You’re a great Product Manager. You know you’ll be an even better Product Leader. But... Why is it so hard to make the leap from PM → Product Leader? Hard Truth #1: Opportunities for advancement in product management are scarce. Product teams are typically smaller, and when leadership roles open, the competition is fierce. You need to be primed and ready for when your chance comes. Hard Truth #2: The skills that make you a stellar PM won't necessarily make you a stellar Product Leader. Leading 100 people isn't the same as leading 10; it requires a significant evolution of your skill set. So, what skills do you need? How do you acquire them? That's where I come in! I’ve been building products for over 25 years, and have grown from leading a small team of 5 to leading a 300+ org at a top-tier company. I became a Product Leader by navigating the very same obstacles facing you today. My mission is to help great PMs like yourself transform into outstanding Product Leaders. You can do it! There are immediate steps you can take starting today to set yourself on this path. Follow me to discover how.

You can’t bribe people into greatness. For years, I thought hard targets + bonus pay = high-performing teams. Turns out, I was wrong. Dead wrong. Here’s what actually works: 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. A Harvard Business Review study found 9 out of 10 people are willing to earn less if their work feels meaningful. People don’t stay late because of a bonus program. They stay late because they 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 in what's being built. They show up because they feel recognized, empowered, invested in. That’s not motivation – it’s ignition. It lights a fire within each person. 👉 In my teams, shifting to purpose-driven goals transformed mercenaries into missionaries. Of course we had targets we wanted to hit – but it was the 𝘸𝘩𝘺 behind the numbers that made it stick. And when I leaned into meaning, here’s what followed: ➟ Better retention ➟ Stronger performance ➟ More energy – without the burnout - - - Want to turn your team from compliant to committed? Here are 3 simple steps I use: 1. Clarify 𝘸𝘩𝘺 the work matters 2. Recognize people who moved the mission forward 3. Create space for ownership and stretch If it worked for me – and for teams across industries – it can work for you too. Well said 👇 "Yes, I know the goal of AI is efficiency. Let the machines do the fast thinking so your team can do the deep thinking."

To me, the blind use of AI is the single biggest threat to future innovation and will take the biggest toll on society. AI is such a fantastic tool, but as the tools become more powerful, we must sharpen our critical thinking skills to ensure we are leveraging AI and not regurgitating AI outputs. Leaders - this is on you. Challenge your team to think. Hold them accountable to understand their work product and business output. And slow down. Yes, I know the goal of AI is efficiency. Let the machines do the fast thinking so your team can do the deep thinking.
Really great point. Skills that currently command the highest salaries (engineering, data analysis, etc.) are the ones machines are rapidly learning to do. In the future - the skills that will command the highest salaries are the ones that require the highest human agency. If you want to ascend to leadership roles - one of the most important skills you must learn is how to influence and persuade. As a leader - your success depends on your ability to rally large groups of people to action based on the strength of your message. Join my upcoming LIVE Maven cohort where I teach you the exact persuasion system I used to secure $100M budgets & close Fortune 50 deals while at Google. https://lnkd.in/dB7xfrvr

