A founder hired me to build a roadmap.

I ignored it for three weeks and talked to their customers instead.

The contract was for a 4-week sprint. 

"We don't know what to build next. Can you help us figure out a roadmap?"

I said sure, but I'd need to start by talking to their customers. 

Ten user interviews. Dozens of support tickets. Sales recordings they'd never listened to.

The team was too buried to do it themselves. Shipping feature after feature and firefighting bugs, really just trying to keep from imploding.

What I found: they were solving problems customers didn't actually have.

Most features were being pushed by sales to close deals that hadn't even happened yet. One of the founders was chasing a pivot, but it was solving for a segment of customers that didn't exist yet. 

Week four, I came back with a roadmap. It looked nothing like what they expected.

Early-stage chaos will convince you that you don't have time to talk to customers. That's exactly when you need to the most, even if it forces you to slow down. 

Fractional PMs aren't just extra hands. We're the outside perspective that sees what you can't when you're drowning.

If you're hiring fractional help and they don't push back on your assumptions, you hired wrong.

Therapy has helped me overcome so much.

Depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, confidence issues - it's all come up. Truly hit a point where there wasn't more to unpack.

But one part no one tells you: you're never fully "fixed."

Those things come back. They creep in when you're tired, stretched thin, or staring down a goal. Sometimes it's a day. Sometimes it's weeks.

That's where I've been lately.

From the outside, things look dialed in. But behind all that I'm an anxious wreck on the edge of breaking down.

Not sharing this for sympathy. I'm sharing it because someone scrolling right now probably thinks they're the only one faking it. You're not. 

The lowest lows always compound right before the highs show up again. My brain knows that. Doesn't make it easier to sit in though.

If you're in it right now too, you're not alone or broken. You're just human and doing hard things. 💙

Someone called me out last week.

"I can't find your Prodfolio."

My first reaction was defensive. "It's on the website...just look there..."

But they were right. I really haven't posted it or shared it on my LinkedIn.

I'd built a platform to help PMs showcase their work and forgotten to do it myself.

Classic PM mistake: obsess over the product, forget about showing it off.

So I connected my custom domain this week and actually linked it in my featured section. Pretty stoked to feel confident about showing off my work, even if it'll be constantly changing and updating.

Turns out the fear of sharing doesn't go away just because you built the tool. I still had that voice saying wondering if it's good enough, but that's exactly the point. If I'm waiting for perfect, I'm missing the whole lesson I'm trying to teach.

Your work doesn't speak for itself. Neither does your product. You have to actually use it, share it, and trust that good enough today beats perfect never.

We launched Prodfolio™ on Wednesday.

By Thursday morning, I had a list of things that were either broken, confusing, or made me question....did we test that? 

Toast notifications that never disappeared. A watermark banner that was confusing. Free tier AI credits set at a number that made zero sense for our users.

I'm learning things I didn't expect.

Like how users will immediately find the one workflow you never considered. Or how "being generous" and "being sustainable" are sometimes at odds, and you have to pick one fast.

We set free tier AI credits at 1 because it felt right to add some friction. Then we watched actual usage patterns and realized we'd miscalculated. Badly. So we adjusted to 5 and added clearer upgrade messaging.

Is that the right number? Probably not. We're still figuring it out. But at least the odds of getting stuck before seeing value have decreased.

Every bug report feels like a gift though. 

Someone cared enough to tell us "this broke when I did X" instead of just bouncing. It's the difference between building in a vacuum and building something people actually want to use.

We've been shipping updates a lot this week, sometimes multiple times a day. The app is way more stable than it was this time last week, but we'll never call it done. We're just getting started.

I keep waiting for the panic to hit. The "we launched too early" feeling. 

But it hasn't come. Maybe I'm just too curious about what breaks next, or maybe I've just started appreciating the idea of iteration. 

Excited to see what another week has in store.

I've worked with 5 companies in 2025 and there's a pattern I keep seeing: The more meetings a team schedules, the less work actually gets done.

