“We’re like a family here.” You mean well - but that framing can do more harm than good. Because your company isn’t a family...It’s a team. And high-performance teams come with roles, expectations, accountability… and sometimes hard decisions. Family is unconditional. Teams are accountable. Here’s the thing: You can care deeply about your people, lead with empathy, and still run your company like a team - not a family. One doesn’t cancel out the other. They flip the process. They start at the bottom of their funnel. Work backwards. And build a plan that makes revenue inevitable, not accidental.
