- Increased the usage of existing Out of Box (ML) Models in Customer Insights by monitoring
customer usage and product telemetry to inform our roadmap and develop new features.

I'm a Product Manager with experience working cross-functionally with business roles (e.g. Marketing, Finance, Sales), technical roles (e.g. Backend and front-end engineers, data scientists) as well as designers and UX researchers to bring products to life that make our users' problems and pain-points go away!

I have experience working with Web and Mobile products, AI and Machine Learning - There's something really fascinating about using data to try and predict the future. I'm a big believer that every model should be thoroughly thought from an AI Ethics point of view.

- I'm passionate about understanding customers, too many people use "customer obsession" as buzzwords in their resume.

- I leave the BIG ideas to the Elon Musks of the world. A good Strategy, Vision and Execution drives products forward - I do these three.

- I'm an engineer at heart and a musician at soul - I like to combine logic with creativity

When I was looking for a job last year, this message got me more responses from recruiters than any other I’ve used before👇



When I had to find a new job las year, I looked for ways to speed up the process of getting my resume reviewed among the hundreds of applicants for the same job. 

At the time I couldn’t simply rely on referrals from employees at other companies - referrals usually take a long time and they rarely work (at least for me). 

So instead of applying to jobs and waiting or  looking for referrals that rarely work for me, this is what I did:
- Applied for roles where I was a good fit
- Searched for recruiters from that company
- Messaged 5~7 sharing WHY I’m a good fit
- Repeat the process for another company

Here are all the steps in detail 👇

1️⃣ Apply to roles where you are a good fit

I prepared a resume for each type of role that I knew I was a good fit for. In my case, I had a role focused on AI&ML and another one on consumer products.

To tailor my resume for each of these I looked for 10+ roles in that category and used the common terms and keywords to add them to my accomplishments. 

After I applied, I also made sure that I wrote down the Job ID - we’ll share this with recruiters.


2️⃣ Search for Recruiters on LinkedIn

After I applied to a job, I would go on LinkedIn to find recruiters for that company:
- Search for the company page
- Click on the “People” tab
- Search for “Recruiter”, sometimes bigger companies have “Technical Recruiters” hire PMs

And then, find 5~7 Recruiters. Since you won’t know which one is hiring for the role you applied to, prioritized them using different criteria:
A) Those that have been active in at least the last 2 months (look at their profile to see)
B) Those with purple banner (#hiring)
C) Those that you don’t need InCredits to message them (click on their profile and try to send a message - should say it’s free)


3️⃣ Share WHY you are a good fit

This is the structure of the message I sent to recruiters: 
- quick into about myself
- the role I applied to
- call to action
- 5 reasons WHY I’m a good fit

“Hi [recruiter],

My name is [your name] and I’m currently a [role] at [company]. 

I found a role at [their company] that I believe I’m a good fit for and I recently apply. The role is [job title + ID].

I understand you might not be the right point of contact for this role, but in wondering if you could share my profile with the right team.

I’ve been applying and I’m hoping that I get an opportunity soon. I understand you are very busy, so thank you so much for your help!

[your name]

Here’s why I believe I’m a good fit for the role:
- [reason 1 from your experience RELATED to required/basic qualifications of the job]
- [repeat 4 more times]”

Now all you have to do is copy/paste the message to other recruiters and repeat for each job.

This is how you can stand out in your interviews and get an offer. It sounds simple, but most people fail at it 👇


Standing out in your interviews has nothing to do with:
- Frameworks
- Impresive success metrics
- Knowing 'everything' about the company

Standing out is all about Storytelling:
- Structure
- Relevance
- Depth

Let's get into the details of each one:

🔷 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞

There are many frameworks to structure your answers, like the S.T.A.R. + Lesson one. However, structure has nothing to do with which framework you use.

Structure helps you communicate effectively, but memorizing word by word makes you sound like a robot.

Structure is about 3 things:
- Concise... i.e., get to the point!
- Organized... when you describe actions talk in lists (first I did..., then I went, next I...)
- About you... Less about the context and more time about what YOU did

Structure is the backbone of your entire story.


🔷 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞

You might have incredible accomplishments, but if they are not 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 to the job you are interviewing for, they will be less impactful than you think.

