Every week, I volunteer with Girlguiding.

I work with a brilliant group of girls who are all different and finding their way.

 Some are confident. Some are quiet. Some don’t quite believe in themselves yet.

And I get to watch them grow.
To see them speak up when they were once silent.
To try new things, take the lead, and help each other.

It’s honestly the best part of my week.

And what’s surprised me the most is how much I’ve grown, too:
→ I’ve become more patient
 → I listen better
 → I’m more open

You don’t need to join an organisation to make a difference.

 Just look around.

There’s always someone who could use a bit of time, care, or encouragement.

Helping others doesn’t require anything extraordinary, just the decision to show up for them.

I thought feeling miserable at work was just part of being an adult.

I graduated into a pandemic and somehow landed what looked like a “great” job.

It paid well. There was a clear career path. The company had a name people recognised.

But I hated it.

Every day, and even the evenings after, felt like a long, stressful slog. I felt flat and disconnected, and started to wonder if this was just how work is meant to feel. Something you push through, not enjoy.

A few years later, everything looks different.

I started making content on the side. That turned into a genuine interest in personal branding.

Now I’m a brand manager.

The work can still be intense at times, but the days go fast and I feel like myself in the work. That alone makes a huge difference.

It’s not about finding a “dream job”.

It’s about doing something that actually fits you.

If your job constantly drags you down, maybe it’s not you.
Maybe it’s time to change direction.

A lot of people talk about personal branding like it’s something you build from scratch.

But most of it comes from what you’ve already done.

🌻 I studied German and moved to Germany in my early 20s.
🌻 I’ve been a Girlguiding volunteer for over 12 years.
🌻 I worked in translation and consulting before moving into marketing.

None of it felt connected at the time.

But looking back, those experiences shaped what I know and became the starting point for what I began sharing here.

Your personal brand doesn’t need to follow a formula.

It just needs to reflect where you’ve come from, what you’ve learned, and what matters to you.

Here’s what I’ve found useful:

→ Don’t leave out the parts that make your path different
→ Talk in your own voice, not like a brochure
→ Share what shaped you, not just your job title

You don’t need to be impressive.

You just need to be your authentic self

The learning curve is steep. You’ll be pushed to figure out new skills and tackle tasks way outside your comfort zone. It’s daunting, but the growth is insane when you embrace it.

Startups demand commitment. If you’re not passionate, you’ll struggle. But if you are, it’s one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do.

↳ Every boss I've had literally thanked me for asking them on team calls 🤣, and if you don't understand a concept a client says, speak up.