It's not malicious. It's just easier to talk about the work than actually do it. Easier to have a "quick sync" than write a brief. Easier to loop everyone into a call than make a decision in a Slack thread.

But here's what that costs: deep work.

When you go fractional, you realize quickly that time is your only asset.

You don't have 40 hours to waste. You have 10, 15, maybe 20 and they need to count.

That means you get ruthless about meetings.

The best remote teams I've worked with have mastered async comms. 

Clear briefs in Notion or gdocs. Decisions documented in Asana. Looms or Slack videos instead of calls. They trust people to read, process, and respond on their own time.

The ones still stuck in meeting hell? Everything's a call. Status updates, brainstorms, decisions that could've been three bullets in Slack.

And here's the uncomfortable part: meetings often mask a lack of accountability.

Nothing gets written down. No one owns the outcome. Conversations circle. Decisions evaporate. Everyone leaves feeling busy, but nothing actually moves.

Async forces clarity. You have to think through the problem. Commit to a decision. Own the next step.

Some of the best work I've done this year has happened in Notion and Slack threads. Zero meetings. Just clear communication and people who knew what they were responsible for.

If your team is remote and you're still defaulting to meetings for everything, ask yourself: Are we meeting because we need to, or because we don't trust async?

If it's the latter, you don't have a communication problem. You have a trust problem.

What PMs say vs. what we actually mean: 

"Let me circle back on that" 
👉 I have 47 tabs open and genuinely cannot remember what you just asked 

"That's an interesting idea" 
👉 No, but I respect you enough not to say "that's terrible" in this meeting 

"Let me sync with the team on that" 
👉 I have no idea if this is possible and need to check  

"Let me check the data on that" 
👉 I'm hoping you forget about this by next week 

We all joke about our "PM speak," but it's actually how we survive.

We're buying time, protecting relationships, and gathering information before committing to something we can't undo.

The problem isn't the deflection. It's when we use the same soft language to describe our own work.

"Helped the team ship" doesn't tell anyone what you actually did. Neither does "collaborated cross-functionally."

Save the soft language for stakeholders. Be direct about your impact.

What PMs say vs. What we mean

When you launch a product, three groups immediately appear:


🎉 The cheerleaders: hyping you up, asking about progress, genuinely invested in seeing you win

😬 The "realists": sharing why they tried and failed, citing all the reasons it won't work (usually their reasons, not yours)

🤨 The skeptics: "definitely not something I'd use" energy before they've even seen it

Some days you wake up energized by the cheerleaders. Other days the realists make you question everything. And the skeptics? Sometimes they're projecting, but other times they point out real product problems.

Here's the thing no one tells you: all three groups will always exist. The ratio shifts, but they're always there.

Your job isn't to convert the skeptics or prove the realists wrong.

It's to keep going.

Because the people who need what you're building? They're not in your DMs yet. They're still struggling with the problem you're solving, waiting for someone to build the thing that works.

So you listen to the feedback. You separate what's real from what's projection.

And you keep moving anyway.

The follow-up email from my 90-day review hit my inbox this time last year.

It contradicted half of what was said in the live meeting.

Goals marked “achieved” in person were suddenly “substantial progress made” in writing. I responded professionally, but I knew what it was: a paper trail.

There were early cultural signals that didn’t align with how I work, but I still tried to convince myself it was fine. 

I’d left a job I loved for this role, and honestly, I was ashamed.
Ashamed I’d taken a risk that didn’t feel right.
Ashamed that the “pivot” I thought I needed wasn’t what I hoped it would be.

So I stayed.
Kept my head down.
Tried to push through the discomfort because admitting I couldn't make it work felt worse than living with the misalignment. 

But here’s the real lesson: you can’t work your way out of a bad culture.

Mentorship isn’t someone with a cool network telling you stories. It’s someone who actually invests in your growth.

And ignoring your instincts because you’re embarrassed never saves you, it just drags things out. Now, when I take on fractional work or evaluate bigger roles, I'm seeking more. 