Being relevant in your stories is showing that you:
- Understand the job really well and
- You can do the job really well

For example, in a PM interview when you talk about finding data to solve a customer problem, focus less on how you found the data, complexity of systems or query you used, the technical constraints or how you presented the data. Instead, focus more on:
- Why did the customer had that problem?
- How did you use the data to help you arrive to a decision? (mention a few technical things)
- How did you use your findings to convince others?
- How did solving that problem contributed to the team/company?

Your stories are built for your interviewers, not for you. Your greatest accomplishment might not be that great if it's not relevant to the job you are interviewing for.


🔷 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐡

Depth is all about giving enough evidence to support your stories and show that you can do the job. 

When I ask people a question like "Tell me about a time you had a conflict" their story can be summarized as:
- Too much context about the company, product or people involved
- A very short section where they understood the other person, sat down to chat and 'understood where they are coming from'
- All is good now, learned about empathy

Interviewers don't ask these questions to see whether you've had conflicts in the past (or any question they ask). They want to learn HOW you approach these situations - A conflict is not solved, in most cases, by just having 1 conversation. If you've had a conflict you probably...
- Understood the 'WHY?' behind the other person's opinion
- Gather information and data that would help you build a case
- Presented your case/solution to convince them

Share a lot more about what you did and how you did it, and less about the context of the situation.

How can you transition into an AI&ML Product Manager role with or without technical experience? 3 actionable ways 👇



Being an AI&ML Product Manager is much more than understanding how to create prompts for GenAI Models, or knowing that ML models create predictions. A big part of the job of an AI&ML PM job is to understand the data science lifecycle - from understanding where the data is sourced, how is it cleaned and treated, all the way to predictions, metrics, legal, and ethics.

Here are 3 things you can do that will give you skills and experience in machine learning 👇 

1️⃣ Building a public portfolio on Kaggle

Kaggle is a fantastic resource for learning and practicing Machine Learning. They offer free practical classes to learn the basics of Python programming and Machine Learning programming. They also have open competitions that you can use to practice your knowledge in ML.

Just like engineers have a public Github repository to share their projects and experience, you can share your public free Notebooks in Kaggle to show your experience with ML projects - this can go in your resume

Here's what you can do:
→ Take their free classes to learn how to build ML models
→ Participate in competitions (even if they expired) to practice
→ After enough practice, find real problems around you and solve them like a Product Manager + AI. In other words, don't just throw numbers and a model into your notebook. Talk about users, interview them, share your hypothesis, build a prototype (ML prototype), etc.


2️⃣ Participate in AI&ML Hackathons

Here's one hackathon opportunity you cannot miss!
Liam Bolling's team at Google (Gemini) is hosting a virtual Hackathon where you'll have the chance to win $50,000, you'll meet with the Gemini team and, the best part, you don't need to know how to code! (until May 3rd 2024)

Approach this hackathon like a PM would: 
- What problem are you solving?
- Why are you solving this problem and why now?
- How can you solve this problem using Gemini, in a way that is better than the alternative?

3️⃣ Consider studying a Master's Program

Whether we like it or not, Master's degree >>>>>> Coursera certification (or other short-term certification).

There are many M.S. in Computer/Data science that will give you theoretical and experiential knowledge about models. These programs will also allow you to access their recruitment opportunities and meet recruiters who are looking for people experienced in AI&ML, including Product Managers.

Some programs are very affordable - I did an M.S.C.S. at Georgia Tech (virtual) and it was way more affordable than an MBA or most other programs.

→ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲: Start by changing 1 hour of TV every week for working on a side project, it'll change your life. 

→ 𝐃𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 >>>𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭: When I started creating content I knew nothing about making videos, writing posts or building side projects. Now I see all these "how to 100x your followers" and most are BS - no better school than rolling up your sleeves and starting.

→ 𝐒𝐚𝐲 𝐲𝐞𝐬... 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐭: Most of the best opportunities I've had (and taken!) were because someone asked me to participate in X. Even if I had no clue how to do it I would just jump into the opportunity and learn along the way.

→ 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭: My first YouTube video is so bad, but without it I wouldn't be here 🙏. I just started filming with my phone, I had no idea about equipment, or editing. People ask me if I had a masterplan to become a creator - I had no clue what I was doing back then.

→ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝: I knew I wanted to help others break into tech and Product Management, and as an immigrant I couldn't earn money. I did it out of passion and it was hard to find someone to talk with to understand the struggles I was going through. Now I built a support network (friends, family, others your meet online).

