Let's talk about being the RIGHT parent. Truth #2: Kids spell love T-I-M-E. With 4 kids at home, I've learned that what children truly crave. It's our undivided attention. I may be obvious...but when I get busy, I tend to forget. It's putting your phone down when they walk in the room. It's listening to their stories, even the long, confusing ones. It's being fully present instead of mentally checking your to-do list. As busy professionals, we often think providing for our families means working longer hours to give them more things. But children won't remember most of what we bought them. They'll remember the times we chose them over everything else. When you give a child your time, what you're really saying is: "You matter to me more than anything else right now." I know we all struggle with this at times with our kids. Any strategies ya'll have?

Your future self is begging you to start now. Truth 3/41: The best time to start investing was yesterday. The second best time? Today. $100 invested monthly starting at age 25 will likely outperform $300 monthly starting at 35. That's not opinion – it's math. We all know we should invest, just like we know we should eat healthy and exercise. But knowledge without action is worthless. Those "I'll start later" excuses? "I don't have enough to start" "I need to understand everything first" "I'll have more money later" They're silently stealing thousands from your future self. For the first decade, you won't see much happening. But then compound interest kicks in and things really take off. Don't be the person heading into their golden years without the gold.

This is spot on. I know it's tough for smaller campaigns to build out 5 versions of the same ad. So we at the creative shops need to offer (and educate) on those solutions. This will be what works moving forward. TV still has it's place in certain markets, but this is way and I've been thinking of ways to implement this at scale so it benefits everyone.

Paid social is an insatiable beast. On the Harris campaign, we constantly needed to create far more content than other channels to maintain performance. Between paid, creative, and analytics teams - and our incredible agency partners - we regularly turned one ad into five, ten, or more. If you’re running paid persuasion, that may feel daunting. Our Core Principles: 1️⃣ Everything that runs must test well. We had to create more than we needed to have winners after testing. 2️⃣ More is more. At *least* 5 social ads with the same core message should run simultaneously. 3️⃣ Shorter is better. We prioritized 4s–30s spots, with a sweet spot at 4–15s. 4️⃣ Social-first means built for social. Resized TV/CTV spots were a backup, not plan A. What Worked: We evaluated resized (C)TV ads, creator-style videos, and social-first videos and found that: ✅ Under 15s? Social-first videos drove the highest VCR. ✅ Longer than 15s? Creator-style videos won. ❌ Resized TV ads? Didn't break through. And before you say that VCR ≠ persuasion… that’s why we have core principle 1️⃣. How to Scale Content: Most organizations build one marquee spot (usually for TV). But for paid social, you need ten or more versions of that spot. You can pull from... ⏳ Principal time - super valuable, but hard to get 😎 Principal content - they're busy, but the material is available 🤳 Creators, surrogates, staff - anyone can be a messenger 🎧 Audio only - it happens! 👾 Animation - super polished or closer to DIY I went back through the archives of what we launched and pulled 20 prompts (with real, tested examples) you can use in your next paid social creative brainstorm. Check it out and drop me a line if you make any content from these prompts. 🔗 The link is in the comments. 🔗

You don’t get to keep all that money from that gig. If you are a freelancer, self-employed, a soloprenuer…Set aside 15-30% of that payment for the taxman.

I had 1 hour to create this. Here’s what I did: 1. No direction + limited time = minimalist design. 2. Kept copy super simple 3. Used tools like coloors.co for speed 4. Used extra time to make spicy. I’ve been doing this for long time. Speed, tried and true “tricks” are the name of the game.

Ain’t nobody coming to rescue you. Especially now with AI. Truth 1/41 of truths I’ve learned in my 41 years. You are responsible for your life. Taking full ownership. I know we can’t control our circumstances or our situations but we can control how we respond which can determine our outcomes. It’s an acceptance mindset shift. And then moving forward and not dwelling on what you cannot control.

I guess chatgtp did something new. I hate it here. Took a pause on the 100 days. Traveling and whatnot. But I do have a slew of things cued up. Will continue with day 16/100 tomorrow. And they’ll be a bit more intentional.

The secret creative weapon nobody talks about? Learning to say "this could be an email." Creative Truth 2: Meetings kill creativity. After 20 years in the creative field, I've come to recognize that our most innovative work emerges during states of deep, uninterrupted focus. Something incompatible with the modern zoom meeting culture. Here's what the data from my experience shows: Reaching a productive flow state takes about 20 minutes to establish - Each interruption completely resets that clock - Most meetings could be handled through emails or 5-minute PHONE calls - Even "brainstorming meetings" aren't always the productivity boosters we imagine them to be Block 2-3 hour sessions of uninterrupted work time. Then batch meetings into specific days or timeframes. Learn to say no to meetings that masquerade as progress.

A few more days in Austin after the Reeds with Campaigns & Elections. I had a great time and so awesome to catch up with everyone and meet new friends in the process. Now chilling with the fam for a few days then back at it! Until then…Ice cream!