I'm looking for people that inspire me and for products I believe in. 
If those aren’t right, nothing else matters.

I spent years feeling like less because I didn't finish college.

Turns out, the paper doesn't do the work. You do.

If you didn't finish, you know the feeling. That little voice whispering "you're less" follows you around like a bad roommate who won't move out.

Maybe you convinced yourself that missing degree meant you weren't qualified to sit at the table. Not credible when you shared an idea. Not worthy of the raise.

That feeling held me back for years. Staying quiet in meetings. Skipping job apps I was actually qualified for. Working twice as hard just to prove I was "enough"

But no one cares about your GPA when you're delivering real results.

And I'm watching the shift happen in real time. Job posts are dropping the "Bachelor's Required" line and moving it to a "Bonus" section. Companies are finally waking up to what actually moves the needle: learning by doing, building real relationships, staying scrappy, and being open to feedback.

Instead of finishing school, I broke into tech and built a career working alongside some incredibly smart founders. I know PMs who are absolute rockstars and never stepped foot on a college campus.

A four-year degree isn't the only way in anymore.

You just need to believe you belong in the room.

I built a PM portfolio in Notion last year.

Weeks of formatting project cards, writing case studies, embedding images that would actually load, making sure everything looked professional.

I showed it to exactly two people. Then I buried it in my bookmarks bar and never sent it to a hiring manager.

I was embarrassed. Every time I looked at it, I saw something broken. A project description that didn't land. A layout that looked great on desktop but fell apart on mobile. Metrics buried three at the bottom of a page (something a hiring manager would never find). 

And I've watched other PMs hit the same wall: 
Building a portfolio shouldn't require design skills. Most of us aren't designers. We shouldn't need to spend hours fiddling with Notion templates, Webflow layouts, or Figma prototypes just to show our work.

Updating it shouldn't feel like starting over. Every new project means rebuilding sections, re-uploading images, reformatting text. So most people just... don't. Their portfolio becomes a snapshot of who they were six months ago.

Sharing should be simple. I had friends using Google Docs, half-broken personal sites, Notion pages that required access requests. Every option felt too informal or too much work to maintain.

The hiring managers I actually wanted to impress weren't judging me for having an imperfect portfolio. They just wanted to see my work and understand my thinking. With limited time.

But the tools made it so painful to build and maintain, so I chose invisibility instead.

That's why we built Prodfolio.

Not because PMs needed another place to store resumes. But because the actual process of building, updating, and sharing a portfolio was broken.

If you've been avoiding this because it feels like too much work, or you built one and let it go stale, that's not a you problem. That's a tools problem.

Your work deserves to be seen. The process shouldn't be the thing stopping you.

I have an airport hack for ALL OF YOU! (that may just change your life) 

Lately... at the airport I've been doing something kind of weird. 

You probably wouldn't peg me for this kind of person but here it is. 

I've been...

1. Putting my phone in my pocket 
2. Not having airpods in. 
3. Talking to whoever is around me that looks interesting and doesn't have their head buried in their phone. 

And HERE'S the WILD THING! 

Today alone I made 2 insane connections... 

the first was a nice couple that was sitting beside me in the emergency exit row. 

They turned out to own (with another group) a bunch of motel properties that I had been eyeing for a MASSIVE RESORT that i think could be an insanely huge attraction for the city I live in. I had been thinking about it for a while and it's crazy that they just happened to be beside me on a random flight. Many more other connections too... but I digress. 

The second was a random guy who runs point for one of the largest inference chip companies in the world helping put in data centres... 

Well I just happen to have a local data centre deal that I've been dreaming up for my town. 

The first convo actualy helped steer me in a totally different LIFE direction than I was thinking about fo rthe next 5-10 years TBH (not exaggerating) 

So... the lesson. 

Get off your effing phone 
Talk to people. 
The universe/god/life wants to give you good things... but you won't get them staring at your phone or sitting in your office.
