need any loans. But, I keep getting 10 calls a day to take one. 

It is truly unfortunate: that credit is available (most) to people who NEED the least. 

If you make 1 Lakh, live with 50,000, especially when you are young. My wife Ayushi and I did the same, and it has been a game changer for us.

Why?

The salary of top 1% household is 1.1 Lakh/month. But, even if you make this salary, you might still struggle financially as a family of 4 in a big city.

- Education for 2 kids= 12K
- Rent= 35K
- Utilities/Mis= 10K
- Transport= 5K
- Groceries= 15K
- Entertainment=10K

All your salary is gone, in servicing your life.

Folks in their mid-20s might not have similar obligations. 
Smart folks understand that money is fuel.
And, they start planning their life early.

In an unpredictable world, you might never know what you'd want from life next:-

- You might want to start a business
- Might want to take a year off from work or work fewer hours.
- Shift to a smaller city (and take a pay-cut)

We actually ended up doing almost all these things.

So if you are in a position to live frugally-- despite earning well, take advantage!

It can definitely help your family in the long-run.

But all this kicks in, only if you protect you and your family first. 
So definitely buy insurance, especially a health insurance.

There are 8 different types of rich people in the world:

[1] Money Rich= have a lot of money temporarily. Eg. winning a lottery.

[2] Wealth Rich = have multiple pieces of cash flows (income). Well diversified, sustainable.

[3] Time Rich= have a lot of free time.

[4] Health Rich= strong mental and physical health; high energy.

[5] Social (breadth of network) Rich= one-to-many networks. Eg. Social Media Stars. Many people know them.

[6] Depth of network Rich= old relationships, meaningful network, which has been cultivated overtime.

[7] Mindset Rich= very happy with intrinsic abundance; less impacted by external validations.

[8] Skill Rich= can use their skill to convert it into more free time, money, heath, social.

Aim for being overall rich. 

Share this with someone, who needs to understand this rich mindset better. 

[1] 20 years ago, money making skills: 

- Get good degrees. 
- Learn Tech (eg. coding). 
- Invest (Stocks, FD's, Real Estate, all gave returns). 

[2] 10 years ago, money making skills: 

- Exceptional degrees (tier-2/3 colleges started to suffer). 
- Leveraging tech in your business (eg. most companies that became Unicorns in India, leveraged Tech). 
- Picking good Assets within each asset class (eg. within equities, start picking better Mutual Funds/Direct Stocks). 

[3] Money making skills, NOW: 

- Owning portfolio of income streams (not necessarily degrees). 
- Understanding new tech (and building businesses around it). 
- Deeply understanding different asset classes. Rotating your capital within it. 

Like everything else, the investing world (and the money making skills) change too. 

So keep yourself updated!
