I’ve started dreading new LinkedIn connections because of what usually comes next. When I accept, I can almost set a timer.

Because the pitch almost always arrives before we’ve even exchanged a hello.

“Hi, Abby. I help professionals optimize (BLANK), curious, have you ever thought about…”

Yes, I’ve thought about deleting your message and hitting “remove connection.”

I get these regularly because most teams have been told that LinkedIn is a numbers game.

The more DMs you send, the more leads you’ll get, right?
Wrong. So, so wrong.

Sending 500 DMs sporadically to anyone on your connection list isn’t the same as building a pipeline.

It's also really lazy.

Instead of randomly spamming my connections and followers, I do my research. I make sure they are my ideal buyer, and then I sort everything into two buckets:

1. Ready to buy
2. Not ready to buy yet

Then I only send what I’d want to receive myself, and only when I have permission from them!

That’s exactly how my clients operate, too. We build lead magnets, put ad spend behind them to increase visibility, and invite people to comment if they want the asset.

It’s slower, but it works. 

This is how we earn trust on LinkedIn and in our industry --->  by being respectful, professional, consistent with posting, and visible, not spammy. 

Because earning trust is the first step to getting those MQLs.

PS. DMs won’t fix your pipeline; better targeting will.

I unfollowed 27 brands last month. Because their content felt fake.
Too perfect. Too templated. AI's little fingerprints all over it.

But I get why this happens.
Founders are crazy busy and have no time to write their own stuff consistently, so the internal team often steps in to help with personal branding.

But here’s what’s actually happening: Those teams are just as busy.
And they’re being told: "Just throw it into ChatGPT, it’ll do the job."

Then what gets posted sounds nothing like the founder.
It talks at people. It’s full of emojis. Weird jargon.
And it sells “value” without saying anything useful. Or proving anything.

That’s what I see and saw. So I unfollow(ed.)

And if I noticed, your buyers probably do too.

This kind of content breaks trust, but it does it so subtly and quietly. That's the biggest danger.

Because if people  don't know the REAL you, they won’t trust you, and if they don't trust you, they won't like you. And if they don't like you, they won’t buy from you.
