As Amazon sellers, sales drops can be alarming, but understanding market dynamics can save you.

At GNO Partners, we work with over 40 Amazon businesses to grow their brands.

You can imagine that every now and then, another client panics about a sudden sales drop for one of their products.

If this has ever happened to you, keep reading.

While the panic is certainly justified, the first thing we need to do is identify if:

• We're losing market share, or
• Everyone (our competitors) is selling less as well.

Understanding this first is key to knowing how aggressively you need to act and how urgent the matter really is.

You see, if you are losing market share, it's much worse than if all your competitors have been a bit softer in the last week as well.

To measure that, try the following options:

• If you're using tools like H10 Market Tracker, check your market share.
• If not, open all your competitors' listings.
• Use tools like Keepa or Helium10 Extension to see their BSR trend.
• Compare their BSR trend to yours in the last 30/60 days.
• If only your BSR is higher than normal, you're losing market share.
• If all the competitors' charts look similar, it's related to the market.

The first step is to clearly understand if it's only you who is losing sales or all your competitors.

If it’s only you, it’s bad and must be analyzed with a clear action plan to address the problem ASAP.

If it’s the overall market, I recommend giving it some time and monitoring the trends before taking aggressive actions; many times it just returns to normal.

Wait to see how things develop before spending all your money on random PPC campaigns or big changes.

If you are losing market share, start by analyzing everything you did in the last 30 days and trying to undo any changes.

Optimizing your bids is how you navigate your campaigns to the goals you want.

That said, there is one recurring element that many of my clients at GNO Partners need to improve when they come to us.

It's their placement bids in their Sponsored Products campaigns.

Many sellers and agencies need to be more active to optimize those.

This is a massive miss because we can see that top-of-search placements will get the best conversion rate and ACOS in most brands.

This is the only time your campaign can simultaneously achieve more profits and higher-ranking goals.

We have a simple Google sheet that will analyze your account's best-performing placements.

𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭:

• Have the highest CVR
• Have the highest CTR
• Have the best ACOS
• Have the worst ACOS

From there, I highly recommend that you start optimizing your campaigns so that most of your spending goes to the best-performing placements in your account.

Check the picture below: only 20% of the total spend goes towards the Top of search, while it's getting the best ACOS, CVR, and CTR...

I just discovered a simple trick to improve my organic ranking.

When you have products with variations, only one child ASIN in your parent will rank for every specific keyword.

For example, if you’re selling blankets, most of the time, this will happen:

• Your best child ASIN will rank for generic terms like “Adult blankets” 
• Specific intent keywords like “white blanket” will show your white blanket
• Again, for a “Queen size blanket,” your queen-size variation will show up
• Keywords like “Bedroom blanket” or “Gift for sleep lovers” will show your best-selling Child.

In other words, the child ASIN that sells the most units and converts the best will rank in the keyword.

I don't know about you, but I want to ensure this is the case with my products. 

So, how can we check which of our child ASINs is ranking for our keywords without manually searching in Incognito?

That’s what I learned from my team at GNO Partners:

• Go into your Keyword tracker on Helium10
• Add one of your child ASINs to the tracker.
• The system will detect the Parent ASIN and will ask whether to track all the other Childs. Say yes.
• Add all your Keywords
• Right under all your keywords, you’ll see the ranked Child ASIN.

Simple. Quick. Great time-saver. (check the attached picture)

If you’re selling on Amazon listings with many variations, add your Child ASINs and check what is ranking where.

You might be surprised by the results and see wrong Child ASINs in specific intent keywords, which must be fixed for optimal results.

I have been doing this manually until now, so I thought I’d share.

Amazon Sellers - Do you want to break records on Prime Day? 
That’s my PPC plan for tomorrow

This is my 7th Prime Day. 

I got my best-selling record day on Prime Day multiple times.

I shared all my favorite strategies for Prime Day in another post (link in the comments)

Many clients at GNO Partners have been asking, "Do you have any tips or suggestions for PPC during Prime Day?" 

Here are some of the tactics I use to make the most of Prime Day:

1 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭:

• Ensure your Lightning deals or Prime Exclusive Discounts are ready.
• Raise budgets for campaigns with good ACOS in the last 30 days.

𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐢𝐟 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠:

• Increase budgets for campaigns running out of budget.
• Keep increasing budgets as long as you are within your TACOS range.
• If your campaigns aren't reaching their budget, increase placement bids 

If you still don’t reach your budget, launch several new auto campaigns with different bid levels ($0.70, $0.95, $1.10) with Dynamic Up&Down. 

𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐢𝐟 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭:

• Reduce budgets for high ACOS campaigns.
• Avoid aggressive tactics and maintain balance and profits.
• Consider trying the Auto Campaigns with Dynamic Up&Down bids.

I used those tactics on all the shopping holidays, and they worked well every time.

I would not adjust bids for targets (keywords/Asins) to prevent potential long-term campaign damage. 

Implement these strategies to optimize your PPC performance and maximize your sales during Prime Day.

Prime Day PPC Suggestions 

This is one of the biggest mistakes I see Amazon Brands make:

Not prioritizing the real prize – high organic ranking on your top keywords. 

At GNO Partners, we work with over 40 Amazon businesses to grow their brands.

One of the main benefits of working with us is that we focus the seller's attention on actions that move the needle. 

When we started working with many of our current clients, we quickly saw that they were paying little to no attention to growing their organic ranking on Amazon. 

If this is you, keep reading. 

You see, The biggest brands on Amazon that make the most profits, all have two things in common:

• They are organically at the top of the page with their important keywords.
• They are always trying to rank higher and find new keywords to rank on.

Higher Organic ranking = more organic sales = more profits at the end of the month.

When done correctly, you can grow your organic ranking across many keywords, and explode your revenue and profits. 

In the attached picture, you’ll see the results of one of our clients. 

He has a mid-7 figures brand but never really focused on growing organic ranking before he joined us. 

When I asked him why he never put time and effort into growing his ranking, he said he didn't know all the newest and updated tactics… 

There will always be new tactics for growing organic ranking, but even if you don't know them, sticking to the basics will always work. 

If this is you, focus on the most foundational method:

• Find your top five competitors
• Use Data Dive Tools or Helium 10 Cerbro to see the KWs that they're ranked in the top 10
• Search those Keywords on Amazon and analyze the top 6 organic spots
• Prioritize the keywords you see that your offer* will stand out the most.
• (*Offer = price/main image/rating/reviews compare to your competitors)
• Target those Keywords on PPC aggressively.
• Add the KWs all over your main image, title, bullets, pictures, & EBC.
• Monitor your organic ranking and optimize as you go.

This is the good old way that has been working in 2018, in 2024, and will work in 2028. 

There are many more tactics you can use, but I can guarantee that starting to focus more on your organic ranking with this tactic will grow your brand on Amazon.

The truth is that if you’re not focusing on growing your organic ranking at all… you’re not playing the game correctly.

Prime Day can be HUGE if you’re prepared. 
With it coming up next week, here are my top 5 strategies to crush it

I made a lot of money on Prime Day over the years:

• A product doing $30-45k/month in sales did $220k sales in 2 days. 
• A product selling 5k units/month exploded and sold 10k units in 1 day.
• A product selling 9-10k units/month sold 2k units in 20 minutes (we paused the deal because of inventory problems)

If you’re looking to capitalize on Prime Day, keep reading.

Here are the 𝐭𝐨𝐩 5 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 I’m using: 

1. 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐢𝐞𝐫 1 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬: 

• Any product that is selling over 100 units per day
• If the deal is starting not later than 12 pm PST, ideally on the first day.
• Working with a VA to maximize the claimed % on PDP to be 85%+.

2. 𝐔𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦/𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐨:

• It’s free
• It gets you a deal badge that bumps CVR & CTR
• If you don't get it, you’re left behind your competitors who do.

I recommend using it for as many products in your portfolio as possible. 

From my experience, it's usually worth it, especially if you use the next tactic…

3. 𝐋𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐏𝐂 𝐓𝐀𝐂𝐎𝐒 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 2-𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭. 

• Calculate your gross profit margin with the discounted deals prices.
• Clarify your main goal for every product: profits or units sold.
• Based on the above, adjust your PPC TACOS for the 2 days.
• Control your spending mostly by adjusting your campaign budgets.

Controlling your PPC TACOS is a key skill for big deals days. 

Start by lowering the budgets of your worst campaigns and work your way down.

