Why GPT 4.1 isn’t just an upgrade, it’s a whole new mindset for prompting.🔥 Just finished diving into OpenAI’s official Prompting Guide for GPT-4.1, and it’s clear they’ve been listening closely to developers this time around. A few things stood out: 🧠 GPT 4.1 follows instructions to the letter. No more hand wavy prompting. Be clear, be direct, and this model will execute like a top-tier engineer. 🔁 It’s built for agentic workflows. Think autonomous task execution with persistent memory, tool use, and planning baked in. (If you’re not adding persistence + planning + tool use prompts, you’re leaving performance on the table.) ⚙️ OpenAI really wants you to use the tools field in the API, not DIY prompt-hacking. They’ve optimized the model to understand structured tool usage better than ever. 🧩 Chain-of-thought prompting still works wonders, especially when debugging, coding, or reasoning over long contexts. But now it’s more about getting the model to plan like an agent, not just explain itself. 📏 Long-context? This thing eats 1M tokens for breakfast. But prompt placement still matters, they recommend sandwiching your instructions at the top and bottom. All in all, GPT 4.1 feels like OpenAI wants us stop treating this like a chatbot. Build with it like it’s your co-pilot. If you’re building agents, coding copilots, or anything remotely complex, this doc is gold.