→ 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠... 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲... 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞... 𝐝𝐚𝐲: It has made me a better content creator, a better Product Manager, and a better communicator overall. You learn to grab people's attention (it's why you are still here reading 😉). Write something, anything, every day!

Here's one thing you can do today in 10 minutes to improve your Product Sense and be ready for a PM interview 👇



Product Sense is the typical PM interview question like "How would you improve X product?".

🛑 A BAD answer is when candidates improve products from their perspective
🔶 An OK answer is when they follow a framework and fix existing problems with the product
🟢 A GREAT answer is when they can:
- Understand the Goal
- Put themselves in the shoes of customers
- Understand their pain points
- Improve with innovative features
- Measure the success of their creation

Here's what you can do to get to a GREAT answer by practicing for 10 minutes 

1️⃣ Choose an app
Open your phone and go to the last page... you know, where you throw those apps that you've used once, maybe twice ever but you keep them 'just in case'. Pick one of them.

2️⃣ Who uses the app?
Think of 2~3, different personas that might use the app... students? teachers? travelers? pick one of them - this is a quick exercise and we don't have any data to make a proper decision. Avoid age range and proficiency (e.g., medium users who are between 25 and 35 years old)

🧠 You want to get used to quickly thinking about segments, or "Who uses this product?"


3️⃣ What problems do they have?
Think of the product space and the users you chose. What problems would they have? 
For example, the product space for a rental-car app is not a problem with the app itself like "It doesn't save my preferences". The product space is that you need to move from point A to point B in a vehicle you drive - think of problems with the problem space, not with the app.

Think of 2~3 problems.

🧠 You want to get used to quickly thinking about user problems. Repetition will help you see patterns in your segments.


4️⃣ How would you solve these problems?
Brainstorm 2 types of solutions:
- Incremental: Think of something that enhances the existing app, perhaps an improvement on an existing feature.
- Moonshot: Think of something very BIG. Something that you know might be unreachable at the moment that SOLVES the problems you chose.

🧠 You want to get used to thinking BIG in an interview and show your creativity.


5️⃣ Measuring Success:
What are 2 metrics you would use to know whether your solution works? Your metric has to translate into a number so avoid things like "# of people watching + delta between engagement and shared / ratio of likes"

Use simple metrics like "# of new users", "Avg. watch time", or "Click-Through Rate (CTR)".

🧠 No product/feature is launched without understanding how will this be successful and you want to show that expertise in your interviews.

This is the framework that I use to answer Product Design questions in PM interviews, and why it is the best one 👇



These questions can come in the form of:
- new products: “How would you design a a new alarm clock for a blind person?”
- improving products: “How would you improve your favorite product?”

The framework I use and teach is called the STEP framework because it follows a series of logical steps that mimic what PMs do in our day to day.

🔵 STEP Framework 🔵

These are the steps:
- Clarifying questions
- Goal
- Users
- Pain Points
- Features
- Prioritization
- Metrics

Let’s dive into them:

🔹 Clarifying questions

These should help you narrow down the scope of the problem. You can always ask:
- Which company are we?
- Are there any constraints?

If they ask you “design a new product for a kitchen” you can ask “is this a kitchen for homes, schools, hospitals or somewhere else?” 

Narrow down the scope.


🔹 GOAL

The goal is the main pillar of your case. All the products and features are tied to goals, and goals are tied to metrics.

For example, a Goal can be to increase number of users, or increase engagement.

On the job you’ll have different goals, in an interview pick one.


🔹 Users

Pick 3 users, and don’t classify them by age or expertise (e.g., men 25-35 years old who are experts on the product).

Instead, think of users based on their characteristics like: young professional who enjoyed traveling.

It’s easier to brainstorm pain points for the latter.


🔹 Pain Points

Products and features are not built because “they would be cool”. 

Brainstorm 3 pain points related to the problem space, not with the product. For example, if you were to improve Spotify think of problems that fans may have related to listening to their favorite artists, not problems with a Spotify feature.

🔹Solutions

Your solutions should meet this criteria:
- Aligned with the Goal
- Should solve all pain points
- Ideally, have one moonshot idea
- Aligned with the company’s strategy

To that last point, your ideas should ‘make sense’ with the company. For example, ‘lowering prices’ or ‘building kitchen products’ would not go very well with improving something for Apple - they are all about premium and ecosystem.