4. 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐮𝐩 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲. 

• Use Prime Exclusive Discounts
• Push with PPC at the same time
• Ensure you’re getting your cash back – monitor your estimated payout. 
• Sell as much as you can to clean up all the junk in your account.

That’s an underestimated benefit of the big shopping days.

5. 𝐃𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞/𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐃:

Understand that sales and profits will be softer 2-3 days before the event and 2-3 days after.

Don't get into stress mode and start breaking stuff or making a million changes.

Give time time and sales will be back to normal. 

Regarding budget adjustments, I like to:

• Start lowering the budgets 1-2 days before the event.
• Getting back to normal budgets right after the event. 

That’s it.

Amazon Brand's Q4 orders can be tricky. 
A mistake can be the most expensive mistake of the year.

At GNO Partners, we work with over 40 Amazon businesses to grow their brands.

For some of the brands, Q4 represents 30-40-50% of their yearly profits and sometimes more.

Keep reading if you're not sure about how much to order for Q4.

You see, there will never be an absolute right answer for this topic.

No one can see the future and tell you how much you will sell this year if it will be like last year or stronger or softer.

Going into my 7th holiday season as an Amazon seller, I have a point of view for the period:

I try to place as aggressive an order as I can for the brand's tier 1 products.

I’ve seen Q4 too many times, and every time, the VOLUME surprised me.

That’s why I prefer to go for the win and bet bigger.

With that said, it's easier said than done, especially when you see the $$ amount it costs. 

So, what I like to do is weigh the pros and cons of the situation.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞?

• We can sell more and potentially make much more profits.
• More inventory = better distribution across Amazon’s Warehouses = better shipping time = higher CVR & ranking.
• Selling more units will get us more reviews, a key to long-term success.
• Bigger orders = bigger discounts, or at the least better payment terms.
• Starting Q1 with strong inventory is key to keeping our momentum & organic ranking in place.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞?

• Higher storage fees
• You got too much stock and you’re stuck with it.
• Cash flow problems.

Now, the storage fees suck, but the upside is much stronger and will cover the extra costs.

In regards to the cash flow, Start with your supplier or Freight Forwarders. 

I always ask for better payment terms, as they know it's a tight period. 

From there, I use loans if needed.

I think we all agree that the real risk is having too much stock after the holiday season.

Now, I like to keep in mind that we can sell any remaining stock in Q1-Q2-Q3… 

It’s not like you're hanging your shoes at the end of Christmas. 

The game keeps on rolling…
 
You’ll also save time, as you won’t need to do any inventory planning/forecasting for the near future.

It’s not fun, but it's not the end of the world, and for all the points I mentioned on the upside, I totally think it's worth it.

This mistake cost me millions, and I see many other Amazon sellers making the same one:

Some Amazon sellers sit on hidden goldmines without even realizing it.

I was in the exact same situation.

My best-selling product was selling 200 units per day, and I thought I’d maximize my sales… 

I went on spending 9 months doing other stuff… Some were wins and some were flops.

𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐟𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞:

• Launching new Products - win.
• Launching in new Amazon marketplaces - win.
• Launching new e-commerce marketplaces - flop.
• Investing $20k and launching my own website - flop.
• Creating upgraded creative - partial win.
• Focusing on my dead products - partial win.

After a few months of decreasing sales, it hit me: “Maybe I can squeeze out more juice from my Best-seller?...” 

Within 6 months of focus, the product was 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 700 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐲… 

Selling the most units in my portfolio of products, with the best profit margins… 

This product alone was more than 35% of the money I got paid when selling my brands…

That’s what we do with all our clients when they join GNO Partners, we get more juice out of their best-selling products by doing everything I did with mine… 

If you’ve been selling on Amazon for a while, consider doing the same with your best-selling products.

𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞:

• Find new keywords to go after and get a higher ranking.
• Improve your main image to boost CTR.
• Negotiate with your suppliers to get better prices for bigger orders.
• Launch your best-selling products in marketplaces like Amazon Canada, UK, and Germany.
• ID specific KWs or ASINs that are working well in PPC, and target them in new ad types.

Learn from my mistakes and focus on your best-selling products, always!

You’ll see your products, brand, and business grow faster and bigger than you can imagine.
