Underpromise and overdeliver is an interesting concept.

I recently experienced this from a small business owner who specializes in home-baked brownies.

Instead of promising me a swift delivery, she simply stated "evening delivery." 

Yet, I was pleasantly surprised when she told me I could receive my order in early afternoon.

The overall experience was interesting. It got me thinking about the concept underpromise and overdeliver because it is talked about A LOOOT in the business world. 

Being a business owner, I know how much referrals and testimonials mean to us. 

So I enthusiastically took some pictures of those gooey brownies and posted on some groups to recommend her business to others. 

This made me wonder if I've ever done this with my business.

Relevance. Usefulness. Authority.

1. Relevance

If you have a website selling organic cat food, you won’t rank for the keyword “best hairstyles for short hair.”

You will rank for keywords that apply to your website, for e.g. “best organic cat food” or “best organic cat food dry, etc.”

2. Usefulness

Is your content useful? Does it provide users with a positive experience in terms of loading speed, optimization for mobile and web, or content organization? 

You can make your content useful by distributing it in headings and keeping the paragraphs short. 

Don’t add walls of text to your content. Divide them into brief paragraphs that are easy on the eyes. 

Make visuals your friend. Add images with text to help your audience understand a concept or if there’s a video to go with it, even better. 

If you’re writing a comparison post, add tables to compare features, prices, pros and cons, etc.

The more you break walls of texts with images, infographics, tables and videos, the better. 

3. Authority
Google gauges authority by examining the number of quality, relevant sites that link back to yours and the frequency with which your content is shared on social media. 
The more authoritative your site, the better it ranks on Google.

SEO is a strategy that requires patience and time to see its impact. But these are the three basic ranking factors you can monitor to keep your SEO game in check.

Alt texts are one of the ranking factors on Google.



When I first started writing full time in 2019, I was told one word description was enough for alt texts.

Not knowing better, I complied.

Four years later when I chanced upon writing for b2b eCommerce, I learned about the importance of alt texts for images and how they help:


• make web content more accessible to individuals with visual impairments who use screen readers

• When a screen reader encounters an image with alt text, it can read the description aloud, providing context and information about the image

• provides great user experience for people with disabilities

• alt text helps search engines understand the content inside an image, which can improve the web page's search engine rankings

• this is especially important for image searches

• providing alt text is a standard practice in web development


• it is required by web accessibility guidelines and regulations, such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)


All in all, it makes you feel good as a writer to know you're helping people have a great user experience through your words.

Keep the alt texts brief and add your primary keyword to them.

However, write elaborate descriptions for those alt texts to provide content to people with disabilities.

One has to embrace change quickly to stay relevant. 

I love watching cricket but only recently have I started analyzing it in depth, so I couldn’t help but draw this parallel.

T20 cricket 🏏 is all the rage these days, with power hitting becoming a new norm, and batters striving to maintain a strike rate of 150 and over. 

Cricket purists 🏏might disagree, and would still prefer Test cricket to other formats, but T20 has appealed to the masses because it’s a shorter format. 

People don’t enjoy sitting for hours or waiting for days for a match to end.

This interest has given birth to franchise leagues and almost every cricket playing nation is building their own team to capitalize on the demand.

Cricketers are changing their style of play to stay relevant, get picked for franchise teams to play with international players, learn from them, get brilliant exposure and make good money.

Batters, 🏏 who open for their countries but cannot maintain a healthy strike rate of 150+, don’t capitalize on the power-play field settings, are seeing their careers die.

Bowlers who aren’t evolving into lower order batters are meeting the same fate.

They aren’t getting picked by franchises, losing out on all the opportunities because they’ve failed to adapt.

This is like what’s going on in the content world…

Writers who still create content that mimics what ranks at the top of the SERPs, thinking this is how SEO is done, are becoming irrelevant.

Creators who cannot embrace the latest tech, strategy, and artificial intelligence in their content creation processes will be left behind.

And as per the famous LinkedIn line (I don’t know who wrote it): AI won’t replace you, but writers using AI certainly will. 

Evolving with time is the way to go.

I love using Perplexity AI for one particular reason.



It cites the sources it takes information from.

Sometimes when I’m running short on time, I head over to Perplexity for help.

Not to make it write for me, but to type in my queries and get answers for them.

A couple of days ago, I was working on a script for a YouTube short. I had to look up a specific information that (I thought) was available only on a podcast.

That podcast, unfortunately, wasn’t available in my country. I even paid for Spotify, tried signing up on Amazon Music, but it didn’t work out.

So I reached out to my most trusted friend (in need), Perplexity.

I wrote exactly what I was looking for and it gave me the link to an article that had the information I wanted. 

It was a HUGE help!

Initially, I felt stressed and wasted a few precious minutes searching for ways to play the podcast, but then everything worked out fine because I found ‘that’ specific information in ‘that’ article! 😌

Thanks to Perplexity.

I’ve been using this method more often to speed up my research process.

Content writing is just like fast bowling. ⚾




They both require precision and the right strategy.

If you notice incisive fast bowlers, they target a spot on the pitch and make the ball bounce on the same spot every single time. 

With all the data available for every player, they spot batters' weaknesses and bowl where it's difficult for them to play.

Fast bowlers devise tactics, such as variations in pace or using swing, to outsmart batters and take wickets.

Content writing is also similar. 

Writers reach out to their target audience through different communication channels. See what they’re talking about in multiple social groups/communities. 
Conduct polls, surveys to see what problems they have. 

Writers, with the right guidance, data, precision and strategy, hit the target audience’s problems, and present solutions through their content, every single time until they take the desired action.

Adaptability is also key to content writing and fast bowling. 

A content writer adjusts their style based on the topic or audience, while a fast bowler adapts their deliveries based on the pitch conditions or the batter's weaknesses.
