I’m David. I’m driven by faith and committed to purpose. My work is simple: build and invest in consumer brands that make lives better and leave a positive legacy.

For over a decade, I’ve worked across CPG, entertainment, and media with global players like Viacom, Nike, MTV, Nickelodeon, Sony Pictures, Boots, and Warner Music.

Beyond angel investing, I advise founders and corporations on building products that truly serve people, and I speak on faith, entrepreneurship, and brand leadership with a focus on real-world impact and integrity.

The £300M curry house, that has joined the LVMH family.

Okay, technically Dishoom is more than a curry house.

If you’ve been, you know. 

The smell of masala. The buzz of the room. The playlist that makes you want to stay all afternoon. The queue outside no matter the weather.

Founders Shamil Thakrar and Kavi Thakrar built a restaurant brand that customers love.

This week, L Catterton (backed by LVMH) took a minority stake, valuing Dishoom at £300M.

Luxury is shifting. It’s no longer about a logo, it’s about the moments you can’t buy anywhere else.

Dishoom sells:
🥘Nostalgia and spice
🥘Long Sunday brunches that turn into dinners
🥘The kind of magic you can’t take away in a paper bag

And now they’re going global (US launch in 2026), with talk of hotels and new concepts on the horizon.

The lesson?

When you build something people feel in their bones, you’re no longer competing on price, location, or even product.

You’re competing on love.

And that’s where the real value is.

Canva was rejected by investors 100 times, now it’s worth $26B!

Before Canva, Melanie Perkins was running Fusion Books, a drag-and-drop tool she launched in 2007 to help schools design their yearbooks.

It became Australia’s largest yearbook supplier.

That success gave her a bigger vision: Make design accessible to everyone, not just schools.


She pitched the Canva idea to investors, again and again. Over 100 times, the answer was no.

Most people would have quit. Melanie didn’t.

She refined the pitch, kept knocking on doors, and chased the right “yes” until she found it.

That “yes” came from Bill Tai. It opened doors, sparked introductions, and brought Cameron Adams on board as co-founder.

With the team complete, Canva launched in 2013 to a waitlist of 50,000 people.

Fast forward to 2025:
🖌️ 220M+ users in 190 countries
🖌️ 30B+ designs created
🖌️ $1B in free products to schools & nonprofits
🖌️ Over $3b in yearly revenue
🖌️ Valuation over $26B, making it one of the world’s most valuable private tech companies
🖌️ Competing with Microsoft & Google through Canva Docs, Presentations, Whiteboards, and AI tools like Magic Write.

With all these achievements, Canva has now become the world’s top female-led startup.

The lesson? A “no” doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea. It might just mean you haven’t found the right believer yet.

But you’ll never find it if you stop after the first “no.”

With a net worth of $1.3 billion according to Bloomberg Billionaire Index, Federer has joined the ultra-exclusive club of athlete billionaires alongside Michael Jordan ($3.5 billion) and Tiger Woods ($1.36 billion).

But here's the kicker: his $130.6 million in prize money over 24 years makes up just a fraction of his wealth.

The real story? A casual shoe purchase by his wife that turned into a $500 million windfall.

This is how the Swiss maestro built one of the most sophisticated business empires in sports history.

Is LVMH losing its golden touch?

Marc Jacobs once the crown jewel of American fashion, is now reportedly on the chopping block.

Selling off a brand that helped define LVMH’s expansion into U.S. fashion raises an uncomfortable question:

Is the world’s most powerful luxury group struggling to manage relevance across generations?

LVMH has mastered the art of acquisition. 

But recent exits, Off-White, Stella McCartney, The Donna Karan Company, LLC., and now potentially Marc Jacobs, suggest something deeper:

 👉🏾 A shift from bold innovation to brand housekeeping.
 👉🏾 A preference for predictable wins over cultural bets.

Yes, they’ll say “it no longer fits the strategy.”

But what is the strategy?

Can LVMH still build on the brand's legacy it acquires or turn around icons?

Or has the age of fashion empires given way to a more agile, influence-led future?

Marc Jacobs may fetch $1B. 

But if LVMH is quietly exiting the stage of cultural brand-building, that price could be a bargain for whoever gets to write the next chapter.

Tesla are now selling burgers 🤯

...and turning supercharger stations into playgrounds.

Last month, Tesla opened the Tesla Diner & Drive-In in West Hollywood.

 People literally lined up for hours.

Not just for the burgers. They wanted to be a part of the whole experience:

✔️Order food straight from your Tesla’s touchscreen.
✔️Get it in a Cybertruck-shaped box.
✔️Delivered by roller-skating carhops (or even the Optimus robot).
✔️While watching old-school movies on a giant outdoor screen.

It sounds wild, but we have seen this playbook with many brands before:

🔘Gucci, with Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura (Michelin-starred restaurant), Gucci Garden (art exhibition space), and fashion-gaming collabs on Roblox

🔘Glossier, Inc., with Instagrammable flagship stores and Glossier Café

🔘Ralph Lauren, with Ralph’s Coffee, The Polo Bar, and a full range of home, fragrance, and lifestyle extensions

These brands are selling the vibe, the lifestyle, the experience.

Phlur was dead.

this is the founding team behind Breath Death, a new breath freshener brand launching with something called "Crystal Breth."

The playbook is getting predictable:
• Assemble maximum influencers (check)
• Create artificial scarcity through hype (check)
• Target Gen Z with "disruptive" branding (check)
• Solve a problem that's already solved (check)

But here's the uncomfortable truth: This might actually work.

Not because the product is revolutionary.

But because they've cracked the code on something traditional CPG brands are still fumbling with:

→ Community-first distribution - They don't need Walmart shelves when they have 100M+ combined followers
→ Authentic endorsement - When your favorite creator uses it, it hits different than a TV commercial
→ Cultural relevance - They're selling identity, not just fresh breath

The real innovation is the business model.

While legacy brands spend millions on focus groups and retail partnerships, these creators just... asked their audience what they wanted and delivered it in 6 months.

The question isn't whether Breath Death will succeed.

The question is: When will traditional brands stop underestimating the speed and scale of creator-led commerce?

The skeptics calling this "just hype" are missing the forest for the trees. 

The hype IS the product. 
The community IS the distribution. 
The creators ARE the brand.

This is modern commerce. And it's eating the old playbook alive.

The internet’s divided.

Some are calling it genius. Others are calling it noise.

I love getting messages like this. It reminds me why I do what I do.

When we started SYPS, the goal was to help people cut down on sugar, feel better in their own skin, and make small changes that add up in their lives.

It might not seem like a big deal to some, but for the person who swaps a can of soda for SYPS every day, that’s less sugar, more energy, and a healthier life over time. 

That’s impact.

And for me, that’s what building products is really about. 

Not the headlines or the hype. But the quiet ways you can change someone’s day, and maybe even their future.

So if you’re building something right now, ask yourself: how will this actually make someone’s life better? 

Because that’s the part that keeps you going when everything else gets tough.