🔹 Prioritizing

Prioritizing on the job is never easy. There’s data that you need, input from many stakeholders, customer feedback, etc.

In an interview, we can use at least two variables:
- impact (to the Goal)
- effort

For each feature choose Low/Med/High for these variables and rank the features.


🔹Metrics

There are three levels of metrics you should consider in an interview:

- North Star: your Goal
- Signposts: metrics that show that your feature contributed to the Goal (e.g., for a video feature you’ll measure “avg. watch time”)
- Guardrails: metrics that protect the business like “Revenue”

Here's what I've learned after doing more than 500 coffee chats with both aspiring and current Product Managers, including a CEO and a millionaire👇


1️⃣ Aspiring PM - Never lie on your resume
They changed their titles to Product Lead and Product Manager. Got interviews and failed all of them because they didn't have real PM experience.

2️⃣ PM - Not every PM job is what's described in books. Do your research!
On paper, they have an amazing job at a top tech company. In reality, they are mostly working on updating slides with ETAs and resolutions to support cases. They moved there because of what they read in the job description + the company name... do your research!

3️⃣ Aspiring PM - Frameworks are there to help, not to memorize them word by word
They could answer every basic PM question like "How would you improve X?" but as soon as the problem changed a bit like "How would you better monetize X?" they froze. They went from amazing answers to mediocre responses and it showed that they memorized frameworks and answers, but didn't understand the concepts of the framework (i.e., how to think like a PM).

4️⃣ CEO - Never stop learning and never stop being curious
He is ~60 years old and has been at his niche-tech company for the past 30 years. One day he got invited to interview a product lead at a company 10X his company's size and decided to reach out to me and I helped him get a job at the company. Every day I aspire to have his energy, enthusiasm and hunger for constantly learning new things.

5️⃣ PM - Networking is a two-way street
They spent a month messaging every recruiter, PM, and hiring manager they could find at their dream company. When I saw the message I understood why it didn't work. Most of their communication was about their needs: "Can you help me find a job?", "Can you refer me?", "Can you review my resume?". Networking should be about building connections, not asking for things right away.

6️⃣ Millionaire - Follow your passion, regardless of your success
He started tech companies and sold them, then again and again. He retired early. His passion was to build products and he wanted to do it at a company that aligned with his values but he had never applied to a job (always a founder). It was incredible to teach him from building his resume & LinkedIn, to networking and preparing for interviews. He didn't have to work but he couldn't shake the feeling of having to follow his passion of building products that matter.

7️⃣ Everyone - Sometimes all we need is a friend to listen to us
After 500+ coffee chats, I realized that some are very transactional... reviewing resumes, LinkedIn, or Mock interviews. But the majority of the calls are about listening... Listening to their frustrations, pain, and struggles... and helping them build a plan they can pursue and accomplish.

These 8 tips I received when I was a new Product Manager are THE BEST advice to progressing my career, and I continue using them to this day 👇



1️⃣ 𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 "𝐖𝐡𝐲?"

Asking questions helps you understand the context and encourages your team to reaffirm or rethink their goals. 

Questions like "Why are we building X?" can uncover cases where the team lacks clarity about their objectives.


2️⃣ 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬

Building strong relationships with your team, partners, and others in the organization is vital to the success of your products. 

Don't just focus on documents – spend as much time as you can connecting and engaging with those around you.

As a new PM, it's easy to feel like you must say "yes" to everything that comes your way. 

However, your job as a Product Manager is to ruthlessly prioritize tasks so you and your team know exactly what to build, why, and how to do it efficiently.

Focus on securing small wins that will help you build trust with your team and showcase your skills and experience.

Embrace data to understand your product better, learn how customers are using it, and uncover new opportunities for improvement. 

Incorporate data into conversations, documents, and questions to make informed decisions.


7️⃣ 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞, 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 

As a PM, it's essential to influence without authority. This is achieved by understanding the context around you and actively listening to customers, teams, and stakeholders. 

So, pay attention and let their insights guide your decisions.


8️⃣ 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 

Experience your product as a first-time user, even if it's something technical like APIs. Break it apart, find bugs, and document everything you see. 

Revisiting these notes later will help you maintain a fresh perspective on the user experience.
