As the Growth Strategist behind Mindvalley's VSL funnel, I played a pivotal role in scaling revenue to $35M per year through Video Sales Letter campaigns. Leveraging my know-how in systems building, I've transformed how we produce and iterate on winning VSLs to sustain performance.

Here's how I made an impact:

- Oversaw the entire process of Mindvalley's Video Sales Letter campaigns, contributing to $35M per year in revenue through direct response marketing strategies.
- Enhanced Average Order Value (AOV) by implementing refined conversion rate optimization (CRO) techniques across Video Sales Letter funnels.
- Build a production, testing and tracking system that allowed us to test over 1000 video variations to find winning ads

My first job was not only a crash course in logistics and heavy lifting but also a profound education in hard work. 

Yes, I was a one-man beer brigade, delivering precious payloads of beer to pubs.

Here's what I mastered:

- Driving like a Pro: From trucks to forklifts, if it had wheels, I was wheeling it.
- Kegology 101: Ever wrestle with a 70kg beer keg? Let's just say I'm undefeated.

After three years working outside hotel marketing, I've been part of teams that generated over $50M in revenue from significant ad investments.

The dynamics in that kind of environment can be applied to hotel marketing as well.

From that lens, here is how I would approach my hotel marketing:

1. Identify the most profitable guest segments
Most profitable means: high repeat booking rate, high revenue per stay, high revenue on extras, ...

2. Look for patterns
These guests will have some patterns in common such as: country of origin, age range, families, couples, etc.

3. Based on those findings, set strategic goals
Now that you know the most profitable segments, set strategic goals with clear KPIs to observe.
For example: "Increase the % of stays from segment X by 10% this winter season"

4. Figure out how to reach these segments
Ask questions such as:
- How can we start interacting with more of these people?
- How can we get them interested in our hotel?
- How can we best reach them?

5. Create an amazing offer that targets this segment:
This is where you need to get creative to stand out from all the different competing options. To do this:
- Get clear of what this target segment is seeking during their holiday (Tip: talk more to existing guests from this segment)
- Build out an enticing package (please don't just create a 3=4 nights offer)

6. Launch your ad and e-mail campaigns and monitor KPIs
Keep adjusting to see what works and what doesn't.

And most important: Be patient with the results, it will take a while.

Remember that booking a holiday is not an impulse buy, you need to get on the map first.

Hotel Marketing is a long-term game. 
 
But most hotels miss out on 95% of their potential market. 
 
Running some magic keywords on Google Ads will NOT fill your rooms within two days. 
 
This results in relying too much on Google Ads, which only attracts bookings from people already planning their next vacation. 
 
A short-term mindset combined with pure focus on "generating instant revenue" is a poor marketing strategy. 
 
Booking a holiday is not an impulse buy. 
 
Ideally, your potential guests will never need to find you on Google Ads.  
 
Because they will think about only your hotel whenever the holiday decision comes up.  
 
That's what you want to build. 
 
You need to be "Top of Mind" to become the first option for a potential guest. 
 
And to be top of mind, you need a strategy that you'll stick to for longer than two weeks.

Hotel marketing needs less of:


- Inauthentic happy couples
- What are my competitors doing?
- We are working on our new website for the past 2 years!
- Which keywords do we use to generate instant bookings
- Weak offers and packages that are disguised as something valuable while they are not

Instead, hotel marketing needs more of:

- How can we start interacting today with potential guests of tomorrow?
- What kind of experiences can I create for my guest that they will tell everyone about?
- How can we create packages and offers that are too good to say no to? (Note: 4 for 3 is not one of them)
- How can we be "Top of Mind" in our ideal guest's mind so they will reach out to us once they plan their travels?
- What does our ideal guest really care about and how can we communicate that?
- How can we not sound and look like everyone of our competitors?

The key is:
Strategy first, tactics second.
