I recently shared my perspective on tariffs during an appearance on NTD News Today. Tariffs often get a mixed reaction, but it's essential to understand their strategic purpose. In short, tariffs aim to level the playing field. For years, American goods have faced high tariffs overseas, while imports into the U.S. haven't always encountered the same conditions. While this might cause some short-term price increases for businesses, strategically placed tariffs could significantly benefit America's long-term economic interests. I was recently on Fox News discussing the bankruptcy of 23andMe and what it means for your genetic data. When a company holding deeply personal information like DNA goes bankrupt, it raises serious questions: Who ensures your data is actually deleted if requested? Can we trust a struggling company to protect or responsibly handle this sensitive data? The reality is, genetic data isn't just about ancestry. It includes health details that, if mishandled, could open doors to identity theft, fraud, blackmail, and targeted scams. Imagine criminals using this data to fraudulently purchase homes in your name or extort money by threatening to reveal sensitive family secrets or medical conditions. We've all seen how hard it is just to get off a spam mailing list—imagine the complexity with something as sensitive as genetic information. Yet, there's another side. Access to extensive genetic databases from services like 23andMe and Ancestry.com could significantly advance law enforcement's ability to solve cold cases. Even a tiny DNA sample from a crime scene, previously useless, can now connect investigators to suspects through millions of genetic records. Ultimately, we trusted these companies with our most personal data in good faith. But with 23andMe's bankruptcy, it's essential to rethink how your data is managed and secured.
