I have removed all the nonsense and distilled AI SEO to a few main points for executives:

1. Referral traffic from LLMs is around 1% of total traffic share. This is consistent for every B2B SaaS website I have seen. There may be outliers if it’s a massive brand, but those are edge cases. 

Implication: AI hype is way overblown. CMOs think they are missing out on a huge traffic opportunity.

2. AI Search platforms use a technique called “grounding” which means connecting the AI’s answers or reasoning to reliable sources of truth (citations) instead of just generating text from patterns in training data.

Implication: If the AI model “thinks” the answer is already well-covered by its internal training (like “What is Just In Time Access?”), it will respond directly without grounding. 

3. Bottom of Funnel is really all that matters. Reverse engineering prompts that recommend tools, software and use “grounding” to find those solutions are where we should be focusing as SEOs. 

Implication: There are probably just 10 prompt variations that actually matter for most software businesses.

4. Top of funnel is dead. Informational content gets scraped, extracted (stolen) and summarized / served by LLMs to users who just want a clear answer. 

Implication: If there’s no LLM grounding, there’s no citations, and no chance of getting a click. Therefore it only makes sense to optimize for prompts that would recommend a brand. 

5. Reputation management and sentiment matters. 

Implication: You need to own all questions around your branded search prompts like reviews, help docs, product comparisons, pricing, etc. This includes 3rd party ecosystem management.