The skills kids will need aren't the ones that we're paying for - YET. A new analysis out of Stanford University reveals something incredibly important for anyone thinking about the future of work and education. On the left: the skills that earn the highest wages today in the States (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2024). On the right: the skills that require the highest human agency (with the help of AI agents), as ranked by AI experts. And the disconnect is glaring. At the moment we are still paying top dollars for roles that centre around data analysis, compliance, and strategy. These are roles that machines are rapidly learning to do. On the other end of the spectrum, we currently pay individuals who focus on teaching, guiding, adapting and people-facing roles far lower on the wage scale. But they may be the ones who can utilise AI the most effectively. Right now, the economy rewards machines-in-human-form. The future will need humans-in-full. So what does this mean for our children? The skills kids will need to thrive in the future aren’t just about memorising facts or learning solely about the technical aspects of AI. They’re focused on the human agency required to amplify AI use: 💬 Communication and collaboration 🧭 Moral reasoning and ethical decision-making 🧠 Critical thinking in ambiguous situations 🎯 Planning, organising, and adapting in real time 💓 Care, compassion, and relational presence This has given me a lot of inspiration for the offerings I am currently designing. At NeuroKin Academy we believe that the kids who will be well prepared for the future, are the ones who combine their humanity and critical thinking with responsible tech use (including AI). Now is the time to rethink what we measure, what we teach, and what we value. Stanford SALT study: https://lnkd.in/dGbYpyaY
The meeting is over. You walk out. And you know it didn’t land. You made the case. You shared the data. You explained the logic. But somehow...it didn’t move the room. People nodded, but no one bought in. And your initiative? Stuck. Again. Sound familiar? Here’s the thing: You’re not bad at strategy. You’re just missing one critical skill. Persuasive storytelling. It’s what separates ideas that get discussed from ideas that get done. And it’s absolutely something you can learn. Next week, I’m teaching a free Lightning Lesson that shows you how. I’ll walk you through 3 specific techniques to make your pitches stronger – each one takes <10 minutes to apply. You’ll never walk out of a meeting wondering what went wrong again. Free to join. At some point in your PM career, the job changes. You go from building things... to building belief. Sure, early on it’s about execution: ✍🏽 Writing specs 📆 Shipping roadmaps 🛠 Solving problems But the further you grow, the more your impact depends on something else: 👉🏽 Your ability to get other people moving. That means persuading stakeholders. Getting exec buy-in. Shaping strategy across an org. Rallying cross-functional teams. The best PMs don’t just communicate. They influence. They align. They inspire. If you want to reach the next level as a PM, you need to master this skill. That’s exactly what I teach in my live course: → Persuade, Influence, & Inspire Action for PMs (starting July 8th) If you’re ready to move from “here’s my idea” to “here’s what we’re doing” – this course is for you. 👉🏽 Learn more: amplifypm.com/maven - - - #leadership #productmanagement
Vibe coding is the hot new trend. But “vibe PM-ing”? Oh, we’ve been doing that for years. Examples include: 🙈 Set OKRs, then ignore them No need to check in. It feels like we’re making progress. 🤞🏽 Guessing what users want No need for user research. “I’ve been a user, so I get it.” ⏩ We’ll fill in the details later We’re “agile”. Move fast and break things, right? 📝 No need to document our decisions Why write it down when you can just...remember? 📊 Measuring launch success Adoption metrics? Don’t need it. People seem excited. 👑 Executive loved it = it’s our new strategy If the SVP smiled during the demo, we’re shipping it. Period. - - - Intuition is part of the craft. You keep sending out resumes. And hearing...nothing. No reply. No rejection. Just silence. You start to wonder: 💭 Did anyone even see it? 💭 Am I even close to getting an interview? 💭 Is there something wrong with me? You're not alone. This job market is brutal – and demoralizing. But if you want to change your odds, you need to change your perspective. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿. Imagine you’re the one hiring. You’ve got a role to fill. You’re swamped. And 1,000 applications just landed in your inbox. You can only talk to 10 people. And you’ve got two hours to pick them. Where do you start? The truth is, no one reviews 1,000 resumes equally. They look for signals: 📄 Most will have just a resume. 📝 Some will include a cover letter. 💬 A handful will follow up with a DM. 👍🏽 A lucky few come with a referral. Guess which ones they open first? 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗸. One signal gets lost in the noise. But layered together, they make you stand out. In this market, you don’t just need luck. You need strategy. Don’t think like a candidate; think like a recruiter. - - - - - - - - - - - - - ⚡️ Join my Maven class to master the #1 skill PMs must have to ascend to leadership roles - influence and persuasion. 𝗣𝗠 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹: Everyone talks in circles. You repeat yourself in every meeting. Your ideas gets challenged again (and again). You 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 your strategy is right – but no one’s bought in. And you’re stuck wondering: 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘥𝘰 𝘐 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘺? 𝗣𝗠 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻: You say less. But people lean in. You tell your story once – and decisions move forward. You stop pushing. You start pulling. That shift – It’s not magic. It’s storytelling. It's persuasion. Tomorrow I’m teaching a 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 that will show you how to make that shift. ⚡ 3 ways to instantly improve your pitch ⚡ Takes <10 minutes to apply ⚡ Free to join. Live. No fluff. The best PMs don’t lead by directing every move – they lead by aligning, unblocking, and empowering the team to move without them. But this kind of leadership requires influence. You can’t quietly steer without trust. You can’t unblock if people aren’t bought in. You can’t empower if you can’t persuade. If you're trying to lead through others – not over them – you need to get great at persuasive storytelling. Not flashy decks. Not showmanship. Just clear, compelling messages that move people to action. And it works. This skill is how I grew from leading small teams to leading a 300+ org at Google. PMs aren’t the center of the team. But it’s easy to act like we are. So I sketched this out to name that shift. Two PMs. Same team. Completely different impact. ⭐️ One stands in the center, directing all the traffic. 🧭 The other quietly anchors the ends, keeping the team connected. And here’s the thing: One looks like a leader. The other acts like one. It made me pause — what actually makes a great PM? → They lead from behind Not every answer needs to come from you. And not every meeting needs your voice. > Shine a light on others > Share the credit generously > Let the team steer when they can Real ownership starts when you step back. → They unblock quietly The best PMs I’ve worked with didn’t chase glory. They chased alignment. Progress. Clarity. > Ask better questions, not louder ones > Make ambiguity less scary > Hold space, not just meetings That’s how momentum builds — one small shift at a time. → They don’t need to be the star Because the work speaks louder when the team feels seen. > It’s not “your” roadmap > It’s not “their” bug > It’s our product Ego slows teams down. Empowerment speeds them up. ✨ Leadership isn’t about standing in the middle. It’s about making sure no one gets left out at the edges. 👇 What’s one thing you’ve seen great PMs stop doing that made the biggest difference? — 🙋♀️ I’m Caroline — a PM who sketches ideas (literally) to explore the human side of product work. Let’s talk about clarity, connection, and leading without taking the spotlight. #ProductLeadership #ServantLeadership #HumanSideOfWork #CuriousPM #ClarityOverControl #TeamGrowth #LeadershipInPractice #ProductThinking
When you try to say everything, you say nothing. Most PMs over-explain their pitches. They’re trying to be thorough. They’re trying to be safe. But the result? A pitch that loses its punch. In this 2-minute clip, you’ll get: 💡 A simple mindset shift to sharpen your focus and amplify your impact 🔨 A practical tool that instantly makes your pitch more persuasive Watch it. Steal it. Use it in your next pitch. Go on. I’ll wait... - - - …you back? Did you watch it? What did you think? If you found that helpful in just 2 minutes... Imagine what you’ll get in my full course! 👉🏽 Persuade, Influence, & Inspire Action for PMs (live cohort starts July 8) To join - scan the QR code in the video, or find the link in my profile, or simply click “View my website” under my name above.
"𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀!" That's what a recent student of my course on persuasion & influence shared with me. In 1 week, I will be teaching this course LIVE on Maven. Influence is THE #1 skill for Product Managers. 👉🏼 And if you want to be a Product Leader, learning how to influence at scale 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵. This isn’t a course filled with high-level theory or fluff. It’s built for busy PMs who need to drive decisions, tell compelling stories, and influence outcomes – fast. Everything in this course is designed to be 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. That’s why folks from Google, Meta, and more are calling it transformational.