I’ve been journaling since 2010 or so. It has been part of my dna ever since. It helps my mental and spiritual health. I write ideas, prayers, to-dos, dreams, goals, reflections, daily highlights. It’s one habit I will never give up and one day my kids and grandkids will read them when I’m gone. Just gotta work on my handwrittjng. 🤣

Where do ideas come from? "Everywhere and nowhere." After 18+ years as a creative, you CAN HAVE a structured approach to sparking creativity and good ideas. Here's my field-tested process for generating ideas that actually work: 1. STRUCTURED BRAINSTORMING - Designate a leader to guide the conversation - Assign someone to take detailed notes - Set clear objectives before starting - Keep sessions to 30-60 minutes max - Assign next steps with deadlines Pro tip: There are no bad ideas! The first 20 might be terrible, but they could spark something brilliant. 1. VISUAL MIND MAPPING Breaking free from linear thinking by starting with a core concept and branching out. This helps me see connections between seemingly unrelated concepts and discover unexpected directions. 2. REVERSE ENGINEERING When stuck, I flip perspectives: - What would make this project fail? - What's the opposite of what we're trying to achieve? - What would our competitors do? - What if we had unlimited resources? This counterintuitive approach often leads to breakthroughs. 1. VISUAL RESEARCH Creating themed Pinterest boards and collecting reference work that resonates with the brief triggers new conceptual directions. 2. THE INCUBATION PERIOD Sometimes stepping away is the most productive step. Going for a walk, taking a shower, or sleeping on it allows my subconscious to make unexpected connections. The key is balancing structured approaches with space for unexpected inspiration. My best ideas happen when I've done the groundwork but allow room for the magic to work. What does your creative process look like? I'd love to hear what works for you.

Quiet, slow mornings = better days Day 11/100

I used to think "more" was always the answer in my creative business: • More clients • More projects • More content • More courses But running a creative business while raising 4 kids and managing 5 acres taught me something different. After a brutally honest audit, I discovered I was spending 80% of my time on activities generating only 20% of my revenue. So I flipped the script. I ruthlessly focused ONLY on the high-value 20%, simplified operations, built simple systems, and eliminated distractions. The results were transformative: • My revenue tripled • I work fewer hours • I have more family time • My stress levels plummeted • My impact actually increased "If you don't master your time, your time will master you." - someone, somewhere What's one thing you could eliminate today to focus on your high-value 20%?

7

Old Pro Advice: you don't need dozens of clients to build a thriving creative practice. I've watched too many talented professionals burn out trying to juggle 20+ small clients - constantly chasing payments, dealing with endless revision cycles, and sacrificing their personal lives on the altar of "hustle" Let me share what actually works: 50+ SMALL CLIENTS ($500-1000 each) - Constant hustle - No financial stability - Endless onboarding - Administrative nightmares - Creative burnout 5 QUALITY CLIENTS ($15K-80K each annually) - Predictable revenue - Deeper strategic relationships - Higher quality deliverables - Better work/life balance - Sustainable growth The simple math: Five clients at even $20K each equals a six-figure business. And that's on the conservative end. Here's what I've learned: The decision-makers with substantial budgets aren't spending hours scrolling through social media. They're running serious operations and looking for reliable, strategic partners. Stop chasing every small fish in the sea. Focus your energy on landing a few whales instead.

7

The difference between good and great creative work? Trashing your first 20 ideas. After nearly two decades as a creative professional, I've discovered that true creativity isn't about that initial spark. It's about what happens after you've exhausted the obvious. Here's what I've learned: Ideas 1-10 are usually just silly garbage Ideas 11-20 are what everyone else thinks Ideas 21+ are where your brain starts working differently We've all been there: that uncomfortable moment when you feel you've exhausted your creative well. But what if that feeling of emptiness is the beginning of something truly original? In a world of tight deadlines and quick solutions, we rarely push ourselves beyond those first comfortable rounds of ideation. Yet that's precisely where mediocrity lives. The most innovative solutions emerge only when we have the discipline to reject the familiar and push ourselves a bit more.

What happens when a creative studio owner commits to 100 days of consistent video creation? I'm about to find out. THE MISSION: Creating and sharing content every day for 100 consecutive days. PERSONAL OBJECTIVES: - Push my creative boundaries beyond client work - Develop new skills through consistent practice - Open myself to unexpected opportunities and connections PROFESSIONAL GOALS: - Identify what resonates with my network (finding the signal) - Discover gaps and needs within our industry - Build a valuable content asset independent of my creative studio CONTENT PILLARS: 1. Insights on human creativity and unlocking potential 2. Lessons learned from running a creative agency 3. Balancing professional ambition with family priorities 4. My parallel journey into homesteading and self-sufficiency 5. Authentic moments that bring perspective and joy to our work This isn't merely a posting challenge—it's a structured experiment in professional development, audience building, and discovering new opportunities. I invite my professional network to follow along and contribute to the conversation. Your insights may well shape the direction of this journey. Day 2/100

Your biggest dream is being held hostage by one thing: your first step. I was reflecting on how the Israelites at the Jordan River had to take action before seeing results. The priests had to step into the rushing water first - then the miracle happened. This principle applies to everything meaningful in our lives: - That business you've been planning but haven't launched - That career pivot you keep postponing - That difficult conversation you need to initiate - That skill you need to develop We often wait for perfect conditions or divine intervention before moving forward. But what if the intervention comes after our commitment to begin? Whatever you're hesitating to start today, remember that action precedes blessing. Have genuine belief, then take that first step.

Networking can be awkward. Here are some tips that have worked for me when I attend conferences to start new relationships and grow my business.
