Storytelling and why it was important for Nala's Baby

Nala’s baby began when Casyo and Sasha were expecting their first bundle of joy.

Suddenly Sasha became very aware of what products she was putting on her skin, body and hair which led to concerns over what she’d soon be putting on her little one’s skin…

This led to an obsession with finding clean products.

She downloaded the ‘Think Dirty’ app, an app that allows you to scan the barcode of products which then gives you a run-down on the ingredients with a rating from 1 to 10 of how clean that product was.

Sadly, the realisation occurred that finding clean products to use on her baby wasn’t going to be an easy task.

The soon-to-be mother and father were then on a mission: create accessible and affordable, clean and baby-safe products!

Being out there, away from the usual office setting, and interacting directly with our customers was a refreshing change. It was amazing to share the story of SYPS and see the genuine surprise and delight on people’s faces as they discovered the great taste and benefits of our drink

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive; It was a reminder of why we do what we do. It's moments like these that fuel my passion for bringing better choices to consumers.

My concept of legacy, changed completely by one conversation I had!

Initially, I thought about legacy in tangible terms—how much I could pass down to my children and how my name might be remembered. However, a good friend of mine taught me that the true essence of a legacy isn't just about material assets or leaving my name etched somewhere. It's actually all about the impact I have on those around me big or small —my family, friends, team, partners and even strangers.

There's a powerful truth in the saying, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." 

This sentiment has become a guiding principle in how I approach my relationships and interactions. Every day presents a new opportunity to make a positive impact, whether through a small act of kindness, a supportive word, or simply by showing up authentically.

In sharing this, I hope to inspire you to think about your own legacy, beyond the conventional measures of success. After all, the moments we create with others and the feelings we leave behind are the truest indicators of a life well-lived. 

90% of you won’t know this but my entrepreneurial spirit started way back in Primary school!

While others were playing kiss chase or bull-dog I was creating my first side gig…

Buying sweets from Safeway and Netto (Does anyone still remember these stores lol) and selling them for profit during my break times!

This spark hit me again in University where myself and my peers found ourselves having to travel home (quite the journey) every couple of weeks to get a fresh trim!

Not the most efficient use of my time at all!

So I made a change - I created a mobile app that located the local barbers, groomers, hairdressers and beauty salons which resulted in more time studying whilst looking fresh - win-win ✔️

I should have kept it going really, since there are now very large and successful apps just like mine on the market.

‘Haircare that will keep my hair healthy despite how often I change it up as a performer’

Beyoncé, the global superstar and entrepreneur, ventures into the hair care industry with the launch of her brand, CÉCRED.

The revolutionary brand was launched on February 20th 2024, ‘borrowing some of our past and bringing it to the future.’

The strategic move not only diversifies her business portfolio but also positions her on a path that could potentially elevate her status to that of a billionaire.

I’ve previously spoken about why I believed this brand move by Beyoncé was genius including her brand power and loyal fanbase, the market gap and inclusivity, and the way the brand could expand further than just the haircare products.

But beyond that, this brand has excelled where many fall, authenticity.
Authenticity is another topic I’ve spoken about a lot, due to its significance in bringing an audience onboard an idea, concept and product!

Beyoncé talks about her mother and life as a child within the story of her brand - and nothing can get more personal than that!

‘It’s been my lifelong dream to create these hair products and bring some of my mother’s teachings to life. We started by prioritizing the needs of textured hair like mine and others who lack moisture and strength. It was important to honour past rituals while infusing our personal touch by adding advanced science to build new sacred rituals. The result was haircare defined by its performance, quality, and intention.’

As we've seen with other celebrity entrepreneurs who have successfully navigated the beauty industry, the combination of a strong personal brand with an innovative and inclusive product line that shines with authenticity is a powerful formula for success.

I was asked to give my thoughts on Jojo Siwa’s rebrand into her adulthood fame-era by Business Insider…

Jojo is currently facing a lot of online scrutiny from her fans after releasing a teaser to her new song ‘Karma’.

Jojo found fame at just 9 years old through Dance Moms, an American dancing show gaining millions of dedicated YouTube fans and has continued to grow on social since parting from the show. 

Siwa has experimented with making her look more grown-up for the past few years 

She's also become embroiled in scandals as she's approached adulthood, and more scrutiny over her content.

As Siwa transitions from a teen to a young woman, she faces the challenge of working out who exactly her audience is

Sadly, many children stars find it extremely difficult to transition into adulthood fame with only a few exceptions with the likes of Miley Cyrus!

Here’s what I had to say;

“Child stars often build a brand around their youthful persona, when they attempt to transition, this can create a disconnect between their established identity and their new, adult self. This shift can confuse the audience, leading to a struggle to maintain old fans while attracting new ones."

Reinventing Established Markets: The first scenario is where a brand aims to revolutionise a massive consumer market, one that has been long dominated by legacy players.

These are markets where a single brand or a small group of brands have maintained a near monopoly, controlling significant shelf space and consumer loyalty. 

Talent, with their fresh perspective and ability to connect deeply with audiences, can disrupt these spaces. 

They bring innovation and new narratives that can challenge the status quo, making room for new players and diversifying consumer choices.

Kim Kardashian's SKKY Partners: Lessons in Celebrity Venture Capital!

Kim Kardashian, has once again captured headlines, this time not for her social media presence or fashion ventures, but for her foray into the world of private equity. 

According to recent federal securities filings, SKKY Partners has struggled to secure funding, raising just a fraction of its $1 billion goal. With only $121 million in capital commitments.

A significant portion of the raised funds has been directed towards a minority investment in Truff.  While this investment may signal strategic foresight, questions linger about its ability to attract a broader range of investors.

Despite efforts to secure investments through rolling closes since March 2023, with no formal end date specified for the initial fundraising round, SKKY remains well below its targeted funding levels. Anonymous sources suggest the possibility of additional undisclosed investments, the firm's progress towards its fundraising objectives remains uncertain.

One of the key challenges for SKKY appears to be reconciling Kardashian's celebrity status with her role within the firm. While many anticipated that SKKY would focus on investing in consumer and media companies associated with Kardashian's personal brand, she has clarified that her role is primarily that of a traditional private equity adviser. This distinction raises questions about the alignment between SKKY's investment strategy and Kardashian's public persona.

Nevertheless, Kardashian has assembled a strong team for SKKY, including high-profile hires like former Apple retail boss Angela Ahrendts, appointed as the firm's senior operating adviser.
