2 weeks ago, I launched a research glossary.

450+ researchers have already used it.

It started as a small experiment.
Now teams are sharing it across Slack & Teams.

The more people used it, the more feedback I got.
So I went back to work.

The mission is simple:

No fluff. 
No gates.

As an [introverted] market researcher.

I didn’t think 12,000 followers was possible.

But here’s how I’ve made it happen with:
1. No hacks
2. No flashy system

Instead I've focused on:
• 1 LinkedIn post every weekday
• Reply to comments
• DM my network
• Leave real comments on posts

Not sexy. 

But this is how you build real momentum.

My Notion board is for idea generation and drafts.

Here’s how I batch:
• Start by writing down 5 big topics I actually care about
• Break each into 3–5 sub-topics
• Suddenly, I’ve got a month’s worth of daily ideas
  
Some posts don't work. 
Some take off. 
Most are somewhere in between.

Consistency beats “one viral hit” every single time.

If you’re building content, don’t overcomplicate it:
• Write more than you post
• Don’t judge the bad ones
• Build a system that works for your life
  
LinkedIn isn’t disappearing. 
Take your time. 
Build your habit.

Everyone who grew here started with:
• Zero followers
• “Should I just stop now?” moments

You aren’t behind. You may just be starting.

Researchers aren't commercially relevant enough.

There, I said it.

They talk about data.
But they ignore money.

They say:
"Scores dropped by 12 points."

And bosses say:
"So what?"

The problem isn't the data.
The problem is the story.

You need to change how you speak.

Don't say:
❌ "Users find it hard to sign up."

Say:
✅ "We lose £x paying customers every week because of X,Y,Z."

See the difference?
One is just data.
The other is money.

Now I see things differently.
 
It’s about moments I’ll never get back:
 
• Picking Noah up from nursery
• Trying to put a nappy on whilst he runs around
• A spontaneous day off to be with the fam
• Saying yes to being there
 
You won't remember trophies you won.

Neither will your family.
 
They will remember 'the moments' you have.
 
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸:  

Prioritise one thing that gives you joy.  

Have no regrets.

Here’s what no one tells you:

You won’t regret missing a meeting.

You will regret missing a moment with your kid or family
 
That's why I:
 
• Do the drop-offs
• Show up for pick-ups
• Take the random “dad days”
• Say yes when it counts
 
In 10 years, I won’t remember career successes.

[Even though I am career minded]

But I’ll remember the giggles, the questions, the time.
 
Parent or not:

Pick your version of this.  

And make space for it.

Most researchers are stuck in a "service trap."

They think value comes from:

• Running 30 in-depth interviews
• Staying up late at night to run focus groups
• Running brand health trackers
• Analysing 1,000 rows of data

But these are just the means.

Your real value is helping people make better decisions.

I call this the "The Researcher Framework":

𝟭. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 
Simplify the complex. Don't just report, educate.

𝟮. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 
Have an opinion. Back it up. Don't sit on the fence.

𝟯. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 
Use reports to persuade, not just inform.

𝟰. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁 
Obsess over competitors and the P&L. 
Know the business inside-out.

You’re not here to just run projects.

You’re here to make a difference.

Last Tuesday, I had a call with a researcher.

They had just finished an important debrief.

A segmentation study to the marketing team.

The deck was polished. 
The data was solid. 
The recommendations were clear.

The response:

"Send it over and we'll take a look when we have time."

They hasn't heard from them since.

This is the order-taker trap.

1. You get the brief. 
2. Run the project. 
3. Deliver the report. 
4. Repeat.

But here's the problem:

If you're not influencing decisions, you're replaceable.

I've worked across agency, client-side, and tech.

Strategic researchers do one thing better than others.

They focus on impact before the project even starts.

What I learnt from coffee with a Senior Insight Manager.

And it wasn't that I have become a coffee snob..

He turned his team from a “nice to have” into the function execs can’t do without.

Here’s what clicked for me:

Executives don’t lose sleep over statistical significance.

They lose it over:

• Growth
• Revenue
• Risk

If you say:

“Customer satisfaction dropped 10%,” 

Most leaders keep scrolling.

But if you say:

“We’ll lose £4.2M by Q3,” 

You get the room’s attention.

Insight doesn’t get ignored because it lacks depth.

It gets ignored because it lacks consequence.

And commercial reasoning.

That one shift turned his team’s status.

The best researchers don't win by collecting more data. 
They win by delivering more clarity.

5 signs you're team is stuck in data mode:

• You wait to be asked instead of owning the POV
• Your decks have 15 slides when 6 would do
• You speak in jargon no stakeholder understands
• You report findings, not decisions
• Stakeholders nods politely, then ignores it

Time to shift the mindset:

You're not a service desk. 

You're a commercial asset.

Stakeholders don't want more charts. 

They want your POV backed by data.

Before you launch your next research project.

Do this one thing.

Most research teams dive into projects.

The best, ask one important question:

"Is this the best use of our time?"

Before launching anything, map your research:

• Low effort, high value
• High effort, high value
• Low effort, low value
• High effort, low value

This simple step helps you focus.

Here’s how to use it:

1. Start with easy wins (low effort, high value).
2. Use data you already have.
3. Save deep-dive studies for the highest-impact questions.

More value. Less waste.

Tuesday: Three things “in progress.” 
Wednesday: One post “scrapped after draft.” 
Friday: Sprint to get anything finished.

Every week can be different, depending on what I have on.

It's fluid.

And it works for me.
