Over the last decade, I’ve had panic attacks on two 2 continents, seen 4 different therapists, and taken thousands of antidepressants. It all started in the spring of 2016 when I had the most terrifying 48 hours of my life. → First panic attack. → First antidepressant prescription → First therapy appointment. All of which ended with me being too scared to leave my house for 9 days. As a male in my late 20’s, I wasn’t equipped to handle any of it. → I stopped exercising and was rapidly losing weight. → I put distance between myself and those closest to me. → I bailed on every plan I made. Like most men, I wasn’t ready to be vulnerable. But unlike most men, I didn’t want to stay silent about my mental health journey. I wasn’t a mental health expert or a therapist so I only had one story to tell, my own. After struggling for years, sharing my own story online removed the power my anxiety had over me and helped lift the weight I had been carrying for years. Every comment, message, and DM gave me the confidence to keep going. After almost a decade of trying anything to help fix myself (including drinking 100+ beers a month), I’ve been able to overcome my anxiety and accomplish things I once thought weren’t possible; → Husband to an amazing wife for 5+ years. → Father to an incredible son for 2+ years. → Excel at a career without working overtime. I’m a Panic Attack Professional. Oh and that tight feeling in your chest? It’s ok, I get it too.
