A couple years ago I dropped out of college while pursuing my dream of becoming a nurse. It wasn't just a hard decision - it was the kind that splits your life into before and after.

My father passed away unexpectedly. One moment I was highlighting anatomy terms, the next I was staring at words that had lost all meaning. 

While my friends memorized medical terms and practiced patient care, I couldn't remember the last time I'd eaten a full meal. My bedroom ceiling became more familiar than my textbooks. The weight of guilt pressed against my chest with each breath - guilt for not being a perfect daughter.

The shame followed me like a shadow. "When are you going back to finish your degree?" They meant well, but each time they asked, it felt like another crack in my foundation. They couldn't see that sometimes survival means stepping away from the path you thought you'd take.

I'm sharing this now because someone needs to hear it: Life's detours aren't failures. They're moments that reshape us. Your worth isn't measured by the the speed at which you reach your goals. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is listen to the voice inside that says "not now."

To anyone carrying the weight of paused dreams: You're not behind. You haven't failed.

And here's what I learned: It's okay to take that break. To step back. To breathe. But when you're ready - when the fog starts to lift and your strength returns - get back up. Not because they expect you to, but because you know you can. Show them that your pause wasn't your end; it was your preparation for something even greater.

Goals are selfish.



We all have them..
“I want to be successful.”
“I want to be rich.”
“I want to travel the world.”

And for a while, those goals can fuel you.
There’s nothing wrong with setting goals…But when they’re only about you, they’ll eventually feel empty. Michael Phelps. Dozens of gold medals. Olympic glory. The highest level of success a human being can achieve. And he faced severe depression after Beijing. I've realized goals are just a starting point. They get you moving. But purpose is what keeps you going. No, goals aren’t bad. But if they don’t lead you toward serving someone else a person, a community, a cause they lose their weight fast. What gives our life purpose only comes from doing for another. Because real purpose isn’t found in what you get. It’s found in what you give. In using what you’ve built to lift someone else. To open a door they couldn’t open alone. That’s what service is. I still set goals. But now I ask myself different questions:
Who does this serve?
Whose life could this make better?
How can I use what I’ve been given to give back?

That’s what turns hustle into legacy.
