Writer and Account Manager

University of Guelph

Working with the editor to meet the deadlines for volumes 39 and 40, I recruited a dozen academic writers and researchers to review recent publications for the journal. I edited, revised, and proofread each review in order to meet strict publication standards. I also published my own book review in volume 39, and created a database of potential contributors to the journal for future editors to recruit them more systematically.

Book Review Editor, International Review of Scottish Studies

As a teaching assistant I engaged 120 undergraduate students over three semesters, mentoring 40 at any given time. I led two weekly seminars with 20 students enrolled in each one, both at freshman and sophomore levels. I guided them through course material, demonstrated how to manage their project deadlines, and graded written assignments, such as term essays and examinations. I also worked closely with the supervising professors and library staff to devise and implement assignments appropriate to the skill levels of each class.

I assisted a professor of American History in procuring and organizing material for a new class, "The History of Terrorism in America." This included finding primary sources, organizing them into reading material appropriate for a sophomore level, and crafting discussion questions for the professor to use in seminars.
