It’s quarter end, and I don’t have time. My children will not remember that, but they will remember I made them a priority. My biggest goal is to be a present father. But there is always something that gets in the way. * “I’ll read you a bedtime story tomorrow, buddy.” * “Let’s make that piñata on the weekend, son.” * “Daddy just needs to finish this one report…” I don’t even remember when I promised them I’d write them a story. I was so occupied with “important things” that I forgot I made them a promise that was actually important. Yesterday, when they asked about it, I felt off and ashamed. Is this living? Or am I just cruising on autopilot? Checking all the boxes, tackling all priorities, shipping results… all the things that look impressive on the outside but feel hollow within. So I decided to do something different. I created my first Children’s Book with the help of AI, and I felt like a rockstar. You should have seen how my boys listened to the story, eyes wide with wonder. It took me several hours, time that I thought “I didn’t have.” Looking back, I realize I’ve been sleeping on the job of being a Present Dad. When something is truly important, you either find the way or make the way. To all of you doing an incredible job staying present and intentional, I salute you. For all the rest living on autopilot like me, don’t beat yourself up.
