Collaborated with Unison Board to relay annual and quarterly budgets, P&L statements, and revenue updates. Maintained strong organizational NPS during 18 months of rapid growth.

•	Accelerated annual revenue to over $65MM, which was 160% growth, by building a 53-member national sales team responsible for all direct sales revenue.

Ascendify

Composed Sales and Success strategies, which played a vital role in professional development, leading to both the Sales Representative and Success Representative team growing by 400%. Designed the Employee Culture Council, which was responsible for employee morale, professional development, and networking events.

Created a 40-person Retention Sales team proficient in consumer behavior, industry landscape, and behavior business coaching skills.

•	Increased accumulative retention to 86% within one year by restructuring success strategies. 
•	Served as the co-chair of Demandforce Employee Engagement Council, which was responsible for employee morale, professional development, workplace events, and employee network building.

Story time!! 

Sitting in my office last week, I closed my laptop and sat back, thinking the day was over.

Then my phone buzzed.

A former teammate from years ago had sent me a message.

She remembered a single conversation we had standing in the kitchen at work when we were both running on fumes.

I was in a rush that day.

Coffee in one hand, laptop in the other with a head full of task to do.

But she looked overly exhausted, so I stopped, asked her how she was really doing, and just listened.

No sales targets, no pipeline talk, just two colleagues having an honest moment.

Years later, that was the moment she remembered.

Not the big wins.

Not the revenue milestones.

Not the performance reviews.

But a 5 minute chat over coffee.

It got me thinking.

You never know what interaction or moment people will remember you by.

This makes me try and strive for 2 things every day:

→ Be impeccable with my word.

→ Always leave people better than I found them.

It’s easy to focus on numbers, dashboards, and the next email thread screaming for attention.

But in my entire career, the most lasting impact usually isn’t the deal that closed at 11th hour.

But the reality is, assembling a high performing team of senior talent is not just about hiring resumes with 20 years of experience.

Building a team of veterans that actually works requires a few moves:

𝗗𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗴𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿.
→ Senior talent often comes with strong opinions and battle scars.
→ Your job is not to suppress them, but to channel them toward a shared goal.

𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆.
→ Experienced folks hate micromanagement but crave clarity on objectives.
→ Spell out the vision and let them run with it.

→ Senior people know the ropes, but not your ropes.
→ Invest the same energy onboarding a 25year veteran as you would a grad hire.

𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.
→ Silos get built fastest by people who “already know how it’s done.”
→ Build cross functional projects from day one. 

𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁.
→ Senior folks bounce back with more speed if they know it’s safe to try and break things.

𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱.
→ Pros want to see progress, not just praise.
→ Transparency in results and feedback keeps the game competitive.

𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗹𝘂𝗲.
→ No amount of experience can fix a toxic environment.
→ Make culture the foundation, not an afterthought.

𝗣𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁.
→ Don’t just hire senior people who think like you.
→ The best ideas come from respectful friction.


A team of experienced people is not a shortcut to success. It’s a commitment to continuous evolution. It’s about blending wisdom with humility and curiosity.

Skip these steps, and you’ll spend your days settling turf wars instead of breaking records.

But get it right?

You’ll have a team that not only wins... but wants to win together.

If you think being a CRO means just chasing numbers, you’re missing the plot. Every morning, before my first email, I run through the same checklist. 

3 things I have to think about every single day: 

𝟭. 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲.

Can my team win today? Are they set up for success or are they fighting through broken processes and clunky tech? I check for bottlenecks—then I ask, how can I clear them? Because no one ever closed a deal while buried under admin. 

𝟮. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁.

You can’t set it and forget it. Are we still solving the right problems for our customers? Is our approach stuck in last quarter’s logic while the market has already moved on? I dig for signs that we’re drifting from our North Star. If we are, I course correct. 

𝟯. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲.

Sales isn’t just about quotas, it’s about belief. Does my team feel they matter? Is recognition public and feedback private? Are we building a place where people actually want to stay? I’ve seen more revenue lost to toxic culture than to bad leads or weak pipelines. 

𝗦𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗱𝗼: 
- Talk to people, not just dashboards.
- Listen for what’s not said in meetings.
- Ask what’s getting in their way. 


If you lead sales or revenue, here’s my challenge: Next time you open your laptop, start with these three things. The numbers will follow. What’s the first thing you check every day?

Lots of new role changes happening right now. 

Stepping into a new role is difficult. 

I believe there is absolutely a method for success or failure when doing so. Having just stepped into a new leadership role myself it made me reflect on my approach and where I think folks get it really wrong. 

Here’s where most leaders trip up: 

1. They talk more than they listen. 

2. They “fix” things before they understand them. 

3. They try to impress instead of connect. 

4. They hide behind authority when challenged. 

5. They focus on results, not relationships. 

The irony? 

The fastest way to drive results is to focus on relationships first. Trust is a force multiplier. It’s the difference between a team that “complies” and a team that “commits.” 

If you're joining a new team, don’t assume trust is yours. Earn it. Ask questions. Listen so hard it feels uncomfortable. Admit when you’re wrong. Show up. Again, and again.

What if burning your boats is the only way to truly win?

I'm sure you're thinking "Tutt we've heard the Viking Boat burning thing dude". I know that and I even wrote a LI article about it myself years ago. 

But the last few weeks I've had several conversations with folks that are growing business and teams and they have plans with 3 different contingency's for each one. 

I honestly just cant wrap my head around that. 

Also I understand so many people in business are told to keep our options open. To hedge. To have a back up.

Well if that's the right move..... then why do the biggest breakthroughs come right after someone makes a move they can’t undo?

I’ve seen it, and done it, time and time again.

The moment when your team or company commits so fully, there’s no turning back.

The mood changes. People step up.

Suddenly, the focus sharpens. Excuses disappear.

To me, burning your boats isn’t just about confidence. It’s about pressure.

It’s about forcing yourself and your team to adapt or fail.

I like to ask myself:
→ I'm I, building bridges or burning boats?

→ I'm I, creating backup plans that sap team energy from the real mission?

→ Is my team operating with one eye on the exit?

Every time I’ve had extraordinary results, it was because we decided to get uncomfortable.

To stop playing it safe. To remove the fallback.

But to be honest, the fear is real.
What if it doesn’t work?
What if you can’t pull it off?
What if the safety net was all that kept you from disaster?

Yet, maybe that’s the point.

Without the option to retreat, you find out what you and your team are really made of.
You stop asking “What if we fail?”
And you start asking “What do we need to do to succeed?”

Just a thought.
