3 unsexy sales tips that will make you so much $$$:

1. targeting precedes messaging

↳you can be the world's BEST copywriter, but if that copy lands in the wrong inbox at the wrong time- it's worthless.

find your best customers, make a list of 20+ and portion out these categories:

funded or not
initial deal size
company size
company location
industry
core pain solved for
titles of decision-makers

^ once you have this, you'll see patterns emerge. take the top 3 trends and make sequences geared toward THOSE lookalike accounts. that's your ICP.



2. subject lines are your first line of defense

if they don't open the email, you're dead in the water

current data/trends suggest something neutral, brief, and clear will get you the open. these shouldn't include question marks or emojis. make it look like it came from their manager or internal team. examples include:

be boring and you'll be less likely to hit their trash can. 🗑️



3. deliverability is more important than automation

↳if you scale to sending hundreds of emails a day with perfect messaging and brilliant targeting but hit spam- no amount of scale can save you. once you torch your domain, you're toast. and burnt toast at that. here's how to solve for this:

-create multiple domains and subdomains under your core email
-create multiple inboxes within those domains
-send dozens of emails per domain instead of hundreds
-spread them out over your multiple domains and inboxes
-automate and send throughout the day so as not to trigger spam

if that sounds complicated- it's not if you use a tool. there are a few of them out there but my friends at Mailforge - Cold Email Infrastructure 📈 have an excellent one that's veeeeery affordable. I'm talking a few bucks.



i'd rather spend a few $ on making sure my emails hit my buyer's inbox than miss my #. the roi on that spend could be the difference between p-club and a PIP 😅

I've been a writer for (*cough* I am NOT giving away my age like that, nice try 🤨) but in that amount of time, I've become pretty okay at it. Most of that growth came from doing all the wrong things first so...

Here are 4 ways to be a terrible copywriter. Do the opposite and maybe, just MAYBE, someday you can be an aggressively mediocre copywriter like me: 

1. Overwrite. 

Be super long-winded. Say words for the sake of saying them. Write twice as many characters as anyone would care to read. Fluff makes everything better, eh? Repeat yourself. Say the same thing over and over in a different way. Repetition is never obnoxious. Also, repeat yourself. 


2. NEVER write like people talk. 

"It is advisable to adopt a robotic tone. Human interaction is deemed unnecessary. Utilize ChatGPT for generating flawless content instantaneously. Such output will be universally appreciated from the initial presentation."

3. Being clever instead of clear.

Use lazy puns. Be so funny and so engaging that your reader loses the point of your message entirely. Who came here to learn? We only want to laugh. Reading for losers. 

Honestly, just make a TikTok.


4. Never porof read.

Peeple will know what your trying to say regardless of you're spelling and grammar. Who cares about a few silly misteaks!? Folks will really care about the message and NOT the fact that you don't know how to right it. 



While I'm not sure of the exact mechanics required to be an excellent copywriter, if you steer clear of these mistakes you'll probably be headed in the right direction. 

Take it from me, a preeetty good copywriter.
