Every piece of research, when effectively communicated, can spark change. In academia. In careers. In society. But too often, important findings remain hidden, their potential unrealized. The importance/impact of research gets: ● Buried under layers of complexity ● Communicated without connecting ● Overwhelmed by scientific terms and processes This is why I created PresentBetter: To transform how your researchers share their ideas with the world. Together we distill years of complex study into clear, compelling narratives that resonate with and inspire audiences. By amplifying researcher’s voices, we elevate the ability to communicate research in ways that: ● Moves people ● Propels careers forward ● Bridges the gap between academia and society Through PresentBetter.org, I offer tailored solutions to meet diverse needs: 1. Individual Coaching: One-on-one sessions crafted for your specific presentation challenges. 2. Lab and Department Workshops: Small group training to elevate your entire team's communication skills. 3. Institutional Programs: Comprehensive, scalable solutions for universities and research institutions. 4. Conference and Event Preparation: Targeted coaching for high-stakes presentations that can define careers. 5. Online Courses: Self-paced learning for researchers seeking flexibility. We aim to create a future where every researcher's voice resonates with clarity and impact. PS Wondering if too good to be true? Here's a link to the talk I coached that was voted the best 3 minute research presentation in North America last year. Scroll through the flipbook for the talk, key lessons, minute by minute breakdown, and a description of the program that I used to train the speaker: https://www.presentbetter.org/post/international-award-winning-talk

People tell me I shouldn't be sharing this for free. But I am anyway. It's a collab with McGill Telestudio, to help researchers be more engaging on camera. It's created for professors, but it'll help everyone. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗺 𝗜 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲? 3 reasons 1. McGill TeleStudio covered the production costs so it didn't cost me any money to produce. 2. I know it'll help people, both the researchers who watch them and then the researchers who watch those videos. Let's call it my contribution to raising the bar on being more engaging on camera. 1. I'm kicking off season 2 of my newsletter and want to start with something super valuable, both for the people who have supported my work from the beginning and for those who are new. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀? That's easy, anyone who subscribes to my newsletter before season 2 starts. So sign-up before the weekend's out, and Tuesday you'll have the link to the whole course. https://lnkd.in/en4hsXjT Cheers, Andrew PS Give this a like or repost and share with your network. We grow strongest when we grow together.
I moved the tables to either side and laid an extension cable across the floor in front. I then paced the boundary to ensure the size was correct. With the space established, we could get started. Each presenter was introduced, their slide was shown, the 4 of us in the room clapped, they stepped forward and started speaking, and the countdown timer started running. This was a practice session with #3mt nd #mt180 presenters, designed to mimic as best possible the faculty club stage at McGill University where the competition will be held next week. We'll do another practice a few hours before on the actual stage itself. One purpose is feedback, the other is to practice the experience. People forget their talk is so much more than their content and slides. It's a big part of why the day of feels so different than the practice time. Closing that gap is one way PresentBetter coaching helps presenters, well, you know, present better. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝟯 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼: 1. Practice at least once in the clothes you'll be wearing the day of. That nicer than normal jacket, it doesn't allow you to gesture quite the same way. 2. Practice in a room about the same size of the space where you'll present. No excuses for not doing this one: you work at a university, there are lots of empty classrooms, go get used to what presenting from the front of a big room feels like. 3. Record someone introducing you on your cell phone. When you practice, stand tall, listen to the introduction, and then step forward and start --that's how it happens in real life. . . . and the list could go on. In fact, when universities or institutes hire me as the presentation trainer for their event, it does. One of my jobs is to ensure the event feels familiar for the speakers before the event happens, and one way I help them do that is to practice the experience.
