Hi! Thanks for visiting my profile! A bit about me: I'm a former educator and dog/toddler mom who is passionate about equity in the workplace. I love to be outdoors except when it's super hot, I'm a foodie who hates cheese, and I like cooking, politics, and travel. I have a full time job managing the business recruiting team at Zapier, and also love creating content on recruiting and workplace culture. All opinions are my own and do not reflect those of my employer! If you'd like to work at Zapier, please apply directly on our jobs page. I do not have the capacity to respond to DMs or answer one-off questions but DO answer reader questions and offer free 1:1 chats via my newsletter. One of the most political statements I see on this platform is, "I don't talk politics". People making entire posts dedicated to performative neutrality. One post involved a man declaring that he "loved" a founder of a successful company, but was unfollowing her due to her posts on DEI and politics which don't belong here. Another was that they keep their mouths shut because they don't care where the money comes from and talking about politics could impact their business. These folks could quietly unfollow, they could simply not engage in political content, but instead, they are making public declarations of their "neutrality". And in doing so, what they are actually saying is: "I believe DEI has no place in the professional world." "I believe equity and inclusion are controversial topics, but profit, bias, and exclusion aren't." "I believe we should prioritize profits over people." "I believe the current system works really well for someone like me, so I don't really see a reason to critique the system - instead, I will critique those who challenge the system." "I believe that people's political beliefs are a valid reason not to give them business or work with them." "I believe human rights are political." None of this is neutral. You can engage in performative neutrality all day long, but the message is loud and clear, and it's some of the most political content I've seen on this platform.
