Here are 7 exercises you can use to find stories your audience will love to hear:

The best ingredient for a good story:

Conflict.

Humans are wired to detect change.

And any change is a conflict. Conflict is drama.

Use this exercise:

Conflict mapping.

How?

Let me explain…

How to use conflict mapping to create amazing stories:

Identify the 5 types of conflict:

Man vs. Man
Man vs. Self
Man vs. Fate
Man vs. Society
Man vs. Technology

Write one sentence for each of the above.

This will help you never tell a boring story again.

The secret trick authors use to find personal stories:

I was exercising.

I am/I was exercising to help you find your stories with ease.

How?

In the I am section list all the good things you are.

In the I section list all of the bad things you were.

The older exercise in the book:

Journaling.

Every night list the best and worst things that happened to you that day.

This is the formula for creating relatable stories.

Why?

Because it’s the little things that happen everyday that connects us to our audience.

Ask yourself:

Why did you start doing what you’re doing?

Dive deeper and ask why again.

Do this 5 times and you’ll have a deep personal story.

A picture is worth a thousand words right?

So do this:

Go through your old photos. 

For each photo write about a memory.

The photos stir up old stories, giving you endless inspiration.

How to find a one of kind story in 10 minutes:

The changed beliefs exercise.

Think of a belief you once held but no longer do. 

What changed your mind? 

This transformation can be the foundation of an engaging personal story.

Write a letter to your younger self.

What advice would you give?

That advice is a story for your target audience.

Write to your old self - you won’t regret it.

Have you ever thought living a boring life was a bad thing?

THINK AGAIN...

Emily Dickinson, 138 years after her death is still one of the most famous poets OF ALL TIME...

So here's the truth about Emily Dickinson (Hint: your English teacher lied to you)...

Emily lived a boring life in one of the most boring times to be alive.

So picture this:

Horse-drawn carriages, rural farmhouses with no electricity, and or course zero social media...

Not quite the setting for one of the most famous writers of all time, right?

WRONG!

And compared to today, there wasn't a lot happening...

There wasn't skydiving, Instagram influencing, NASCAR racing...

...you get the point.

But the cool thing about Emily Dickinson is that she was a homebody.

She sat in her house for decades, wrote +1800 poems, and had a tiny social circle.

What's even crazier?

Most of her works weren't published while she was alive.

So she didn't get rewarded for any of her work.

She didn't have LinkedIn or X to verify whether society liked her work or not.

Emily just pumped out amazing writing while reflecting on her inner conflicts.

So here's the lesson for you....

Your life doesn't have to be an adrenaline-fueled rampage to inspire others.

Your experience may seem boring, but it has value.

So consider this:

One of my best-performing email stories was about locking the keys inside my house.

A conflict everyone has experienced.

You've got stories worth telling because they're yours, not because they're flashy.

And in a world obsessed with the superficial, being authentic is your secret weapon.

So, what never to do when sharing your stories?

Stop trying to impress with the life you think people want to see.

And share the day-by-day stuff.

There's a secret cure to beat imposter syndrome...

But nobody is talking about it.

Read this for the cure:

First let me tell you something...

I struggled with imposter syndrome for 2 years...

Until 3 weeks ago, multimillionaire copywriter Ian Stanley reviewed my sales page.

I was nervous and tense.

5 techniques that'll make you a faster reader in 30 minutes (and remember what you read):

First the benefits.

Reading makes you:

•Self-aware
•Empathetic
•Open minded
•Smarter (duhhh)
•More interesting on dates (quoting Shakespeare works like a charm)

Let's dive in:

1.) Cut off your inner voice

That sweet voice that speaks the words as you read. . .

Is a bad thing.

You were taught to read that way when you were little.

That voice slows you down BIG TIME.

Train yourself to read without the voice.

Your eyes will move faster.

2.) Use your finger (not the middle one)

Your eyes aren't stable.

They float like a goldfish in a fishbowl

And like a fish, your eyes float around the page.

Using your finger helps your eyes move from left to right

Let's call it the focus finger!

3.) Stop Reading

In school you were forced to read books you didn't like.

NEWSFLASH - you don't have to.

Open the book up & if it doesn't grab your attention. . .

Swipe left like a dating app.

You don't have to read every page either.

3.1) Scan the index for a chapter that compels.

Then read it. Hop around. Be like a book-reading DJ mixing up songs.

You don't watch movies you don't like.

Why do the same with books?

I never read introductions either.

Find the best cut the rest.

4.) Create Reading Time:

Reading is the most transportable hobby.

Not having time is a horrible excuse.

Carve out time in your:

•Breaks
•Lunches
•Mornings
•Commutes

and so on. . .

Nowadays with audiobooks, you can at least listen (at 1.5x speed too)

Just be consistent.

5.) Read from the center of the page

This takes practice

But your eyes can read peripherally from the center of the page down.

Mark verticle lines with 1 word in on both sides of the page

On page 2 mark 2 words in and so. . .

Practice using your focus finger and give yourself 30 minutes to practice....

Foreshadowing is hinting at what’s to come.

Why this works:

- Adds context
- Engages reader
- Sprinkles some drama

Adding a twist hooks the reader.

It works like this:

Foreshadow future:

“The client joined the seminar, not knowing it would change her business forever.”

Add the twist:

“Not only did it change her business, but it also changed her relationships too, here’s how:”

This keeps the reader begging for more.

Don’t forget this:

Now that you can show the future,

You need to write about what’s changed.

Remember:

People buy transformation.
